If taking a college fencing class, eating from the trash can, and smelling like an animal were qualifications for becoming a sword-swinging barbarian, J. D. Brink might be Conan’s protégé. Instead, he’s served aboard a warship in the Pacific, collected intel from foreign submarines, stood watch hungover behind a .50-caliber machinegun, and worked over patients at a hospital in Kuwait. Today (winter, 2017) he and his family are stationed in Japan, where he’s providing a bad example for all Americans.

Brink’s fictional adventures take place in the Identity Crisis superhero universe, Endless Dark sci-fi universe, and Thunderstrike Saga fantasy realm, to name a few. Learn more and sign up for his “Conspiracy Theory Newsletter” at BrinksChaosThe

I'm actually hoping to produce chapter one on Twilight of the Gods tomorrow. A little behind due to a three month hiccup for military deployment. Ultimately ended up not going, so now I'm back home and ready to dive back into it! (less)

Today I'm 25 pages shy of completing the second draft on my superhero-zombie novel Hungry Gods. Here's the blurb:
"The country’s premier superhero team is missing. So when a mutant monstrosity goes on the rampage, it’s Spitball to the rescue! He’s a third-string hero today, determined to be first-string tomorrow. And the Army may be giving him just the chance he needs. He’s been invited to undertake a secret mission into America’s heartland. What he’s about to discover, however, is not a chance at stardom but a horror movie come to life...
Hungry Gods is a fast-paced adventure of costumed superheroes, government conspiracy theories, and flesh-eating zombies."

Despite the recent chaos and ego beating of my present job searching situation, I managed to start on the next book today!

I was thinking the other day to blog about how hard it is to get started.

“A beginning,” the Princess Irulin told us in the first line of 1984’s Dune movie, “is a very delicate time.”

And despite all your mental preparation, squeezing out the beginnings of a...

J.D. Brink is reading Dauntless: A good read, quality military SF. My only disappointment is that the story doesn't end here and you likely have to read several books to get the the end. Which is great if you plan to do that, not so great if you don't.

This was actually more simplistic than I expected. Really written in the style of oral myth tradition. Which is to say, without a lot of detail or dialogue. But nonetheless fast and fun. It was great to get some of the authentic stories of old. A gre ...more
