Slow Light Photography

In REDSHIFT RENDEZVOUS, aboard the REDSHIFT hyperspace craft, light travels at ten meters per second. Now, researchers have been able to photograph a trillion frames per second, so they can watch light travel slowly into a liquid-filled pop bottle. It's pretty amazing video, and they postulate how this could be used to see around corners. TED Talk on YouTube.

New Artwork for DEATH TOLLS Purchased

Here's another new piece of artwork to use in re-issuing DEATH TOLLS, which is set on a partially terraformed Mars. The artist is Charlie Pharis and the piece is called "Hard Crash." ReAnimus Press will publish it in 2016 or 2017. It was originally published in 1987 by Ace Books, in 1988 in Italy, and in 1996 in Russia..

Charlie Pharis is a 2D and 3D artist from Middlesbrough, England. He is currently lead artist for Impeller Studios but from time to time he works on interesting new projects, such as this painting which shows a dramatic view of the commercial spacecraft crashing on Mars. You can see more of his work at http://www.charliepharis.com/

Reprint Deal Signed with ReAnimus Press

I've signed a new contract with ReAnimus Press to reprint my backlist during 2016 and 2017.

The novels include SCAPESCOPE, MEMORY BLANK, DEATH TOLLS, DEEP QUARRY, REDSHIFT RENDEZVOUS, MANHATTAN TRANSFER, REUNION ON NEVEREND, and RECKONING INFINITY.  The collection ALL FOR NAUGHT includes a "Naught for Hire", a novella from ANALOG, and "Naught Again", a novelette from ANALOG. At least a couple of the novels have not been available in paper for twenty years.

The new editions will be in trade paperback, as well as all the common e-book formats and markets, and will feature some content cleanup, and a lack of DRM on all titles, to be as friendly as possible to readers. I'll announce more about the schedule here and on my Facebook page and on my Twitter feed.

Reprint Update

For a time, John E. Stith novels are going to be more difficult to buy.

I've ended my reprint contract with Wildside Press, and I plan to pull my titles from Amazon Kindle this month. This is in preparation for moving to a new press with all new covers, some content cleanup, and a lack of DRM on all titles, to be as friendly as possible to readers. Eventually all my novels will be back in print. I'll announce more about the schedule here and on my Facebook page and on my Twitter feed.

New Cover for ALL FOR NAUGHT

Here's the new cover for ALL FOR NAUGHT done by Kavin King. Wildside Press should have their editions updated by late August. The Amazon Kindle version is live now.

All for Naught by John E. Stith

For those wondering about the status of NAUGHT FOR HIRE, the planned webisode series, the producer and co-writer, Jeffrey Berman, has been consumed by a series of work and personal issues and now finally feels he'll be able to get back to the project this month.

New Cover Art for Reckoning Infinity Purchased

Here's more artwork for a planned book cover update. This one is "Off the Shore" by Jorge Abalo Budczinski, for use with RECKONING INFINITY, which is set in a bio-engineered environment that's part machinery and part biological.

Jorge Abalo Budczinski is a self-taught artist who has been making art for as long as he can remember. He began working in digital art in the 1990s, and did comic illustration, design (Adobe CS), 3D modeling (3ds max, Terragen, Bryce, Poser), and flame fractals (Apophysis) before being introduced to Mandelbulb 3D in 2011. This piece is done with Mandelbulb 3D and is essentially the 3D representation of a complex series of equations, a fairly new capability brought to us by our friendly computers.

His work can be found at http://www.fractal-world.eu and http://batjorge.deviantart.com/.
