If a publication is paying you, you walk into your office and sit down in front of your screen, put your fingers on the keyboard and start. If you can't, you'll find yourself out of job PDQ.
I'll admit, sometimes it's harder to get going than others, but if you approach your writing as your job, you just do it.
This question puts me in mind of a story I heard about someone who asked the mystery writer Lee Child about writer's block. His answer was blunt: writing was his job. Lorry drivers, he said, couldn't show up at a warehouse and say to their bosses they weren't "feeling" it that day. If you want to be a writer, you have to write. If you succumb to "writer's block," maybe you're not suited to the field. (less)
