Agona Apell believes that hardware without software leads nowhere. It is this belief that inspires him to devote his writings to illuminating the software that governs success in everyday life. Agona was born into a middle class Ugandan family, and in a higher education spanning eleven years studied Civil Engineering, Education, and Construction Management. It was through this eclectic mix of courses that he came into intimate contact with physics, psychology, philosophy, and economics, the four great disciplines that influence all his writing. Allied with this education in his writings, is his uncommon familiarity with lives spanning the whole spectrum of fortune, which he gained through his personal experience as a civil engineer working ...more

That is my strategy for dealing with writer's block: I retreat over a few chapters and begin my run; if the ideas come then I take my leap into the next chapter. If they don't, then I find a diversion, only thinking of my work once in a while. If this also doesn't work, I repeat the entire routine. (less)

Nelson Mandela: Many stumbles, no mumbles

Each time I raise my gaze to the night sky,
A million stars stare back, shedding happy tears of light.
And I cannot but stare back in delight,
Wondering which one of them holds your great soul.
Tell me, Old Nelson, do they--these stars--still shine upon
you?

Heaven should grant that they do;
For like them your example still shines upon us, pointing
to us the true north of life--
And, oh yes, this one... Read more of this blog post »

“If man evolved spontaneously from nothingness to flesh then man must be immortal. Why? Well, man in his development from nothingness to substance did not exist in a controlled environment and so lay prone to countless assaults from elements of his coarse environment. To preserve his viability, he had to ride materially unscathed through all those assaults. So it is reasonable to expect that man must be immune to destruction by all malevolent forces whose vicious tackles he stumbled through in the course of his development from cell to flesh. For how can he in the stoutness of maturity be susceptible to destruction by blows that he absorbed without peril in his infancy?”

“One of the great pains of peace is to see the heroes of a thousand battles retreat to a thousand bottles at the doctor's and the barman's. In the snares of alcoholism and PTSD, they who survived the battlefield now fall in the bottle-field.”
