I am a busy mother of 4, a loving wife, and an unsuspecting author of a true medical drama/unconventional love story called With Angel's Wings. With Angel's Wings is my story. I wrote therapeutically as I was introduced to/initiated into life as a special needs mother. Years later friends, therapists, and nurses convinced me to share my tale. All names were changed in the book, out of respect for those who would not appreciate being mentioned by name, but aside from names, the story is 100% true. If, after reading With Angel's Wings, you are left with questions, please do not hesitate to ask. On the book's website (www.withangelswings.net) there is an "Ask the Author Forum", and all questions and feedback are more than welcome. Also on the ...more

Thank you for your kind words about With Angel's Wings, and congratulations on publishing what I'm sure is an absolutely fascinating memoir of your own! I am certainly no expert as I stumble my way through this whole business of promotion. It looks like you're getting some good reviews on Amazon. If you're looking for more, Choosy Bookworm has a read & review program that is helpful for getting a good-sized batch of new reviews. I really can't think of any "silver bullet" answers for gathering traction for a "take-off" moment for a book. It seems (so far, to me, anyway), like a continuous slog of promotional efforts. Are you a member of the Facebook group "We Love Memoirs"? If not, I highly recommend it. I'm a real "newbie" to the industry. There are some FABULOUS [more seasoned] authors in that group who would have a wealth of wisdom to share on how to best face the challenge of promotion. Other indie author groups are hugely helpful, too, like Indies Unlimited and MasterKoda (another Facebook group). Best of luck to you, and let me know if I can help in any other way! :) ~Stephanie(less)

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story, and thank you, again, for leaving your wonderful review! I didn't read it in a negative way at all! I don't know if you got a chance to read the epilogue (at http://www.withangelswings.net), but I became a nurse just after moving here to Washington (on the Medical Unit at Seattle Children's Hospital). There have been some AMAZING nurses who have worked with Sarah ("Hannah") over the years. It was really just the one homecare nurse who we had the negative experience with. She was a little scary (and one of the main reasons I changed all the names in the book, because I wouldn't put it past her to find me and beat me up [or worse] if she found herself bad-mouthed in a book!). The situation at Boston Children's when a nurse came in and didn't realize that cyanosis wasn't the norm for Sarah was really speaking more to my overall frustration with our situation than the nurse, herself. I get it. Nurses obviously don't know everything about their patient when they walk in the room for the first time. She was a cardiac nurse; I'm sure a good percentage of her patients were cyanotic at baseline. :) The home nurse who called the doctor to advise against giving the money toward a new vehicle is someone I still consider a friend, regardless. She was great with Sarah and certainly had many other redeeming qualities; we can't all be perfect. ;) Thanks again, take care, and have a wonderful day! :)(less)

I LOVE Gymnastics, but...

I don't know if I should classify this as a question thrown out to the world to answer, a rant, or a call to action. I am generally not the type of person to speak out. Sure, I share my experiences, I try to advocate for others when I can, but I'm not one to get up on a soap box or hit the streets with signs and chants to demand change.
I've become more confused and irritated by something lately, t Read more of this blog post »
