I am an Independent. I write mostly creative nonfiction and literary fiction set in American cities at the turn of the millennium. Chicago and NYC and San Francisco. 1990-2010. Lovers, dreamers, loners, scribblers, and latchkey kids. Predating the mobile phone. In 2013 I got off my ass and self-published my first novel, Girl Without Borders, a love triangle gone bad. Then I wrote a trilogy starring a girl with psychic powers. Currently I am putting finishing touches on a novella about 4 friends in Chicago, 1999, who are coming apart at the seams. I hold a BA in Literature from Northwestern University and an MA in Psychology from JFK University. I would like to thank Goodreads for helping press my work into the public imagination. Sometimes I need to change directions, work on a different aspect, begin writing something completely off topic. Turn to journalling or blogging or poetry. Switch channels. Go for a walk. i had a nightmare and woke up and drank some water and when i fell back asleep it turned into a dream. you can try but you cannot force things, you may even suffer if you do. you cannot push yourself into a personality. it's okay to learn new things about yourself. it's okay to wanna change. if you feel unsatisfied or unhappy, you gotta find what it is you are fighting and stop. best to accept... A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood
“Think of two people, living together day after day, year after year, in this small space, standing elbow to elbow cooking at the same small stove, squeezing past each other on the narrow stairs, shaving in front of the same small bathroom mirror, constantly jogging, jostling, bumping against each other’s bodies by mistake or on purpose, sensually, aggressively, awkwardly, impatiently, in rage or in love – think what deep though invisible tracks they must leave, everywhere, behind them!”

“It's a god-eat-god world" - katya”

“Now I happened to be there, in the chewy maelstrom of his life, by his side. He taught me how to live in this fucked up environment. East Oakland. How to deal with the people. Which ones to avoid. The new currency was trading out what you have for what you need. And then maybe trading up for what you want. The new time was not told by the sun. Light or no light, we lived as things happened. I would soon realize there was no other way.”
Katya Mills, Grand Theft Life

“None of us really changes over time. We only become more fully what we are.”
Anne Rice, The Vampire Lestat

Thomas Mann

“Always mystify, torture, mislead, and surprise the audience as much as possible.”
Don Roff
