I like reading non-fiction (biography, history) and fictional crime/legal novels. I do most of my reading by listening to audiobooks from my local public library through the OverDrive app, and on a Kindle Oasis.

I started listening to audiobooks in earnest this year in January. I use OverDrive, connected to my local public library, for free audiobooks. My stats for 2014:

91 books read
33,274 pages

There is so much wrong with this book. First, it's boring. Second, there are very long "action scenes" that basically consist of software engineers doing coding ... and that was just painful to read. Third, none of the characters are sympathetic, so ...more

This was interesting if for no other reason than to appreciate how incredibly intelligent Eleanor was, particularly given the time period, and the then-role of women in society. Her insight into a wide range of issues is amazing, and really shows the ...more

“Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”

Simon Sinek
“Great companies don’t hire skilled people and motivate them, they hire already motivated people and inspire them. People are either motivated or they are not. Unless you give motivated people something to believe in, something bigger than their job to work toward, they will motivate themselves to find a new job and you’ll be stuck with whoever’s left.”
Simon Sinek, Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action

Cheryl Strayed
“What if I forgave myself? I thought. What if I forgave myself even though I'd done something I shouldn't have? What if I was a liar and a cheat and there was no excuse for what I'd done other than because it was what I wanted and needed to do? What if I was sorry, but if I could go back in time I wouldn't do anything differently than I had done? What if I'd actually wanted to fuck every one of those men? What if heroin taught me something? What if yes was the right answer instead of no? What if what made me do all those things everyone thought I shouldn't have done was what also had got me here? What if I was never redeemed? What if I already was?”
