Say Hello to Camera Marketing, PR’s New Frontier

camera marketing

Wait for it…It’s official, welcome to the age of Camera Marketing!

According to Statista  77% of adults own a smartphone, with the number skyrocketing to 94% within the 18-29 year old demographic. Their polling also shows that 100% of smartphone users use a smartphone camera.

Pack your lenses and filters, we got the lowdown from Carolina Arguelles, Head of AR Monetization Product Strategy for Snap and social media veteran, to see the evolution of a golden egg machine in real time.

While speaking at the world’s first Mixed Reality Marketing Conference this past November Arguelles reminded attendees,

“While the past 10 years have been about Social Media Marketing, the next 10 will introduce a new form of marketing — Camera Marketing. People everywhere are exploring the world through their camera and want to create content on behalf of brands because it’s fun, useful, or relevant.”

The Revolution is going to be streamed, in 3D

With the evolution of the miniaturized smartphone camera and its parity with digital standalone cameras, users and companies now have the ability to create an atmosphere for profitability by leveraging the empowered consumers habits.

Argulles continues, “…at Snapchat we believe play is powerful and have built an ecosystem of products around the camera, including Lenses an AR format. Since the launch of Lenses, Snapchat has aired more than 100,000 AR experiences resulting in more than 250,000 years of playtime. What we’ve learned is that a mobile strategy without the camera is not a mobile strategy.”

Users have leveraged more than 1 Trillion photos to reshape the digital marketing landscape.

As Snap’s CEO, Evan Spiegel, puts it, “The camera is evolving from being a barrier, separating users from the world, to becoming an aperture, for users to explore the world.”

Where are the intersecting lines?

Users are gaining more control over the marketing mix that companies are using to offer products with a higher likelihood of a positive result, or sale.

“One specific form of camera marketing, the use of augmented reality (AR), is quickly gaining traction, as demonstrated by Pokémon Go’s meteoric rise to 50 million users in the US in a matter of weeks…By blending the physical and digital worlds and enabling users to actively shape their experiences, AR offers unique ways for marketers to interact with consumers.”

You can also rest assured that the further proliferation of camera marketing will only grow in its intersection with the ever expanding consumer friendly AR/VR App Space and dynamic digital  infrastructure.

“Snap estimates that more than 80 million people in the US, or roughly one-third of all smartphone users, engage with AR at least monthly. The consumers using AR applications are a particularly attractive segment for advertisers: most are millennials (aged 19 to 34) or Generation Z consumers (aged 18 or younger).

3 Rules to Make Camera Marketing work for your brand

Follow these three simple rules.

1. Find where your business model can find efficiencies within Camera Marketing’s creative process.

“Communication is just the first of many places where we’ll see the camera used as more than just a device for “capturing moments.” In the same way the camera transformed communication, it won’t be long before the camera starts to take part in pretty much every aspect of our lives.” By ensuring you are educated about the camera marketing phenomenon, you can easily create an AR immersive expiring for your clients which will help differentiate you from the competition.

2. Identify  where your business fits into the AR/VR medium and your customers will participate in the conversation.

“When you give people a way to communicate visually, it sticks. 100% of smartphone users use their smartphones to take pictures, and 52% of those people use their in-app cameras that make communicating visually easy to do — every single day.”

Meaning, yes there will be a learning curve, but who remembers when cell phones without physical buttons was unimaginable just a few  years ago. Stick to the fundamentals and evolve in tandem with your customers, if they cannot understand how to follow you to a better experience, you are risking falling behind competitors in a marketplace being shaped as this entry posts.

3. Be FLEXIBLE and realize that no ideas for curation are off the table.

According to one of the leading digital marketing research Snap, “CMOs should instill a mindset of test and learn throughout their organizations by setting up the right processes, rewarding new ideas (and not punishing failed ones), and incorporating test and learn into the operating model with partners (and even into contracts when possible). Only by taking risks and continually improving will advertisers get the most out of a new marketing tool like AR.”

While the consumer is learning how to interact in this new digital space, it is absolutely imperative that social media, public relations and digital marketers guide strategy and level of complexity in concert with that learning. That means we need you to help us create the future.

Arguelles reminds us that camera marketing makes It now possible to get together with a creative expert, create an immersive AR/VR experience, and transport someone inside an immersive experience for your brand.

If you haven’t started determining where your business fits into the practice of Camera Marketing and the AR/VR/Digital landscape, now is the time.

Where to start with camera marketing?

Right here with the trusted, experienced, and dedicated professionals at The Buyer Group, where social public relations is our second language. Let’s build the future!

You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

Wondering why you make the same goals each year and never get there? Trying to figure out how to stop procrastinating, get over the daily dramas and love your life and most importantly love yourself?  You can do anything. You Are a Badass is blunt, hilarious, actionable and universe shifting. It feels like the author is sitting right next to you chatting as if she’s your straight up no-nonsense best friend. Real words, actionable tips and a life-changing opportunity to get your ass into gear.

Virtual Reality Headset – Get Set!

My fave brand is Oculus. You can buy the Go or the Rift right now, or coming soon is the Quest. I personally prefer the Rift, but eventually will get the Quest because it allows you to access both AltSpaceVR and Facebook Spaces. If you take the VR plunge, meet up with me for weekly yoga classes on AltSpaceVR and weekly Social PR Secrets and Digital Detox Secrets meetups on Facebook Spaces.

A recent Facebook report confirms VR and AR will be part of our all we do in our daily lives, from shopping to socializing. Marketers and entrepreneurs need to brace themselves to embrace VR and integrate it into their the Social PR and marketing strategy. By 2020, it’s predicted that more than 1 in 5 internet users in the US will experience VR content at least once a month. When it comes to augmented reality, it’s already part of our everyday lives. Instagram stories and Snapchat filters are AR overlays. If you’re a newbie, we broke down all you need to know about VR here. If you’re a more advanced user, follow Social VR expert, Navah Berg here.

Portal by Facebook

It’s Facebook’s latest video-calling device. Think Facetime on steroids. Portal by Facebook takes video calls to a whole new level and experience. It also includes Augmented Reality effects to make calls even more fun and interactive. Story Time brings stories to life with custom sound effects and visuals.

CBD Oil

Besides stress, one of the hottest topics this year is CBD oil. Ironically, it is one of the best and most natural cures for stress and anxiety while also improving cognitive functions and promoting sleep. I started taking Ojai Energetics this summer and watched my sleep analytics significantly improve. Thanks to data on my Fitbit, I could see the improvements in my REM, deep and light sleep plus I woke up much less in the middle of the night. So out of all of the CBD oil options, why do I love Ojai?

They encapsulate the full spectrum hemp oil in nanobubbles of water so that it is instantly absorbed upon contact with the mouth. What does this mean to me and possibly you? I can actually feel the benefits in 30 seconds not 30 minutes like normal CBD rich oils. It also increases the amount of CBD the body can use by 20x the regular amount.

On top of that, they use only certified organic ingredients, unlike anyone else who uses synthetically modified or synthetic compounds to encapsulate their oil.

This makes Ojai Energetics the fastest acting, safest, and most bioavailable CBD on the market. If you try Ojai Energetics, let me know how you like it!

Deepak Chopra Free 21 Day Meditations

Hanging out with a spiritual thought leader for 21 days can make shift happen. My most dysfunctional days are the days I skip mediation. Deepak Chopra makes it easy by giving us a new Sanskrit mantra each day to repeat to yourself during the silent meditation period, which helps calm your mind and deepen your practice. If you haven’t already, create an account for free to experience the undeniable benefits of meditation for yourself.

Follow Deepak’s social channels to be notified when he launches his mediation challenges. Sometimes Oprah even joins him. Sign up to be notified and in the meantime start meditating right now! Start with this:

1. #Breathe in. Breathe out.

2. Don’t just see, but #FEEL what’s around you

3. #Forgive yourself

4. Be #grateful for the #moment and how it is helping you evolve.

Spiral Notebooks

Old school spiral notebooks are one of my favorite ways to journal my to-do list each day. If you buy the You Are Badass book, you will especially need a notebook to write out all the negative thoughts you keep in your brain and all the things you are grateful for each day. My favorite spiral notebook is by ban.do. Each page even has a space for the date. Most importantly, it lies flat or folds over.

There is no denying the power of the written word. Just the act of writing down your dreams and goals, ignites an entirely new dimension of consciousness, ideas, and productivity according to, Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at the Dominican University in California. She found you become 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams simply by writing them down on a regular basis.

Dreams do come true when you write down your goals. Try it for 7 days straight and let me know how your superpowers worked @LisaBuyer.

Unplug It!

Whether it is a business mastermind such as the elite Baby Bathwater event, a destination industry workshop such as Cat Howell’s Facebook in Fiji, or the entrepreneur excursion Unplugged , find a conference that focuses on relationship building and learning.

On the personal side – leave work in a box with boundaries. Take an unplugged time out even if it’s your own bathtub spa experience, going to the gym, checking out for lunch, or planning a vacation somewhere where your inbox is on auto response. Researchers found that when people “unplugged” from work-related tasks, such as checking their work email after hours, they reported feeling fresher and more recharged when beginning work the following day.

Ultimately, the key to success in Social PR is to find your zen throughout it. In a world that tends to be connected 24/7, it’s those who find the time to disconnect that achieve longevity and success with their Social PR efforts. If you need a place to start, Lisa Buyer shared her 12 tips to finding social media zen in her latest Search Engine Journal article.

Customer Care

Who’s in charge of your brand in 2019? Your customers. Make sure you are taking care of your customers where they are hanging out on social media. According to Sprinklr, 80% of consumers engage with brands online, and 54% of customers prefer social messaging channels for care instead of phone or email. If you have not already done so, get set up in a third party platform such as MobileMonkey to connect with customers and check out HubSpot’s Flywheel concept.

20+ SEO Words You Should Delete From Your Vocabulary Immediately

seo words

Are you still using any of these outdated PR SEO terms? More than 16 thousand reads and over 2000 shares – this is Lisa Buyer’s most popular article on Search Engine Journal.

Are you still using any of these outdated PR SEO terms? More than 16 thousand reads and over 2000 shares – this is Lisa Buyer’s most popular article on Search Engine Journal.

SEO: The Most Overused SEO Word Ever?

Here’s why you can’t be all things to all people.

SEO is not magic and it’s not a catchall.

“The word SEO on its own isn’t bad,” said digital marketing consultant and SEO expert Kelsey Jones. “People are starting to use it as a way to not explain to clients what they are doing. Shady agencies are using vague terms to not be transparent with clients.

“I have small business owners coming to me, asking for ‘SEO’ and assuming it will magically make them number one in search results simply because other SEO practitioners have said it’s possible within months. As professionals, it’s just not right to be taking advantage of people who have no idea what you’re talking about,” Jones added.

Considering SEO’s birth dates back to 1997 making it just over 20 years old, there’s still a ton of growing up to do.

We’ve gone from birth to infancy to middle school to teen years and graduated from college.

SEO was quite simple in the early years.

Gaming the system was easy.

Manipulating search results was the game.

Now that SEO is in its 20’s, things are starting to mature and get serious.

As SEO grows up, so does the vocabulary, terminology, and best practices.

In today’s complicated and fast-moving digital marketing world change is a way of life. It’s true, If search marketers had to pick a specialty it would be “expert in change.”

And so the SEO goes.

What worked last year is old news and what was amazing five years ago is ancient history in Google years.

Optimizing to win results on Google’s Page 1 search results needs an attitude of “adapt or die.”

To keep up with the changes, here are 20-something SEO words industry experts would like to delete, die, and say bye-bye.

Jenny Halasz, SEO/SEM Consultant

Most Overused SEO Words

Integrated Campaigns

Seriously, if your campaigns aren’t coordinating with each other, you are doing it wrong. This is not a selling point, it’s a requirement.

Hacking Anything

You’re not a hack. Why would you ever use a word that literally means to cobble together last minute to describe anything that you do?!

SEO Words Trending In

Authentic

Be real, honest, cool. Be like Fonzie baby. Be cool.

Customer

This is who it’s all about. Each customer is unique and has different needs.

Personas and target markets are helpful to define, but your customer is not a persona. They’re a real person with real needs.

Mobile

It shocks me to still get plans for pages that are designed for desktop. Designing for desktop now is like shoving an 8-track into your iPhone’s headphone jack (too soon?). Both are obsolete just like desktop.

Design for mobile, optimize for mobile. It’s not the future; it’s now.

Link Juice

I can’t believe people still use this word today. There is no such thing. People who use it sound amateurish and, frankly, dumb.

Why Vertical Video is a Social PR Secret

vertical video

Hold it. Your social public relations strategy is taking a turn, it’s called vertical video. Here’s why: vertical videos have 90% higher completion rate than horizontal.

The advancements of technology enable smartphones and tablets to replace computers, as they cover similar functions. As a result, people’s online lives have migrated to mobile devices in this digital era.

Mobile trends and takeovers

Along with this trend, mobile devices are also constantly evolving to fit the needs of its users. Just a decade ago, you’d be hard pressed to find any display of phones and specifications suitable to watch a video. Nowadays, larger displays and higher quality screens embedded on smartphones make watching videos an enjoyable and preferable experience.

Research by Recson shows that 75% of mobile traffic will come from videos in five years. That’s an increase of over 50% from the traffic today. Videos make everything real and personal.

Videos help to humanize your brand, educate the buyer, simplify the complex, evoke emotion and tell a story noted Lisa Buyer in her most recent Search Engine Journal article.

Social media platforms embraced this trend by adopting vertical videos. It all started with Snapchat, that paved the way with Snap Ads to vertical videos in 2016. Next, Instagram’s IGTV and Youtube’s video ads later confirmed that vertical video is here to stay.

Snapchat reported that it has 5x greater consumer engagement in terms of its’ swipe-ups compared to the click-through rates on most mobile ads after launching Snap Ads. A research conducted by Wibbitz also showed that there was a 130% rise in views and 4 times more engagement on Facebook after launching vertical videos.

Why vertical video?

Turning your phone horizontally to watch an episode of the Walking Dead is natural. However, when you come across a random one-minute trailer on Facebook, you probably prefer to stay vertical as it would be too bothersome to realign your device.

MediaBrix’s research confirmed that vertical videos have 90% higher completion rate than horizontal. Their data also showed that less than 30% of users tilt their phones horizontally to watch an ad and those who actually do only watch 14% of the ad.

It looks like vertical videos trends will persist. With that, Social PR pros and digital marketers are on guard to include vertical videos on top of their list. The folks at Breadnbeyond have compiled everything you need to know about how to incorporate vertical videos for your marketing strategy, so make sure to take a look at the infographic below.

12 Lit MobileMonkey Marketing Secrets For Every Brand

MobileMonkey

Do platforms such as MobileMonkey hold the secret to marketing success? If you’re looking for an eighty percent open rate, Facebook Messenger Marketing and Chatbots could be your answer.

In case you missed it, MobileMonkey scored the world’s largest Facebook Messenger and Chatbot summit with 10+ incredible social media marketing heavyweights. Larry Kim, Mari Smith, and Dennis Yu were just some the speakers who graced our screens to teach us the future of digital marketing: chatbots.

Didn’t have time to tune in? Or too busy to sift through all the eight plus hours of sessions  and speakers? Don’t worry, the Social PR Chat team curated the best tips and tricks from the entire event right here!

MobileMonkey: A Facebook Messenger Marketing Unicorn

Founded in 2017 , MobileMonkey is on the front end of the chatbot revolution, which is forecast to be a billion dollar industry in less than 10 years. Kim started MobileMonkey after “seeing the need for a product that enables marketers to engage with customers via mobile messaging platforms.”

According to Mindshare, 63% of people would consider messaging an online chatbot to communicate with a business or brand. Kim knew that chatbots would set up the next milestone to give businesses the opportunity to dramatically grow sales and leads, and so far, he has been right.

47% of consumers would buy items from a chatbot. (HubSpot, 2017)
37% of consumers would rather buy items via a company’s Facebook page than their website. (HubSpot, 2017)
By 2020, over 80% of businesses are expected to have some sort of chatbot automation implemented (Business Insider, 2016)MobileMonkey

Chatbot 101: What Are Chatbots?

Imagine drastically increasing sales, leads, sign-ups, and your client contact list through Facebook. We know, it must sound too good to be true. Imagine if I also told you it didn’t require hours of coding, days replying to each individual customer, and slowly losing your sanity?

Chatbots are computer programs that are designed to simulate conversation with human users, especially over the Internet. It is build to have a conversation in a natural language, understand the client’s intent and question, and answer based on a set of rules and guidelines set by an organization.

It may be hard to believe, but chatbots were first introduced as early as the 1960s. However, it’s 2018 that they are getting their time to shine with the drastic increase in text messaging applications and advances in language technology. According to eMarketer, more than a quarter of the world will be using messaging apps by 2019.

Chatbots allow for instant answers, 24-hour service, complaints to be quickly resolved and so much more. We are just scratching the surface with this incredible application, if you want to know even more about chatbots, check out MobileMonkey’s blog.

12 Chatbot Hacks From MobileMonkey Summit

Now that you are an expert in all things chatbot, let’s see what the experts say on how to best optimize and utilize chatbots to grow your business.

1.Relationship Marketing Through Digital Means

According to Mari Smith, messaging is what people are doing more than social media. Businesses need to be responsive through messaging and respond as a friend. One hack for this is to intercept your chatbots every so often to add a more human touch. If you want your chatbots to be successful, they need to be authentic.

2. Chatbot vs. Email

You do the math. Email marketing results in 5-10% open rates, while Facebook Messenger open rates range between 70-80% within the first hour. Add to the fact, Messaging is fundamentally less spammy and more engaging than email. Not only that, messaging provides instant answers when customers engage.

3. Content Hack

Facebook allows chatbots to engage with customers for 24 hours after customers initiate contact. The hack here from Kim is to focus on content that is more likely to elicit comments, such as yes or no questions. Once a customer has clicked yes or no, your 24 cycle begins over again and you can engage with that customer the entire period.

4. Short and Sweet? Nope!

One of the most not so obvious but crucial tips from the summit came from best selling author Isaac Rudansky. He recommends you should look at marketing messages as if you were talking to someone in person, don’t say anything you wouldn’t say in person to a customer’s face. Also, don’t be afraid to really talk about your products in long sentences, you don’t need to always be short. You are marketing to people interested in you, so they won’t be bored by what you have to say.

5. Customer Experience and Conversational Advertising

Samir ElKamouny founded Fetch and Funnel and increased revenue by 329% by utilizing Facebook Messenger. His tip for optimizing your funnel is to survey your customers by offering rewards and incentives. You have to learn why your customers are falling off. Once you know, you alter the experience to match what they want. Samir recommends designing a bot to help customers get the answers they need.

6. Get In Now

This may seem obvious, but as MobileMonkey’s Product Marketing Manager Dan Golder says, “it will never be easier or cheaper to get Facebook Messenger contacts than today.” Chatbots are new territory and the guidelines are ever changing. Those who invest in them now are early adopters and have a chance to significantly grow their lead lists.

7. Divide and Conquer

Business pages are first class citizens. Keep your profile page that is personal for you and don’t sell on it! Only sell on business pages. Have three entities at least, your personal page, your public figure page, and your business page.

8. Seven Is The Magic Number

Dennis Yu tells us consumers need seven touches to go from 1st touch to a conversion. Facebook Messenger marketing is great for top and middle of funnel touches because you obtain their contact information once and get touches in an effective way for free, which leads to sales.

9. Comment Guards Are King

Facebook algorithm marks “likes” for one point, “comments” for six points and “shares” for thirteen points while negative feedback is minus one hundred points. Comment Guard chatbots turn engaged commenters into lasting contacts, this helps to build brand awareness. Focus on gaining points with comments and driving those commenters to become loyal customers.

AR/VR Signs in Social Media and PR

virtual reality
What does Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Mean to Social Media? Cathy Hackl Tells All.

And the future is here. Virtual Reality (VR),  Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR) – these aren’t science fiction objects, these are the up and coming technologies that will change your world. We sat down with a pioneer in the enhanced reality industry, Cathy Hackl.

Virtual Reality, Voice, and Vision

Cathy Hackl is not only at the forefront of AR and VR technology, she is an author and Emmy-nominated communicator. She has her finger on the pulse of the ever growing and changing industry. Cathy started as a journalist and transitioned to public relations and social media 10 years ago.

Cathy Hackl is the Guy Kawasaki of #VR ⭐Female Disruptors: @CathyHackl is shaking up AR and VR https://t.co/WDhgdWoN6a via @thrive

— Lisa Buyer (@lisabuyer) August 31, 2018

Getting involved with live video (and being one of the first people on periscope) introduced her to VR. She views virtual reality as “the next iteration of storytelling”.

We asked her to explain in simple, tech-illiterate language what exactly all these realities really are. We already have enough on our plates with one reality, much less four!

Virtual Reality: “Virtual Reality creates new worlds. It creates an immersive, new experience that takes you out of the world.” These are experiences like ‘Clouds over Syria’, a VR experience that allowed for users to experience a refugee camp in Syria.
Augmented Reality: “Augmented Reality adds to your world, it adds a layer of digital effect or visualization on top of the real world.” Cathy pointed out that a game like Pokémon Go is a great example of AR.
Mixed Reality: “Mixed Reality is when you add VR and AR elements to your world and you are able to interact with them because they map your space and you can interact by moving and the spatial mapping reacts to it.” Essentially Mixed Reality technology takes into account what is going on in the world and where you are – for example, “If Pokemon Go used MR then Pikachu wouldn’t appear inside a table; he would know the table was there, and either appear next to it or on top of it.” Mindblown.

How To Get Involved in Virtual Reality and Social Media

The technology is still in its infancy. But there are multiple ways that even a complete novice can get involved and start learning how to utilize VR and AR technology:

Snapchat Lens Studio – Anyone can download Snapchat Lens Studio in order to create lens, filters, and 3D animations. You don’t even need to know how to code, very accessible.
Facebook AR Studio – This program is a little more complex than Snapchat Lens Studio, but still very accessible to new users. Facebook AR Studio has a partnership with Sketchpad to create 3D posts so that you can have a representation of what you are talking about – this application will eventually go into AR so that 3D posting can be mainstream.
Oculus Rift’s Quill –  Quill is a tool to create VR technology that works with Oculus Rift. It is touted as a bit more on the design/artistic side.
Amazon Sumerian – Anyone can get involved with Amazon Sumerian, similar to Snapchat Lens Studio and Facebook AR Studio, and use it to create AR/VR/3D content. However, it is a bit more complicated than the above, and therefore may be a little more challenging technically for a novice user.

Where Will We See VR/AR in The Workforce?

The short answer is everywhere.

Public Relations
Social Media
Gaming
Exhibition
Education
Design
Art
Scientific/Engineering Application

There are amazing opportunities to become an early expert in virtual reality. Right now is the time to get into VR. The industry is still forming but it will literally change the way that we interact with technology in every way; as Cathy puts it, VR/AR is “changing the future of content and the future of connection.”

The Business and Marketing Opportunities with Virtual Reality Are Endless

As the technology develops, anything we can do in real life will be replicable in VR/AR and eventually in MR, and by being digitally accessible it will mean you can do anything, with anyone, anywhere, anytime.

There are already many interesting applications.

A Salvador Dali museum has digitized a tour that you can go on virtually, using VR to visit.
NBC’s Left Field is using VR to bring relatively boring content to life.
Lisa Buyer is hosting online yoga and meditation classes through SacredVR, a VR social media site that seeks to create spiritual communities through VR applications and technology.
AltSpaceVR is a social media community that enables users to don VR avatars and meet up, play games, or attend virtual events together no matter how far apart they are.
Samsung has a VR headset platform that works with certain models of its mobile phones.
Google has a VR platform and multiple headset options. They are aiming at making the technology less expensive and more accessible.
Snapchat is betting on AR, they consider themselves a camera company now. AR will be huge for cameras in the future.
Facebook has Oculus, one of the biggest players in VR, and they are also doing a lot of work in advertising spaces with AR.

There are billions of dollars already at work to bring these technologies first to life and then to you.

If the biggest tech companies including Amazon, Samsung, Google, Facebook, and Snapchat have already bought in, what are you waiting for?!

Algorithms Abroad: In the beginning, social media was like the wild west. Brands were able to grow organically and deliver powerful, authentic content while doing so without worrying too much about pandering to algorithms. Nowadays, however, it is necessary to do so.
Strategize: Aside from the rare viral post, most content needs to be created within the framework of a strategy that takes into account current algorithms for social media and the platform’s strategy (i.e the thing about IG phasing out focus of the “last 9”).
Build better brands, not bigger brands: Current strategies stress focus on specific platforms to avoid user fatigue from being overloaded by options. This allows for a more specific, focused message, and avoids sending mixed signals on different platforms or causing your message to be confused. It’s better to be an ace on one social than a master of none.
Tools: Use tools that allow you to track engagement and tailor your content to your audience in ways that will capture their attention and call them to positive actions.
Voice: One of the most important skills a social media professional can utilize is the ability to capture a voice and maintain a consistent message. Practice and perfect this in your own social media presence, because where do you think prospective clients and employers will look first to see your skills?

So what if you’ve never worked in social media, but want to make a career shift? Aliza has you covered on that too.

#SocialPRSecrets… Having a portfolio of your work, real or not, is important.

I once interviewed this girl, she was a graphic design candidate, she came in to show me her portfolio and she had worked for Tiffany and Co. and Benefit and this amazing creative. Then she told me that she had never worked with those brands, she just wanted a portfolio when interviewing with a brand to showcase potentiality and skill sets using iconic brand imagery, logos, different variations of logos.

Social PR Secrets Interview:

Aliza Licht Social PR Secrets

We grabbed our favorite red lipstick and sat down with Aliza Licht today to discuss her top Social PR Secrets and how she used Twitter to make her PR fashion statement. We delved into the knowledge she gained through her career from launching the DKNY PR Girl persona to where she is today. Her focus on the intersection of fashion, digital marketing and social media has been the cornerstone for her success and we were dying to learn just how she does it all!

Aliza Licht Social Media Lessons

For almost seventeen years, Aliza has focused on the creation of the global brand strategy for Donna Karan and DKNY.  As the anonymous Twitter personality DKNY PR GIRL, she amassed more than 1.5 million followers across all social media platforms (I know, we are jealous too!). Don’t go searching for the popular handle though, it’s all been deleted. When Aliza stepped down from her position as the Senior Vice President of Global Communications, the Twitter account was changed to DKNY. The PR girl secrets didn’t end there, she went on to write Leave Your Mark, a book that gives you tips on how to land your dream job, kill it in your career, and rock social media.
