How to Live Like Your Time is Short
“This is quite a wake-up call.” My husband shook his head in disbelief as he adjusted his oxygen mask. I snapped a picture of him because I wanted to remember this moment. The moment where I almost lost him, but God slowly. brought him back to life.
I keep that picture on my phone as a reminder of how fragile life is — because I don’t want to forget the lessons we learned during one of the hardest seasons of our life.
It’s been 4 years since my husband spent a week in intensive care battling pneumonia. I am incredibly thankful for the amazing doctors and nurses who surrounded him with care and for Lord’s merciful healing.
You learn to really value every second of your life when you come close to losing it. We gained a new found appreciation for sunshine and laughter. We celebrate the gift of waking up in our own bed and the privilege of holding hands as we sit side by side on the couch. The first week he came home, every meal was a feast. Every smile was a tender embrace. Every second was a gift of God’s grace.
I want to make the most of the 86,400 seconds allotted to me today.
I’ve fully faced the truth: my days are numbered. I am not promised tomorrow.
Right now, we are in a battle for our lives as the whole world fights to survive COVID 19 by staying at home. But, I don’t want to miss the lesson God has for us during this season.
How about you, friend? Are you ready to get back to your regular life? Me, too. But, I am starting t realize I need to lean in and listen to what God is trying to teach us through this time of slowing down. Maybe God has placed us all on lockdown to remind us to make every moment count.
I want to live like my time on earth is short. May God give me an urgency and passion for this day just as if it was my last.
How to Live like Your Time is Short
Love with reckless abandon.
Love lays itself down. Don’t hoard your heart. Pour out your all as an alabaster offering.
“So I give you a new command: Love each other deeply and fully. Remember the ways that I have loved you, and demonstrate your love for others in those same ways. Everyone will know you as My followers if you demonstrate your love to others.” (John 13:34-35, VOICE)
Punch fear in the face.
Fear and anxiety paralyze you in a stagnant pool of doubt. Plunge fully into the depths of your faith. Ask God to give you His courage to step out of the boat and live boldly. You will never regret following Jesus into the deep during the storm. He is Lord of the wind and waves, and He is Lord of your life.
“For to me, to live is Christ–He is my source of joy, my reason to live–and to die is gain, for I will be with Him in eternity. (Philippians 1:21, AMP)”
Embrace every moment.
Don’t be casual about your day. Be purposeful about sharing the message of salvation with people who are lost and looking for hope. Impress on your circle of influence the importance of living a crucified life.
“Conduct yourself with wisdom in your interactions with outsiders who are non-believers, make the most of each opportunity treating it as something precious.” (Colossians 4:5, MSG)
Need more encouragement during this uncertain season? I’ve created a one-page printable to help you meditate on the awesomeness of your God and fire up your faith during a time of adversity. Yesterday, I was on a Zoom call with a woman whose faith has challenged me to get up off the couch and make the most of this season. She has not slowed down one bit while we are on lockdown. Instead of eating Oreos and feeling sorry for herself like me, she is using her phone as a megaphone to share the gospel. She is working her way through the contacts and reaching out to people each to ask them how they are surviving this COVID 19 crisis. Then, she asks if she can pray for them, and she has had the opportunity to share Jesus with a few friends and family members who are fighting fear and anxiety and desperately need hope.
When God reminds us that our life is like a vapor, we learn to live with greater passion and purpose. We aren’t scared to let our little light shine. People will notice the difference in our lives, and their questions will give us an opportunity to share that our hope is in Jesus. Our Savior is the Anchor for our soul during every season.
Time is short. Hold nothing back. Live like this is your last day.

When You Desperately Want a Happier Ending
More than once over the last year, my husband and I have sat together on the couch and cried about circumstances spiraling completely out of our control. Way before this whole COVID-19 crisis started, we have felt stuck in sad story of continual brokenness and pain. I thought my life would look much different than this, and frankly I want a happier ending.
Maybe like me your story has turned out exactly the opposite of what you expected. Shattered dreams can suck the life right out of us and leave us feeling empty and questioning everything. Instead of looking forward to tomorrow, we end up grieving what we’ve lost. We may put on a happy face in front of our friends and deny we are discouraged for a while, but then anger rises to the surface.
We look up to heaven and wonder Why God? Why am I going through this? Why won’t you change it? We spend our days questioning why and end up exhausted. The “if only’s” always lead to doubt and discouragement.
I am so tired of worrying about my future. I wish I could just get a glimpse of how my story is going to end.
This weekend, God whispered to my weary heart and reminded me He is the Author of my story, and I can trust Him with my tomorrow — even though I don’t have a clue what is coming next.
I woke up on Easter Sunday ready to share the hope of Resurrection with my grandson. I had purchased a set of Resurrection eggs and an Easter book for toddlers, and we sat in the kitchen and talked about how the empty tomb means hope is alive.

The darkest day of our story is never the end.
After I had finished reading, my little man asked if he could “read” the book while I washed the dishes. He clutched the book in his tiny little hands and started turning the pages and repeating what he remembered.
Page 1. Jesus loves me.
Turn the page. Page 2. Jesus loves me.
Page 3. Jesus loves me.
As I heard his giggly voice repeating the words I needed to hear, I turned around and smiled. The Holy Spirit had clearly sent me a 3-year-old prophet to speak life and peace over me on Easter morning.

Right now in heaven, a mighty warrior is fighting on your behalf. Your Rescuer will stop at nothing to deliver you. He delights in calling you His very own, and His purpose for you cannot be thwarted.
Your Savior has promised a happier ending is in store:
His love never fails us during trouble or temptation.
Our Savior will never forsake us or forget us. There is no hole deep or dark enough for us to fall into where we won’t find His love surrounding us.
“I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.” (Romans 8:39, MSG)
His Love fills us with hope and persevering strength.
Jesus embraces us unconditionally and helps us to endure the unthinkable. His love grabs hold of us when we are discouraged and never gives up.
“Love bears all things regardless of what comes, believes all things–looking for the best in each one, hopes all things–remaining steadfast during difficult times, endures all things without weakening.” (I Corinthians 13:7, AMP)
His love frees us from constant fear and anxiety.
When we place our faith in Christ, God’s steadfast love enters into our lives and expels fear. The Spirit of God gifts us with supernatural power to overcome paralyzing worry.
“God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us. This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we’re free of worry on Judgment Day—our standing in the world is identical with Christ’s. There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love. (I John 4:17-18, MSG)

You can trust the future is favorable because God is faithful. Your tomorrow is ensured by the Savior who encircles you with His unending love. He has hemmed you in behind and before. He has laid His hand upon you. Not one detail of your life escapes His notice.
As God pours His love into our hearts, His peace will overflow from our lives. Our redemption story will stand out in this world full of shattered hopes and dreams. We can point lost people to the Author and Perfecter of our faith. God’s perfect plans for us are always beyond what we can ask, think, or imagine.
Your Savior has ensured a happier ending that will exceed your expectations.

When You Need to Stay with It and Survive
I am struggling to stay with it during this scary season. I want my theme song to be “I Will Survive,” but the only song that currently comes to mind is “It’s the End of the World as We Know It.”
And, just like the song says: I feel fine.
Yeah, right. Who am I kidding? Not really. I am most definitely not fine.
I am frustrated.
I am feeling stuck.
I am fearful of the future.
I am definitely not fine.
I keep telling myself that God is faithful. He has always gotten me through, and He has never failed me.
And then I go grab an Oreo and pray God will help me stick it out.
How about you, friend? How was your week? Are you feeling holed up and isolated? Do you desperately want to break free from this crazy COVID pandemic?
Yeah, me too.
Yesterday, God reminded me that Jesus walked a lonely road to die on a cross, and then He spent a season in the grave. But God brought great redemption out of that time. I have to trust that the God who brings dead things back to life will bring something beautiful after this is all over and done. His redemption is at work even in this.
I am so thankful that Easter provides us an opportunity to start again afresh. With renewed hope and confidence, we can choose to live in light of His resurrection and claim His victory as our own. Yes, even now.
As I was digging into the Word this week, I was overjoyed to discover that God gave me some practical strategies to help us fuel our faith and persevere during this season of suffering. I hope that these Scriptural nuggets of truth will encourage your heart as much as mine.
How to Stay With It and Survive
Draw near to God
Daily visit the foot of the cross in your heart and allow Him to cleanse your heart on unbelief. (v. 22)
“…let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.” (Hebrews 10:22, CSB)
Hold unswervingly to hope
The only safe haven on this earth is found sitting at the feet of Christ, our faithful Savior.
“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise.” (Hebrews 10:23, NLT)
Link arms with uphill people to love deep and help big.
We are called to be “Jesus with skin on” and encourage one another on days when this world hits us hard.
“Discover creative ways to encourage others and to motivate them toward acts of compassion, doing beautiful works as expressions of love.” (Hebrews 10:24, TPT)

With God’s help, we will persevere through this uncertain season. He will give us what we need to stay with it and survive as we take small steps of faith day by day.
The crucified life is not for cowards. Let’s arm themselves with courage from the Word and walk forward together in the power of the Holy Spirit:
…You need to stick it out, staying with God’s plan so you’ll be there for the promised completion. It won’t be long now, He’s on the way; He’ll show up most any minute. But anyone who is right with Me thrives on loyal trust; if he cuts and runs, I won’t be very happy. But we’re not quitters who lose out. Oh, no! We’ll stay with it and survive, trusting all the way.
~Hebrews 10:35-39, MSG

When You Need the Strength to Stick it Out
[image error]
Exhaustion is my new best friend. I’ve napped way too much in the last week. Maybe I’m freaked out about the COVID-19 pandemic, or perhaps I’m just transforming into an anxious polar bear desperately in need of hibernation. Either way, this scary season is getting the best of me. I feel like I’m lacking the strength I need to stick it out. I wish I could just get away from it all, but with the whole world shut down, there is nowhere to escape.
Do you ever feel like you like the necessary strength to face the raw facts of your real life? Like you want to play hide and go seek permanently? I know I should just put my big girl pants on and get moving about my day, but I am currently irresistibly drawn to staying in my pajamas all day and hiding under the covers while eating double stuffed Oreos.
If I get out of bed, I have to deal with all the “what ifs.”
What if I get this scary thing and end up dying in the hospital alone?
What if someone I love gets it, and I can’t do anything to stop it?
What if the money stops coming in, and I can’t pay my bills?
What if I run out of toilet paper and have to leave the house without a mask?
The “what ifs” are killing my joy right now. I hate the “what ifs,” and I have decided to stop focusing on things that may not happen and are totally out of my control.
Instead of getting all hot and bothered about catastrophic imaginary scenarios, I want to remember “He is.”
My Mighty God is Lord over all.
He is my Refuge and Shield. The Lord will protect me from pandemics and has promised me a heavenly home.
He is the God of Angel Armies. He will command His warrior angels to guard my loves in all their ways.
He is my Provider. His storehouse supply is abundant. He sees my need and will sustain me.
He is a Present Help. He will never leave me nor forsake me. I do not walk alone.
When I stop frantically obsessing about what I can’t change and fix my gaze on God’s faithfulness, I find rest. He is my joy, and even in the midst of this uncertain season, He is my peace.
Friend, how are you feeling? Are you spending too much time watching the news and worrying? Do you have a mental list of “what ifs” that make you want to hide away from the world?
We are not alone. We are all scared, but God has not abandoned us. He is walking closely with us and will show us the way to the other side.
God wants us to give Him our “what ifs.” He will give us the strength to stick it out if we just slow down and let Him speak to our soul.
How to Find Strength to Stick it Out
Remember You’ve Already Been Delivered
You are not fighting this battle alone. You have an all-powerful Defender in your corner, and nothing will thwart His plans for your life. He has already paid the ultimate price to rescue you, and He will continue to cover you with His protection.
“God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son He loves so much, the Son Who got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating.” (Colossians 1:13-14, MSG)
Realize Your Savior Holds All Things Together
Your world is not falling apart completely because God is totally in control. He has you and everything that concerns you in His mighty hands. You can trust He will take care of you.
“He existed before anything else, and He holds all creation together.” (Colossians 1:17, NLT)
Recognize You’re here to Spread the Word
Instead of fixating on what you cannot change, focus your energy on making an eternal difference. You know that Truth and have an unshakeable hope to share. Let lost people know that they have a refuge, and His name is Jesus.
“Christ is our message! We preach to awaken hearts and bring every person into the full understanding of truth. It has become my inspiration and passion in ministry to labor with a tireless intensity, with His power flowing through me, to present to every believer the revelation of being His perfect one in Jesus Christ.” (Colossians 1:28, TPT)

As we lift our eyes to the. Lord, we will lean into His strength. He is always on watch for us, and He never slumbers. We can trust that our Mighty God will keep us from all harm and shelter us. Choosing to trust God during this chaotic time will set us apart to those who are desperately seeking safe haven. We can encourage our distressed friends and neighbors to look to Jesus as the only true refuge. Only our Savior gives the glory strength that spills out into joy in our lives.
Your Savior will always supply the strength to stick it out.

When You Need to Surrender the Unknown to God
[image error]
Yesterday, I was driving on the way to the store, and my mind started making a mental list of all the concerns that are weighing down on my spirit right now. So much is out of my control and unknown. We are walking through an extended valley season in our world – everywhere my husband and I look in our circle of influence we see a hurting friend or a critical need. I am tired. Sometimes, the cares of this life will make you weary.
But, God sees me. He knows my need. So, there in my car, His grace met me through a song. My radio dial is pre-set to a local Christian station, and as I sat there lost in my thoughts, suddenly God grabbed my attention through the lyrics.
Praise the Father, Praise the Son.
Praise the Spirit, Three in One.
Clothed in power and in grace
the name above all other names.
Yours is the kingdom,
Yours is the power.
Yours is the glory forever.
God graciously reminded me that today is His day, not mine. I can walk in confidence knowing that He is sovereignly orchestrating every moment of my day. He has a greater redemptive plan.
This morning, I got up with greater hope and a sense of purpose. I lifted my heart to Him in prayer. Lord, Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory today and every day.
I found freedom in that 3-fold prayer and surrendered my day to God.
Maybe like me you are overwhelmed about what tomorrow will hold. We are locked down in our houses feeling helpless. But God is our present help. He will see us through world crisis, health issues, financial loss, and all the brokenness.
We find strength to face the unknown as we pray:
Yours is the Kingdom.
The Lord reigns sovereign over all. Things may be out of our control, but they are always firmly in His hand. Nothing can thwart God’s righteous purposes.
“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.” (Hebrews 12:28)
Yours is the Power.
God is able. His strength is limitless, and all things are possible for Him. Our mountain-moving God is mightier than all opposition we face.
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.” (2 Peter 1:3)
Yours is the Glory.
God will manifest His majesty right where we are standing. The Light of the world will dispel all darkness and restore order in the end. We can live with a worshipful expectation that His awesomeness will be revealed in an unmistakeable way.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

I am so thankful that God’s grace reached out and refreshed my Spirit as I drove to the store. May we never forget that our Creator God is firmly in control of every aspect of our lives. He is Lord of all. His majesty fills this universe. Nothing is impossible for Him. As we lift our eyes to Him in worship, our perspective changes. As we surrender our day to Him, we find new hope. Through prayer and meditating on His Word, our mind is renewed.
You are His. Sweet freedom is yours as you rest in His care.

When It Feels Like Your Life Has Disappeared
[image error]
This month I feel like my life has disappeared twice.
The first time was about 10 days ago. I sat down at my writing desk at the start of the day and opened up my calendar to see my well-thought out list of things to do. When I flipped to the month of March where I had posted everything, the page was blank. My to-do list was empty and every square on the calendar spread had disappeared. I blinked and sat there in disbelief.
Where did my life go? It was as if someone took a big eraser and decided to blot me out. Every appointment and deadline was gone.
After a few moments of mental paralysis, my brain finally kicked in and started to process. I remembered that I had used an erasable pen to write in my calendar, and I thought about how I had left the important date book on the dashboard in my hot car the previous day.
I googled “how to make a Frixion pen ink come back,” and I found a lovely YouTube video where a very wise man suggested that I get up from my desk, walk into my kitchen, and place my empty calendar into the freezer for a couple of hours. I had nothing to lose, so that is exactly what I did.
I am delighted to report that later that day I had a very cold calendar with visible words on it once again. My life hadn’t disappeared at all — I just needed to change the atmosphere a bit.
Now it’s a week later, and I’ve had to pull out my calendar again and erase much of what I had written in it anyway. Because of COVID-19, much of my life is on hold. I’ve had to say goodbye to lunch dates and small group Bible study. I’ve grieved the loss of face to face fellowship with church family on Sunday. As an extrovert, I am dearly missing all the human contact I so much crave.
Maybe like me you are sitting at home wondering how you are going to pay the bills and hoping you don’t run out of toiler paper. If you are are feeling like. your life has disappeared, and all of your well laid plans for 2020 have gone to waste, you are not alone.
Here is the thing that I’ve had to process over the last few days: although this whole flu pandemic has put us all in a frenzy and disrupted our lives, none of this is a surprise to the Lord. Our Heavenly Father has allowed this season, and that means that He has a purpose for us even in this. He has work for us to do even when it seems like our life has disappeared.
The Apostle Paul spent a great deal of his ministry in prison. His life disappeared over and over as disruptions and opposition overturned his plans. But, he did not let that deter him. Think about this: most of the New Testament was written when Paul was stuck in a situation where he probably felt quite powerless. But, he persevered nevertheless.
I’ve been reading through Paul’s letters looking for wisdom to help me navigate this season, and I want to share with you 4 moves you can make even though you are stuck at home feeling helpless right now.
4 Moves to Make When It Feels Like Life Has Disappeared
Fan the Flame
Just as you stoke up a fire, you need to prod your spirit to stay aflame. Tend to your spiritual life by investing daily time in fueling your faith. Open up your Bible, listen to an encouraging podcast, tune into a sermon online, read a book that moves you.
“I’m writing to encourage you to fan into a flame and rekindle the fire of the spiritual gift God imparted to you when I laid my hands upon you.” (II Timothy 1:6, TPT)
Don’t live in fear
The enemy of our souls wants to fill our hearts with worry, but instead we can choose to worship. We can live with confidence that our faithful God is fighting for us. We can lean on His strength, rest in His love, and pray for wisdom and discernment when life seems out of control.
“For God will never give you the spirit of fear, but the Holy Spirit who gives you mighty power, love, and self-control” (II Timothy 1:7, TPT)
Face Adversity with steadfast resolve
You may endure suffering, but you can trust God will keep you safe. The Spirit will empower you and supernaturally provide everything you need to survive this season. Your Savior sees you, understands your pain, and will step in with His strength as you move forward in faith.
“So never be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor be embarrassed over my imprisonment, but overcome every evil by the revelation of the power of God!” (II Timothy 1:8, TPT )
Fulfill Your Calling
God’s plans for you are not limited by time, space, or your own frailty. Before time began, God purposefully created you and placed you precisely where you are today. He has given you a firm place to stand, and now your job is to glorify Him with your words and actions. You are exactly where you need to be for God to shine through you.
” …for He delivered us and saved us and called us with a holy calling, a calling that leads to a consecrated life—a life set apart—a life of purpose, not because of our works, or because of any personal merit—we could do nothing to earn this, but because of His own purpose and grace, His amazing, undeserved favor, which was granted to us in Christ Jesus before the world began eternal ages ago.” (II Timothy 1:9, AMP)

When life is disrupted, we have a unique opportunity to share how God is at work even when life is seemingly out of control. Today. you can tell someone who is freaking out about this pandemic that God is present and will provide every need. You may be stuck at home, but you can still shout His praises. You can share you have an unshakeable hope in Christ and help someone find safe haven.
You can make an eternal difference in someone’s life by pointing to Jesus. You can pray for peace to reign in the hearts of your loved ones. You can speak life over the discouraged. My friend, see this disruption as a divine opportunity to partner with God.
If it seems like your life has disappeared, trust God has a plan and purposefully persevere.

What Happens When You Are No Longer Estranged
[image error]
At least once a week, a frownie faced toddler looks me in the eye and declares, “You’re not my best friend.” Little man does not like it when he does not get his way, and he communicates his displeasure loudly. I always lean down and plant a big, sloppy kiss on his forehead and let him know, “You will always be my best friend.” Grandma’s love for Mr. Crabby Pants does not waver. Whether he is obedient or stubbornly rebellious, I persevere in protecting him and ensuring he is provided for in every way.
As I read the gospels and see Jesus standing before Pilate, I know His entire being was focused on the joy set out for Him. (Hebrews 12:2) My Savior disregarded the shame and answered not His accusers to rescue a sinner like me.
Jesus loved me when I was stubbornly stuck in sin.
A suffering servant, He bore stripes to set me free.
He humbly bore the cross to buy me back from hell itself.
Jesus persevered in pursuing me as His very own.
I once was a stranger and enemy of God bound for hell, but the blood of Christ broke down all the barriers of sin and shame and brought me back into harmony. My best friend died in my place on a cruel cross.
Oh, what manner of love!
Salvation is full and free for anyone who would receive Jesus and be reconciled. Sadly, Judas never repented. Yes, he regretted the outcome, but he never fully surrendered his will to the Savior as his all in all.
When we insist on wandering our own way, we always end up holding nothing in our greedy hands. Christ longs to strip away our shame and cover us with His grace. He wants to crown us with His compassion and cover us with His righteousness (Psalm 103:4; II Corinthians 5:21)
Sister, you are no longer estranged. You have been embraced by the unconditional love of a Friend and Savior that will never let you go.
Today, remind yourself of this truth: “Because of Jesus, I have been brought near and presented as holy, without blemish, and blameless.”
Stop and read that last sentence again slowly and out loud. You are not the woman you once were. Your Redeemer has fully reconciled and restored you.
What should be our response to His lavish love? Colossians 1 provides us a roadmap…
I’m sharing “You are No Longer Estranged” at Love God Greatly.

When You Need to Shift Your Perspective
[image error]
Bruce and I were standing in front of a photograph, and I was squinting. “I don’t see it. I am terrible at these things,” I grumbled. My husband chucked and encouraged me to take two steps back and then shift my gaze a little to one brilliant spot on the right side of the photo.
Suddenly, I saw it. There behind all the blur of color and light was a clear portrait of Christ standing with arms outstretched reaching toward me.
He was there the whole time. I had just failed to focus on Him.
Oh, how I long to see Jesus! But, I am so distracted by all the things on the surface that I totally miss HIs hand clearly evident in the midst of it all.
I just need to take a step back and ask the Holy Spirit to help me shift my gaze and see His glory shining through.
Lord, open my eyes. I want to see You.
Maybe like me, you are struggling to see the Lord at work in a visible way in your current circumstances. Everything seems chaotic, and you are wondering why God has allowed certain things to take place.
Friend, sometimes we just need to take a step back and ask God to help us see.
Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. (Matthew 6:6, MSG)
Let’s set aside time this week to be still and settle our hearts. We can ask God to remind us He is faithful, and He will never fail us. May He remove the veil of doubt from our eyes and give us fresh eyes of faith to see His majesty revealed even in our mess.
To help you get started, I’ve created a one-page printable to help you meditate on the faithfulness of your God and fire up your faith. Grab a copy and spend the next 7 days focusing on how your God is able to help see you through anything. Every morning, you can sit at His feet and strengthen your walk as you remind yourself your unchanging God is in control. Sign up today as a member of the Wildfire Faith Community and grab a copy in our Faith Fuel Library.
Adjusting our point of view ever so slightly will fill us with fresh determination and transform our destiny. As we look to the Lord, doubt loses it power, and we move forward with renewed hope and purpose. Our faith will testify that our God is forever faithful and true.
As we shift our perspective, we start sensing His grace.

Let’s Chat: Do you struggle to shift your perspective when you are in a season of suffering?
Shifting Our Focus to See the Presence of God
“If we want to see God in the midst of our struggles, we have to change the way we look for him.
There is no denying that miracles, answers to prayer, and abundant blessings testify to God’s presence. When the desires of our hearts are filled, it’s easy to see him. But what about the seasons when he seems invisible? Scripture tells us God never sleeps, but it is easy to feel like he is not attuned to our needs. Shift explores the life-changing truth that when we adjust our lens to focus our eyes on God rather than on what we wish we were seeing in our lives, he reveals himself to us. In fact, those moments when he seems invisible to us are often when others see him the most in us.
When Jesus walked the earth, he looked to God for his earthly needs. Jesus had a deep relationship with the Father that fueled his mission, his purpose, and his effectiveness. Scripture tells us that we can have that too. But there is a shift that needs to take place in our hearts and minds. No matter our circumstances, we can see God in our lives—right here, right now.”

Her vulnerable stories reminded me God has not forgotten my heartache, and He is whispering grace over me even when my spiritual sight is limited. Shift will uplift your perspective on the hard seasons and help you move forward with renewed hope.

A Message from Abby:
“I wrote this book for the person who wants to see God in her situation, but has hit a wall. Whether it’s because of unanswered prayers, a deferred dream, or a loss of hope, she feels like God is absent. Or if he’s there, he’s definitely not showing up the way she’d hoped. I know what it feels like to wonder why God would clearly call you to take a step of faith, only to face endless roadblocks, detours and distractions. Many nights I’ve wondered, ‘Was that really you, God? Did I hear you at all?’”

When You Long for God the Father’s Love to Embrace You
[image error]
When my husband and I got engaged, his friend Hal thought it was necessary to educate me on the ways of marriage. Hal was schooled in matrimony by his wife from Venezuela, and now that he was no longer wild and free, he considered himself a marital expert of sorts. We were standing in front of my new undecorated house, and Bruce had just helped me unload my many heavy bundles from the car. I was about to fold myself into Bruce’s warm embrace for a big hug when Hal felt it necessary to spoil my moment with sarcastic commentary.
“Soon, she will call you, Papi, and you will come running,” he predicted. I bristled at the remark. “Papi” is a Spanish term of endearment for Father, but many Hispanic women also use it as a pet name for their husbands.
I looked at Bruce and declared, “I promise you, I will never call you Papi.” That was 8 years ago.
I’ve discovered much about the love of the Father by observing my husband. He delights in playing peekaboo with our grandson. He delays judgment when the phone doesn’t ring on his birthday. He dedicates hours at his workbench to fix a beloved toy. He consistently deposits gifts of grace in our lives and never demands anything in return.
When I am heartbroken and ready to give up, Bruce will often reach out to enclose me in His loving arms and say, “Come to Papa.”
Friends, we are secure in our Father’s embrace. He loves prodigals and cry babies and spoiled brats alike. He longs to shelter us.
I desperately want to live intimately connected to my Father’s embrace. But, sometimes my greedy heart gets in the way. I am highly distracted by the baubles of this world. I confess I’m great at binge watching HGTV, but frequently fall asleep with my Bible in my lap. Rather than slow down and sit at the feet of the Father, I often run ragged and fail to remember Him. Instead of nuzzling close to my Abba, I spend too much time nursing a bad attitude.
To truly know the Father, I must study His ways and stop demanding my own way:
Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from Him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity… Stay with what you heard from the beginning, the original message. Let it sink into your life. If what you heard from the beginning lives deeply in you, you will live deeply in both Son and Father. This is exactly what Christ promised: eternal life, real life! (I John 2:15-17, 24-25 MSG)
I’ve started praying for My Heavenly Father to awaken my senses to His loving embrace. I want to
See the evidences of His goodness and grace.
“I would have despaired had I not believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.” (Psalm 27:13, AMP)
Hear the whisper of His still small voice.
“Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track.” (Proverbs 3:6, MSG)
Taste the sweetness of His Word.
“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! “ (Psalm 119:103).
Smell the fragrance of His sacrifice.
“Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” (Ephesians 5:2, NLT)
Feel the tenderness of His touch.
“Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand.” (Psalm 73:23, NASB).

Stepping into the embrace of God’s love gives us peace and confidence. His love wraps around us, holds us close, and keeps us safe in this crazy world.
Our Father God will never demand our love, but He delights in those moments when we crawl up into His lap and cry out “Papa.” What are you waiting for? Turn off the television screen and snuggle in close.
Peekaboo, God sees you. Come cozy up close to the Father. Feel the warmth of His embrace.
You are secure in the embrace of God the Father.

4 Ways Love Can Be Your Superpower
[image error]
As a child, I had a strong sense of justice. I lived in a home where the scales tipped heavily down in one direction, and I thought it was my job to defend the defenseless. If I could have had any superpower, it would have been the strength to make a nasty person behave nicely.
I pushed and shoved in hopes of righting a wrong. What I realized after many rancorous battles was that she who yells loudest does not win.
Hostility never saves the day.
All my self-righteous indignation did little to change the acrimonious state of affairs in my environment.
I can’t strong-arm my way to greater peace. Pride never tears down strongholds of hatred and abuse.
Years of pain and misunderstanding later, I sat vigil in a hospital room next to the sick bed of the pesky person who I’d viewed as my adversary for close to three decades. Caring for a fragile shell of the broken bully cut through the layers of bravado.
I saw the raw weakness and need in the eyes of my enemy. God spoke clearly to me on that day. The Great Physician told me to lay down my sword and put on my servant’s hat.
My job is not to chastise and cajole. My calling is to support and strengthen.
If I became a helper, God would step in as a Healer.
Using my own might, my flesh will never succeed in this endeavor, but I’ve got access to God’s supernatural strength as I rely on the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells in me.
I’ve learned that love is my superpower.
If you are sitting down somewhere reading this right now and thinking, I want to love well, but most days I am struggling not to let my head explode, I totally understand. Loving well in hard spaces is not easy. But we’ve received the love of God, and His love lives in us. We just need to remember how much we are loved ourselves.
Let’s chat about how we can access God’s love and use love as a weapon to win the war against animosity.
4 Ways Love Can Be Your Superpower
Respond with forbearance.
Love patiently perseveres.
“Fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult” (Proverbs 12:16, NIV)
Extends grace.
Love puts down the hammer and presses in with a hug.
“Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.” (Proverbs 10:12)
Promote peace.
Love builds bridges and brings a casserole dish in stead of carrying a list of complaints.
“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:18)
Speak with kindness.
Love uplifts the conversation by focusing on the positive and using sweet words.
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1)
As we tap into God’s supernatural love, He transforms broken relationships and restores families.
I wish I could tell you that God has completely redeemed the brokenness in my family of origin, but that is not that case. What has happened is that as I’ve surrendered my will to God’s, He has softened my heOnart and changed my perspective.
I no longer seek justice. I long for salvation.
I’ve come to view my family as my mission field, not my battlefield. Sure, there are still minefields of misunderstanding to wade through, but rather than fight in the flesh, I choose to wage war on my knees and don the armor of the Spirit. The Apostle Paul challenged the warrior believers in the early church to “be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet” (I Thessalonians 5:8).
Just this week, we had family drama. I’ve once again adopted the hashtag #ArmorOn and chosen to let God fight my battles for me, rather than respond with vindictiveness. Just because someone picks a fight with me doesn’t mean I have to put up my fists. I can fall at the feet of Jesus and crucify my pride instead.
Want to join me in loving well? We can’t love others well until we realize how deeply loved we are by God. As we let God pour His love into us, then His grace in our lives will overflow and spill out to those around us.
To help remind you how much God loves you, I’ve created a beautiful list of 7 Scriptural promises for you to meditate on this week. Sign up today as a member of the Wildfire Faith Community and grab a copy in our Faith Fuel Library. Print out your copy and start each morning letting God’s love wash over you as you worship the One who loves you most. Love can’t be your superpower if you don’t recognize how much God loves you first.
With God’s help, we can love deep and tear down those walls of discord. “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” (I Corinthians 13:7, NLT). Choosing to love is hard, but your sacrifice will bring healing. Stubborn hearts soften as we step forward with open hearts and arms outstretched. Love changes everything.
The enemy of our souls loves to plant seeds of discord in our families – especially around the holidays. At one point over the holidays, I was pretty sure I’d end up eating turkey alone on Thanksgiving and decorating my tree in a puddle of tears. But I prayed through the pain, and I responded with love.
If we all use love as our superpower in hard spaces, we will see God transform the atmosphere around us. Souls will be saved. Marriages will be cemented. Children will thrive, and friendships will flourish. Love triumphs every time.
Love is your superpower. It melts hard hearts and breathes life and light into dark places.
