Kelsey Bryant is a homeschool graduate from Central Texas. Books have been a part of her family for generations. Ever since she can remember, Kelsey has been writing stories and dreaming of the magical moment when her books would join the ranks.

She draws inspiration from the Greatest Story Ever Told, which culminates in the Messiah’s salvation offered to every person. Her life would be meaningless without her relationship with Yeshua (Jesus). She’s also inspired by the classics, especially the works of her favorite authors Jane Austen, Elizabeth Goudge, L. M. Montgomery, Elizabeth Gaskell, and Louisa May Alcott. She loves history and even her contemporary fiction has a historical bent.

Family Reunion (Six Cousins, Book 1) is her debut nove

This series is called the Vintage Jane Austen. Six authors are retelling Jane Austen's six novels in 1930s America. I am writing the Sense and Sensibility story, Suit and Suitability, which is scheduled to be published in April. It really is a lot of fun! Visit vintagejaneausten.com for more details. :) (less)

I admire Elinor's strength and courage in the face of tough family circumstances, and I identify with her calm rationality. Although Edward isn't a very popular hero, I like him a lot. Elinor sees something in him, after all! But I have a soft spot for shy, quiet, unpretentious people, and I also think he acted with honor and courage when he could have given in.(less)

The Promise of Acorns Audiobook

This is a quick note to say that, just in time for Thanksgiving, The Promise of Acorns is now available as an audiobook! I've been spreading the word on other media and almost forgot to mention it on my blog. I'm grateful to J. Grace Pennington and her incredible narration for bringing my Thanksgiving novella to Audible listeners.

I have mixed feelings about this book, but my overall impression is of the beauty and power of the writing. Emily Lawless's descriptive style immersed me fully into the world of nineteenth-century Inishmaan, from the barren, rocky gray landscape to t ...more

“That’s just it. She’s in the state of mind that will think the worst of everybody,” Emma said. “And basically, that’s exactly what we’re trying to reverse. It’s a vicious cycle.”

“God does the reversing.” It was sudden, I hadn’t thought of it that way before, but after it left my lips it brought me a load of comfort.

Emma paused what she was doing and looked at me. “You know, that’s exactly right. Only God can change a heart. I suppose we can help, but it has to be all up to Him.”

“Marion stared into his face. “Thank you.” She blinked back sudden tears. “Mr. Bradley, you’re swell. You’ve helped my family so much, and I never appreciated it before.”
“Thank you.” Mr. Bradley returned her look, intensely. “I care for all of you. You’re some of the best people I’ve ever known.”
Marion smiled and mumbled, “Mr. Sour-face.”
“What was that?”
“Nothing!” She grinned wider.
He smiled back. It was a nice smile.”
Kelsey Bryant, Suit and Suitability

“No pressuring them, Aunt Jennie,” Marion admonished with a straight face but laughing eyes. “They don’t like being hurried. They’re likely to baulk like mules and wait until they’re thirty.”
“Jeepers, I hope not!” Frances cried, halting her knife and fork’s work at some beef. “I’m tired of waiting and guessing their intentions. I’ve been doing that for seven months. I just want to see them married!”
Everett grinned. “So do I.”
Kelsey Bryant, Suit and Suitability

“A house divided against itself cannot stand. There is no middle road, no 'white' sin. One is either for God or against Him - there is no compromise between His holiness and the works of spiritual darkness.”
Alicia A. Willis

“Sword rang on sword, the metallic sounds echoing throughout the wide market place and filling the crannies of every dark alley. Strength waged against strength, as, indeed, rivals of evil have ever-battled the adversaries of truth. The face of one combatant appeared cool and certain, the other passionate in his resolve, intent upon seeing the battle through and winning the day with valor...”

“Then all at once there was a flutterment and a scufflement and a loud "Squeak!"

The other squirrels scuttered away into the bushes.

When they came back very cautiously, peeping round the tree--there was Old Brown sitting on his door-step, quite still, with his eyes closed, as if nothing had happened.

But Nutkin was in his waistcoat pocket!

This looks like the end of the story; but it isn't.”
Beatrix Potter, The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin

“Travis straightened himself into soldierly erectness. The weariness of his countenance melted into chiseled resolve, tightening his chin. “I stay here to defend the Alamo. And, for those who will also choose to stay, I know that, although they may be sacrificed to the vengeance of a Gothic enemy, the victory will cost the enemy so dear that it will be worse for him than a defeat.”
