Hocus Pocus on ABC Action News

If you live in the Tampa Bay area, you may have seen us on television this morning. This is just a small "slice," but I'll post the interview in its entirety when I get it.

Shout out to Jillian Ramos and her team from ABC Action News - WFTS - Tampa Bay for the wonderful interview. It was a blast!

Who Needs Taylor Swift When You Have Hocus Pocus Comics?

The library 2023 tour continues with Hocus Pocus Comics joining the Citrus County Comics & Cosplay convention, C4Con, at the Homosassa Public Library on Saturday, September 23, 2023, 9AM – 3PM. This convention is a fun-filled day with tons of crafts, prizes, and games. Dwight and I will be leading a panel on the importance of graphic novels in the classroom, as well discussing our journey as indie publishers—not about our exes! :)

Faithful Readers,

Who knows where the time goes? It has been a minu...

The Great American Teach In

The Great American Teach In happened last week in Lakeland. Hocus Pocus Comics was able to speak with students at two schools: Sikes Elementary and Wagner Elementary, on November 17th and 18th—both mornings were full of presentations to several 4th grade classes. Polk County Public Schools Students First program had a great line-up for that day, and we are honored to be among several incredible Lakeland businesses:

Honeycomb Bakery

Swan City Improv

Lakeland Parks & Recreation

Lakeland Symphony Or...

Is That Me?!

Have you ever felt that you have a Doppelganger? My sister sent me this image in an email from Wells Fargo, and I have to say I sat down in shock when I saw the photo. It is uncanny how similar this woman is to myself,  yet I know I have not been moonlighting for the company, and I have not been that skinny since before I got married!

It recalled that Twilight Zone episode, Mirror Image, which always freaks me out whenever I see it because a similar incident happened to me during my high school ...

The End is Near!

Frodo and Sam from Lord of the Rings, Harry, Ron, and Hermione from Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. There is no shortage of famous friendships in literature. We hope that the friendship between Irving Rat and Little Eddie from The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe will also stand the test of time.

The final pages from Book 3 were turned in this weekend and we can't tell you how thrilled we are that the world will soon be able to read the conclusion of our epic tale. With breath...

National Book Lovers Day Was Extra Special This Year!

One of our stretch goals for The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe Kickstarter campaign was to collect the webcomic Terra Somnium, into print form. We wanted to be able to bring this prequel to light, and our supporters helped make that happen!

Every time I tend to get discouraged being an independent publisher, it's moments like this when the box gets opened and there you are with your story in your hands and that makes it all worth it! The feeling never gets old!

Indies, you keep doing what y...

Hocus Pocus Comics in Classrooms

I cannot begin to express how thrilled we are to be included in educator Tim Smyth's new book, Teaching With Comics and Graphic Novels! Congratulations to Tim on this momentous achievement. I hope educators around the world will read the book and use it in their classrooms. It's been wonderful watching academia embrace comics, and it's high time they were accepted by the educational world at large as an invaluable educational tool. Thank you, Tim, for leading the charge!

It Was A Dark and Stormy Night...

Good Evening!

Earlier in the day, I posted a video about this book which you can view HERE. I can't even begin to express how excited I am to read this book:

The Trial of Lotta Rae, by Siobhan MacGowan.

As I mentioned in the video, the minute I saw this book come up on Google, my mind went back to that night in Dublin- to that intimate party full of music, fireplaces, good port, lashing rain, and storytelling. I was captivated by Siobhan's voice, and how she seamlessly went from one story to the ne...

Hanging Out at The Gates of Hell

Last night, Rebecca and I had a chance to hang out at the Gates of Hell. Well, kind of. The Polk Museum of Art has a Rodin exhibit, and it is extraordinary! In addition to sections of Rodin's magnum opus, The Gates of Hell, we also saw several of his bronze works. We were pretty blown away by just how many pieces they had, honestly. Rodin's Gates of Hell was inspired by Dante's Inferno... just as my graphic novel, ELEVATOR. For this reason, I was very happy to be able to see so many pieces from ...
