What I do when I get temporarily stuck is, I get up and go and do something completely different for a couple of hours; perhaps I watch some sport, potter around in the garden or go shopping with the wife!
When I get back to writing it's a lot easier to pick up the thread and get on with things than if you sit and stare at the blank page for hours on end.
The other tip I would give is, stick to writing about things that are in your comfort zone, then at least you can be confident that you know what you're writing about. If you need to include something you know absolutely nothing about, don't try to 'wing it', do loads of research, make copious notes and then the battle is already partly won!(less)

If it’s verbally, face to face, then that’s fine and I enjoy that too; however, I can reach more people with the written word and long after I’m gone the books I’ve managed to get finished will be available somewhere, for anyone who wishes to read them. I don’t have a ‘message’ to get across; I’m simply a storyteller. Being a writer allows me to tell stories.(less)

Still Standing

Back in June 2018, I had published my eighteenth title and decided to pause for breath. For almost six years, I’d written books in a genre I loved reading. Although I’d enjoyed the experience, and met a lot of great people along the way (authors, bloggers, reviewers, and a few ..Continue Reading

Well-written, for a debut novel, this errs on the side of style over substance. The descriptive passages, of which there are many, demonstrate the writer's skill, but the characters are shallow and don't encourage the reader to root fo

No harm, no foul, with this first in series. The plot was complex. The characters, setting and dialogue were Scottish enough to make things even more confusing. Was it gripping, or page-turning? Not really. It rolled along at a steady pa
