“The core message in all my novels is that today justice is not being served. The Phoenix believes criminals should pay for their crimes; the current system fails to deliver the correct punishment. Olympus agents help him redress the balance. Life is all about balance, isn’t it? Good and evil, love and loss, laughter and tears.”

“I think of myself as a storyteller; with each successive book, I hope I get better at it. What I’ve been told is that the reader feels as if we’re sat across the table from one another, and I’m chatting with them. There’s always a rich vein of material for me to include in my books from news headlines. There are more stories left to tell.”

If it’s verbally, face to face, then that’s fine and I enjoy that too; however, I can reach more people with the written word and long after I’m gone the books I’ve managed to get finished will be available somewhere, for anyone who wishes to read them. I don’t have a ‘message’ to get across; I’m simply a storyteller. Being a writer allows me to tell stories.(less)

What I do when I get temporarily stuck is, I get up and go and do something completely different for a couple of hours; perhaps I watch some sport, potter around in the garden or go shopping with the wife!
When I get back to writing it's a lot easier to pick up the thread and get on with things than if you sit and stare at the blank page for hours on end.
The other tip I would give is, stick to writing about things that are in your comfort zone, then at least you can be confident that you know what you're writing about. If you need to include something you know absolutely nothing about, don't try to 'wing it', do loads of research, make copious notes and then the battle is already partly won!(less)

I love reading books by authors who clearly love the genre in which they write. Everything feels 'right' about the stories they give us. This felt like it was by an accomplished writer targeting a niche market that currently seems to be in

At no point did I feel engaged with the main characters. There was something about the writing style and switching point of view that kept me unsettled. I had to keep checking whose story I was following. Not for me.

I always enjoy a good police procedural. Calladine and Bayliss are a good team. The only concern I had with this one was the rather too convenient events which resolved what might have been problematic situations.

I hadn't read anything by Diane Capri before. I'd heard of her, but legal dramas aren't my thing. I chose to read this because it was a sampler. I got a taste of what her characters were about and what all the fuss was about.
