I’m a Christian, wife, fundraiser and writer living near Asheville, NC. I grew up on a 100-acre farm in French Creek, WV. I used to say “rural WV,” but realized that’s largely redundant. I LOVE my home state and the fact that I’m the seventh generation to grow up on the family farm. My love of the Appalachian Mountains informs my writing. I want you to be as wild about these hazy, blue mountains and the wonderful people who live in them as I am.

I’ve been married for eighteen years and I not only love my husband, I really, really like him. We started our journey together with three big dogs–Crockett, Precious and Sammy. We now have one small dog that requires more energy than the first three did together.

I entered contests, signed up for critiques at conferences, and got input from trusted readers. You won't want to take EVERY suggestion you get, but when you hear the same thing from two or three sources, you begin to find where the weaknesses lurk in your writing.(less)

I think Sadie has quite a bit more story to tell!

In 2017, I'll be introducing readers to a new WV family--the Markleys. My hero, Judd, is a coal miner who goes to SC after a terrible mine cave-in. I really love this story and can't wait to share it! The Sound of Rain should release next fall.(less)

[image error]Man friends, I’m so crazy right now that I basically gave you a repost of one of June’s blogs today. Shoot. I even used the same picture!

Well, that simply won’t do. So here’s something new.

It’s been hot lately even in the often refreshingly cool mountains of Appalachia. But before you complain about the heat, let me tell you about the summer of 1816–the summer that wasn’t.

The first...
