News Week - 06/06/16
Great news! Both CLAN and HENGE are up for audiobook production.
I'm currently going through auditions and am hoping to find the perfect narrator for each book. I'm overwhelmed with the amount of talented actors and it's going to be difficult to choose one.
Questions for readers:
--What would your ideal narrator for CLAN sound like?
--What would your ideal narrator for HENGE sound like?
Here are my audition calls:
CLAN:
Audition Notes: The narration of the book should be neutral and articulate, while the dialogue brings the characters to life in an otherwise bleak setting. Particularly, The three main characters should have distinct tones so listeners can easily tell them apart. In the story, the three boys are clones of one person, but they have different personalities.
Characters described below:
Twain: a shy and passive young adult male. He should sound gentle and reasonable, his tone softer than the others. He should also sound serious with a flatter tone.
Chad: an aggressive young adult male. His tone should be louder and unfriendly compared to the others.
Buster: A young adult male who is sarcastic and lively. His tone should be more vivid and lighthearted than the others.
HENGE:
Audition Notes: The book HENGE is narrated by the protagonist named Morgan: She is a teen British female with an authoritative, strong, bold, fierce, medium pitched voice--not too high or soft. She should be able to execute strong emotional scenes.
Notes for secondary main character, Merlin: he is a young adult with a British accent. He has a calming, gentle, polite, and reasonable tone.
What do you guys think? Exciting times!

News Week - 05/31/16
I completed the first draft of a brand new novel! This story is quite different from my other books that are currently out. I've dreamt of it for 12 years, waiting until I was ready to write it. During this month, I began the first draft and completed it. This is my first novel for adults. It's yet unknown what the publishing avenue for this is, but estimate it to be out within a couple years.

News Week - 05/24/16
I've got a brand new notebook for jotting down plans for the next 1.5 years of Le Fay! It's hard to believe I'm at the halfway point in the series.--Production: The third book is in fact nearing the end of revision and is about to be sent out for line edits.
--Promo: SWORD promo will continue into the summer. Sometime in the summer, you'll also see the description and new cover reveal for book 3!
--Drafting: I'm also drafting a new novel right now. I'm hoping to get this to my agent this summer. It's very different from my other novels that are currently out and I can't wait to share it.
--Backlog: two picture books, one graphic novel. I'll resume these when I have some openings in my schedule. Hopefully once I get Le Fay art done.
--Freelance: I have a couple spots open for June if anyone'd like some art by me.

Le Fay Series - Research Travel: Chalice Well
Today I am sharing photos from my trip to Chalice Well. I had to stop here for my Le Fay series research! Like the neighboring Glastonbury Tor, this garden is also a associated with Avalon. the name Avalon means a place where apples grow. Indeed, apples do grow here. In one legend, Morgan le Fay is a healer and she heals Arthur in Avalon. Chalice Well carries the myth that the natural spring water has healing powers. There is a legend that the chalice was thrown into the spring and made the water red. People from around the globe come to this garden in hopes of healing. (Or some, like me, to research and nerd out!)
The garden is also very beautiful with many colorful flowers. It's a peaceful, quiet place. I reflected some of the mystery and serenity into the Avalon in SWORD. Wish we had something like this in Seattle!
Here's the coppery red water flowing. Visitors bring empty bottles to drink the water with. The water has a slight coppery taste:
I bought a bunch of apples to snack on. Real Avalon apples! I even washed 'em in the spring. They were tasty.

Here's the lid of the famous well. The symbol is very famous and represents Avalon. I love the design. I wore a necklace with this symbol to the SWORD book release party.

Sword Release Party
Here are photos from the SWORD release party last fall! I wore a red dress since it has significance in the story. I also wore my Chalice Well necklace from Britain. (I will post about my trip to Chalice Well soon!) Another theme in SWORD is Avalon, where red apples grow, so I created desserts and drinks using apple.

Trip - Maui and Oahu 2016
Joey and I just got back from Hawaii for our friend's beautiful wedding in Oahu. We had to stop by our favorite island first though: Maui!
I'm proud to say I participated in 5 yoga classes during my vacation! It was a wonderful way to start the day. It is now a quarter of 2016 and I've stuck with my yoga goals:
Our favorite thing to do... lounge in the cabana:
Yes, I'm working on something besides the Le Fay series and picture book! I'm taking notes for a book set in the tropics:

Namaste! Zen life is what I want:
This farm in Maui is everything my dream is made of. Ducks are running free and enjoying their swim in a large pond. And the mountains! Man. I want this life.
My first Hawaiian shaved ice! Real mango and coconut syrup, macadamia nut bottom, and mochi toppings!
Poolside joy. We enjoyed this boutique resort with serene settings:

Morning kayaking! Refreshing to go against the waves. LOVE IT!!!
Joey and I returned to Seattle and continued to dream of Maui. I love the way the wind rustles through the leaves. The cricket songs at night and the bird songs during the day. The balmy breeze, always comforting. My skin and hair rejoiced in the weather. I love the simplicity of island life and of course, being surrounded by paradise.
I'm very thankful for this year so far. I've become closer to my heart, learning to live gently, and go with the flow.

Charity - Bravery and Kindness Cake!
I love Born This Way Foundation which focuses on empowering young people. During the holiday week in December, royalties from the Le Fay series were donated to the foundation. I recently participated in their bravery and kindness cake contest. My Chamomile Thyme Cake is a semi-finalist in both recipe and decoration!

Thyme - knights used to carry thyme to inspire bravery as they embarked on their journey.
Chamomile - I believe chamomile is the kindest herb. It promotes peace and healing.

Bravery and kindness are both important qualities to me which I incorporate in both my life and my novels. I wish the kindness cake project much success!

Le Fay Series - Research Travel: Glastonbury Tor
Do you know what place is the number one potential candidate for Avalon--the famous mystical island? It's Glastonbury! It's believed the hill was Avalon. Monks claimed to have found remains of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere there. I had to visit Glastonbury for my Le Fay research. Although the place is nothing like the Avalon I ended up creating for SWORD, it was interesting to see a real life place that's considered sacred.
The tor certainly has a majestic and mystical feel. Especially since you have to climb a steep hill to get to it! The weather was very windy.
The architecture inspired the look of my modern Camelot.
Some info about the Tor:
Adorable town with a hippie vibe full of neat shops.
