LE FAY - Spring Sale 2018

The annual spring sale is here! That means all my books are discounted for a limited time on Amazon (US and UK). This sale is for 5/24-5/30.

Since the release of HENGE, each year, I've been featuring an Arthurian lady for the promo art. This year I'm featuring Guinevere, who rightfully takes a good amount of spotlight in SPEAR! Gwen is elegant in a simple, classy way and I love drawing her. For her, I chose lily-of-the-valley, which is a classic flower, just like her.

Check out the sale here! (If you haven't read the LE FAY series yet, you might find a nice surprise in there, which will be there until Monday.) Hope you snag a book or two to read for the weekend and the summer!

Btw, did you see the royal wedding? Perhaps it was like the one in SPEAR. (Who gets married? You'll have to read SPEAR to find out!)

Enjoy the sale! One month until Summer, yay!

Yours,

SPEAR - Art: Greatness is Immortal

Here's the poster art for SPEAR (Le Fay series, 4)

What the quote means for Morgan le Fay: If you do your best, your greatness itself is immortal and the result of your actions can live on through time. The quote for SPEAR means a lot to me right now as I contemplate what I want to create longterm.

Here are previous LE FAY quote posters:

News Week - 5/1/18

Hope spring is treating everyone well! I'm so glad it's May. I went to see Stravinsky's Persephone last week, and it featured some neat sets and flying, spooky puppets. It was artistic and had a strong springtime theme to it.

Book Happenings:

--This week my latest novel is going to an editor for more feedback. The initial dev edit went very well and it looks to be in strong shape. So far it looks like this one will be out next year. I will post some more information soon.

I've been working on the revision for it, and revising in the early stages is certainly a lot of fun. I love discovering new, deeper layers to my characters that changes the story in a good way. During revision is when I start to develop memories of the characters past, and understanding events they've gone through.

--My picture book will also go through another line edit this month. (Last line edit! Yay.)

--Tomorrow I will post an art piece from SPEAR

Have a great week!

News Week - 4/16/18

I hope everyone had a good weekend! I got to see some cool art stuff this weekend.

First, I went to Etsuko Ichikawa's Vitrified exhibit, featuring uranium themed artwork:

The glass orbs made with uranium glass were very mesmerizing to look at in person. The green parts looked like they were glowing brightly. It's a great exhibit to go to if you're looking for some dystopian inspiration.

After that, we saw Emergence. The ballet inspired by hive mentality. Some really nice new works showed before it: Little Mortal Jump, and Raku. Raku reminded me of a Kurosawa film so I really enjoyed the music and visuals.

Update: Also here's a shot from the Hive Society party, the backstage party for Emergence:

I'm constantly amazed by all the talented artists in the world. Lately I've been looking through my collection of graphic novels, admiring the line work done with real ink. This spring, I'm dreaming of creating more visual stories.

Videogames - GDC 2018

Last month was busy with work and travel! I also have two dev edits back from editors, with two more projects being reviewed this month. I'm also brewing up a new story production and delivery plan.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to GDC (Game Dev Conference) in San Fran with my fantastic TLD coworkers!

Some highlights:

The use of AI in Final Fantasy XV seemed very futuristic and fascinating for the future of narratives in virtual worlds. I began to think about the potential of AI. I like the idea of creating a "DNA" for a character and letting them write their own story and dialogue.
Inclusivity and diversity in Dream Daddy.
The narrative and environment for Monument Valley. Love seeing art and narrative go hand-in-hand.

This year it seemed creators were reaching deeper to connect with their audience. It was a privilege to go to GDC and be a part of the ever-evolving world of art and story.

LE FAY - Meet Isolde!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! To celebrate, I will introduce you to Isolde Anguish, one of Morgan le Fay's friends in the LE FAY series. Isolde is Irish, and my audiobook narrator did a nice job with her accent in the audiobook versions.

In the legends, Isolde is an Irish princess. In my version, she is a knight gifted with wind magic.

Here's my drawing of Isolde with her hair down. (She normally wears a pony tail.)

Meet Isolde!

Here's a brief excerpt featuring Isolde in SPEAR:

A Luminary comes at me with a sword made of ice in his hand. I freeze in shock. Something whistles through the air. It’s made of metal, and it hits the man in the neck. He falls face down, his ice sword shattering across the ground. The dagger in his neck is something I recognize from Arthur’s Round. An aerodagger. I look up in the direction from where it came.A female figure wearing a Black Knight uniform stands atop a building, holding a large glider. She drops from the building and swoops down, sailing over us. I recognize the glider. I’ve seen it in my childhood while I was on the run with my mother in the woods more than ten years ago. It’s used in the military by wind users.More aerodaggers rain down from above. The Luminaries break into startled cries. Some form an ice shield over their heads. The glider is about to hurtle into a building. I gasp before it turns away seconds before impact, controlled by wind magic.Someone conjures an icicle and shoots it at the glider. The dagger of ice hits the wing, and the glider wobbles before it swerves downward. As it descends, I see the brightness of auburn hair—Isolde has been controlling it.

News Week - 03/05/18

I got to ride a float plane for the first time last week!

Here are some shots. A video of my approach to Seattle from the co-pilot seat can also be seen on my Instagram:

I also went on a ghost walk in Victoria. Ghosts and graffiti are a good combo:

I currently have 3 books being edited. In the meantime, I'm polishing a new sci-fi and drafting a sci-fi horror in the meantime. Finally I got my new computer and iPad Pro set up for all my artwork. Stay tuned for another update tomorrow, I have another new thing to share with you!
