Trip - Joshua Tree National Park
My husband and I went to Joshua Tree National Park for a 24 hour camping trip. We were in CA for a wedding and thought it'd be a good chance to finally check out the park we've always wanted to go to.
We hiked along a trail. The temperature was perfect and the day was sunny. The desert was beautiful with many different and uniquely shaped foliage and colorful flowers in yellow and purple hues. We saw a squirrel, lizard, quail, and a jack rabbit.
For dinner we had wine and campfire roasted hot dogs. For dessert, s'mores!
What we didn't expect? Wind! It was very windy so we unfortunately couldn't do the stargazing we wanted to do. The stars were in fact bright and beautiful, but we were unable to stay out long. We were hoping to be able to lie out to gaze at the stars and keep the top off our tent... but with the wind, the top had to be secure. Perhaps next time when there's less wind? Is there a day that's not windy in the park? I don't know a lot about the desert.

Books - Indie Book Expo
I went to the April Book Expo hosted by Hugo House. There were tons of tables full of amazing indie publishers, books, and magazines. I was struck by how many of the books had very unique and fun bindings that I don't typically see in regular stores. Picking up a book was like an art experience because some of the covers were so mysterious and cool and had no text on the back. I saw translucent paper bindings, foldout contraptions, and bible-like bindings with gilded edges. It was like walking into a treasure trove and I wish I brought more cash to buy tons of books.
Some fun items I picked up visiting tables:
It made me inspired to seek more indie books and also create limited indie editions of my books with special bindings. If there's an indie book expo near you, I highly recommend checking it out!

Le Fay Series - Review Copy Policy
Now that SWORD has been out for a few months, it's time to refresh the review copy policy for the Le Fay Series.
--For the third book in the Le Fay Series there will not be an open review query up where anybody can sign up for it and get a copy. (HENGE may still be up for open review queries.) You can still get the free review copy of SWORD or Book 3 by querying me if you have adhered to the policy.
--I prefer to send the books to those who are reliable and genuinely interested. Le Fay book 3 review copies will only be sent to those who have reviewed SWORD on Amazon and show a genuine interest in the series with 4 stars and up.
Book 3 is scheduled for this fall. In the meantime, I will continue to post artwork and photos this spring.
Stay tuned for book 3 announcement this summer!

Video Game - Oculus VR: Farlands
What a trip! The eighth game I worked on has shipped: Farlands! I worked as an artist on this project from Oculus VR and it was so fun to roam in virtual reality to check out what I created. I've never seen my own art in this kind of dimension before and it's truly an honor to have played a small part in this. I feel like this is one of those rare things where one day when I'm a grandma, I can tell my grandkids about "back when virtual reality was just starting..."
I hope everyone who gives it a try will enjoy their adventure in virtual reality! It's a real trip and I believe virtual reality is going to change the world.

Le Fay Series - Art: Vivian and Waterlilies
Every spring I draw one of the Arthurian ladies with flowers that suits her character. Last year I drew Morgan le Fay with roses.
This year I drew Vivian with waterlilies!
Vivian is based on the Lady of the Lake. I immediately thought of lilies for her. The flowers are graceful with a mysterious quality. The lake plays a key part in SWORD so it seemed appropriate to feature it this year.
Who will I draw next year? Stay tuned...
And don't forget, the mega Spring Sale is still on!

News Week - 03/15/16
If you're in Seattle, be sure to check out the Indie Game Revolution exhibit! I'm so happy to see indie games celebrated.
I'm very interested in creating an indie game again. I've got a new design that I'm stoked about. First, I must gather a small team to make this a reality.
In other game-related news, my cousin-in-law was in town for a visit so I took him to the Oculus office to check out VR! I love seeing someone experience virtual reality for the first time. It truly is mind boggling, like being inside a dream.
Visual multimedia experiences aren't limited to games. There are also neat installations, such as the ones I saw at the Paradox of Place exhibit which explores Korean artists exploring paradoxes in art and society. In this shot I am in front of a mirror that crackles:
My favorite was Noh Suntag's photography of a strange and mysterious ball placed in the middle of a field. It's apparently a radome placed by the US military without announcement.
Hope you enjoyed the post! More Le Fay goods coming later this week and next.
