Filipino American author and reader on a journey of self-discovery and reflection through the power of storytelling. No history, no self. Know history, know self.

Set in Las Vegas, "Enlightenment" explores the history of the Philippines through the modern-day first-person perspectives of Filipino-American Dorothy Dizon and transfer student Adrian Rosario, sent to protect her from unseen enemies of his Filipino secret society.

Inspired by the beautiful folklore, myths and legends of my motherland, the Philippines.

“The history of the islands is fleeting, but when one remembers, it's the land of a thousand unknown tribes written out of history.”

“My family taught me an alternate perspective. Greek mythology was completely borrowed from Polynesian and Pacific Island folklore.”

“You're eighteen years old and you graduated high school. You're Filipino and American. But what if everything you know is predicated on assumptions about the world that are misleading and false?”

“You must think I don’t know what’s keeping you up at night. You must think we’re so different. But I know. Everyone knows despair. Isn’t that why people jump off bridges or drown themselves? Anything, really, to escape being human.”
V.J. Campilan, All My Lonely Islands

“...I have often wondered why we do it. Uproot ourselves, I mean. Why we feel the need to travel and wander into strange soil. Why we can't leave things alone. It must be the world calling to us. After all, they say it had been one giant continent once. Maybe this is why we feel drawn to each other, to the lands we cannot see. We think of new places as opportunities to build new lives, but all are we're really doing is trying to find our way back.”
