As has often been said 'the art of writing is the art of applying the seat of the pants to the seat of a chair for a sufficiently long period of time'. Thereafter, one just has to move the fingers. The first few words of the day are often the hardest, but once the grey matter has started to fire, it is surprising just where ideas can come from out of the blue. The secret is simply to get started. It is also important to give oneself sufficient thinking time - just sit quietly, without distraction, empty your mind and wait for the thoughts to move in. I often find going for a walk in the countryside away from noise and people is another good ploy for receiving new ideas.(less)
