Roane has something for everyone's tastes. From dragons to sexy cowboys, pirates to mysterious supernatural cr...

A word of thanks to the Millbrook Literary Festival Committee
(L-R) Anna Paret, finalist; Scott's wife Alison Meyer; Ray Fashona, winner; author and judge Valerie Martin;
Festival Chair Sam Falk; and Finalist Laurie Treacy.Writing is such a solitary art. When the voices inside my head insisted that I write down what they had to say, I finally gave in and decided to pursue writing stories and books for young adults and children. So after 13 years of working for a Westchester weekly newspaper, I exchanged fact for fiction.
But in order to make writin...

Some very nice news
Last month I received word that I was a finalist for the Scott Meyer Award. Read about it
here
. After getting over my complete shock at finding out someone liked my YA paranormal short story, The Haunting Season, I felt incredibly honored. You see, I'm a firm believer that we meet people for a reason. I first met Mr. Meyer when I attended a Writing YA workshop given by the wonderful author K.L. Going at Merritt Books. For many years, Scott has been a staple in Millbrook, a figure who stood fo...

Common sense
There are times to keep silent and times to speak up/speak out. This is one of those times to use our voices. I've wondered about a topic for quite some time: writers writing for FREE for a company that makes millions of $$$. That's not something I'd do (I've only volunteered my time and work for small companies and non-profits). I'm glad that big writers are addressing this issue. The solution is easy: PAY THE WRITERS.
