If you asked me for couples from television shows it would be easy to answer. There are so many entertaining couples, e.g. Ralph and Alice Kramden from the Honeymooners, Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, Frank Burns and Hotlips Houlihan from M.A.S.H., etc. I enjoy farce that explores the relationships between couples. Television sitcoms provide plenty of that.

The following two couples immediately came to mind when I first read your question:

Frank and April Wheeler from Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates
Dick and Nicole Diver from Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Why are they my favorite couples?

Their stories are heartbreaking. After I finished the books, I wondered what happened to the main characters, and I wished them well. I don't think I will ever forget them. They are now a part of me. (less)

Right now, I am immersed in gardening and chicken-related books. I dip into the following two books frequently:

Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens by Gail Damerow
The Garden Primer by Barbara Damrosch

Once the baby chickens are out of the brooder and into the coop, and the garden is planted, I will pick out my books for the summer.

This might be a good time to regroup, to start over, to get going,  to wake up early, and to rejoin the race.

It’s been over a year and I’m long overdue. Maybe the sunshine this morning did it. Or maybe it is because I woke up early, and tossed and turned until I had no choice but to tiptoe out of the bedroom, into the darkness of the quiet house.

Well, here I am, punching the plastic, waiting...

What an eerie and timely book! I loved the first two thirds, but for some reason the second half of the book didn't live up to its initial promise. I still enjoyed it, and I highly recommend The Circle, for both Luddites and techhnophiles.

Reading Proust was hard work for me, but well worth the effort. Frequently, I read a sentence and had to stop and reread it, over and over, trying to commit it to memory. He is a master with words. He also creates unforgettable characters. Even thoug ...more
