I love to create imaginary worlds, whether they're alternate universes ruled by unpredictable magic, or entire alien civilisations hidden beneath the sea.

My books and stories:

*A Mer-Tale (ShellBeWrite) A novella. A Mermaid with the power to transform between Mer and human form confronts her family's lifelong enemy and finds herself in terrifyingly unfamiliar waters.

*Brave's Journey (IFWG Publishing) Novel - A surprisingly quirky fantasy adventure for voracious readers and inquisitive minds. Discover a place where the nature of power is within the power of nature. Brave’s Journey escapes the ordinary. Shortlisted for the Storylines Tom Fitzgibbon Award 2014. Published in 2015.

*Twisty Christmas Tales (Phantom Feather Press), short story: 'I

I've no idea where this idea will go but I'm enjoying writing it and investigating different points of view. The story is based in London and I'm not even sure yet whether it is a childrens/YA story or an adult one??? Time will tell!
I'm also working on a futuristic dystopian fantasy in a world where most of the people can't hear. This one has been put aside for a wee bit while I try to work out where it is going!(less)

However, when I trace back my thoughts I can see that I'm being influenced by what I'm reading, movies I've watched, newspaper articles and my own life. I often start with just a name or two and work from there. Sometimes I force myself to be inspired to write, because if you just sit around waiting to be inspired nothing gets done!(less)

I’ve just read John Green’s stunning book The Fault in Our Stars and am now ensconced in Paper Towns. In summary, I’d just like to say Wow!

I was really sceptical about TheFioS because I hate all that movie/teen/cancertragicusedtoemote stuff (having had a visit to cancerville myself) BUT, hear this all you doubters… this is a great book that must be imbibed immediately.

Lovely characters and a well built world. By the time Lutapolii had his new family settled I was sold on this story and invested in how he’d create a home in the south. Particularly liked the section with the whale. Lots of wonderful detail and a dra ...more

Willa Cather
“Whatever we had missed, we possessed together the precious, the incommunicable past.”
Willa Cather, My Ántonia

Willa Cather
“I was something that lay under the sun and felt it, like the pumpkins, and I did not want to be anything more. I was entirely happy. Perhaps we feel like that when we die and become a part of something entire, whether it is sun and air, or goodness and knowledge. At any rate, that is happiness; to be dissolved into something complete and great. When it comes to one, it comes as naturally as sleep.”
Willa Cather, My Ántonia

Carrie Anne Noble
“Infatuation is easy to cure, if that is his problem. A little dandelion root, a sprig of hare-foot plant, a shaving of nutmeg, and a drop of moonrose nectar mixed into a cup of chamomile. True love is another story, I’m afraid. There is no cure for true love.”
Carrie Anne Noble, The Mermaid's Sister

David Walliams
“In Britain, a cup of tea is the answer to every problem.
Fallen off your bicycle? Nice cup of tea.
Your house has been destroyed by a meteorite? Nice cup of tea and a biscuit.
Your entire family has been eaten by a Tyrannosaurus Rex that has travelled through a space/time portal? Nice cup of tea and a piece of cake. Possibly a savoury option would be welcome here too, for example a Scotch egg or a sausage roll.”
David Walliams, Mr Stink

George R.R. Martin
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.”
George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons
