What a great message. I wish all characters were this nice. Does anyone know what this is from?

this is Joff Baratheon, from Game of Trones. He’s actually one of the only truly likeable characters in the series - he gets onto the throne way too young but makes a really good go of being a fair and kind ruler. He has a relationship with a girl earlier that’s not this one but due to circumstances that are spoilers, they have to split up and he deal with it in a really mature inspiring way that you don’t get to see much in TV shows these days.  Here he is at his wedding to this new girl, Maegery, and it’s one of the most beautiful episodes of the show so far, actually.

“The best thing about writing fiction is that moment where the story catches fire and comes to life on the page, and suddenly it all makes sense and you know what it’s about and why you’re doing it and what these people are saying and doing, and you get to feel like both the creator and the audience. Everything is suddenly both obvious and surprising… and it’s magic and wonderful and strange.”

GeekGirlCon

This weekend I had the pleasure of going to GeekGirlCon in Seattle with my editor (and one of my best friends). We came, we saw, we geeked out.

So, first and foremost:

Rhapsody bookmarks were in the swag bags! So awesome to be a part of it (even a small part).

Even though I was on kind of a mission to A) introduce new readers to Rhapsody (which maybe was a fail… I am so bad at marketing, seriously) and B) decide if I might want to expo myself next year (verdict: a resounding yes from my editor, a resounding ‘maybe’ from me, which I’m sure she’ll take as ‘close enough’)- what really ended up happening was a lot of wandering, a couple panels, and tons of fun. If you’re in the Seattle area I highly recommend the con.

I didn’t get many pictures, which is unfortunate because there were so many amazing cosplayers, but I did end up buying more stuff than was probably necessary (except not. It was all totally necessary). Like this little cutie:

I plan to put her on my computer monitor at work.

And I got this button that made me almost die laughing— what a beautiful attitude to have, and an awesome homage to Dr Who:

And my favorite purchase of the con? Definitely this gorgeous sailor moon print:

by none other than B. Fuerst. Look at her tumblr you guys. No seriously, look at it.Such beautiful work, and she was really lovely in person. She even signed my print!

And then I misled her because I thought it was a Crystal week… ooops… in my defense, it’s been a really long week and it feels like it’s been two. But apologies to the group that was standing around while I was frantically talking about how much I wanted to see Sailor V.

If you weren’t at the con this weekend (I was only around for Saturday, but it’s still going on today!), you can still take advantage of the deal inside the swag bags. Prelude is currently only 99 cents and Sonata is 1/2 price right now (1.49), making them both a steal. And I’ve been informed that they’re suitably geeky with some (subtle) references to different shows and some (not as subtle) references to mythology and legends.

Amaranth Update

Remember my little potato quality pictures of my amaranth seedlings?  The plant is HUGE now. And so pretty. Excuse the much needed paint job of the surroundings and look at my Lady in all her glory:

These blooms are enormous…

And I mean enormous.

It’s a pretty cool looking plant, actually. I’m sad it’s not perennial… I guess I’ll just have to plant a new one next year.

Caprice Update

Right now I’m working on the finishing revisions for Caprice. The pacing is the part I’m trying to get right, and so far I’m struggling with it. I have a lot of information to convey but not a lot of patience for dialogue heavy explanations. At least not without some other stuff to help balance it out.

So I’m having trouble with it. I start to go down one path, and it inevitably leads me into reading what I’ve written and making this face:

On the plus side, I’m super happy with the last scene of book 3, so I have that going for me.
