I love this question.

If you asked me for couples from television shows it would be easy to answer. There are so many entertaining couples, e.g. Ralph and Alice Kramden from the Honeymooners, Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, Frank Burns and Hotlips Houlihan from M.A.S.H., etc. I enjoy farce that explores the relationships between couples. Television sitcoms provide plenty of that.

The following two couples immediately came to mind when I first read your question:

Frank and April Wheeler from Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates
Dick and Nicole Diver from Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Why are they my favorite couples?

Their stories are heartbreaking. After I finished the books, I wondered what happened to the main characters, and I wished them well. I don't think I will ever forget them. They are now a part of me. (less)

Why do we keep coming back for more?

I guess we can’t help it. We have to do it. If we don’t do it, no one will ever know what is inside.
