I never intended to be a full time writer, but stories sometimes just pop into my head. The writing came about as a way to get the stories out. Nothing is ever the same. The poem was from first hand experiences on a wildland fire. My horse's story is a memoir of 23 years of my life with my favorite horse. Any other stories are just stories that come to me in my sleep and make me want to write them down.

A writing prompt with the first line and last line. The first line was:
"He woke up in the dark, his feet were cold."
The last line was:
"The hot air balloons were still visible in the distance."
The goal was to make the two sentences related and create a story from them. Well I'm about 9000 words into the story and it's shaping up very nicely now.(less)

Oh those Prairie Dogs (Poetry)
1 chapters   —   updated Feb 03, 2013 07:18PM
Description: I used to work as a wildland firefigher. On one fire, our camp was setup in a pasture that contained a large prairie dog town. All the heavy equipment caused cave-ins of the prairie dog burrows and dead prairie dogs started showing up on the surface. This poem is my interpretation of the events that followed the discovery of the dead prairie dogs.

William Shakespeare
“When I bestride him, I soar, I am a hawk: he trots the air; the earth sings when he touches it; the basest horn of his hoof is more musical than the pipe of Hermes. ”
William Shakespeare, Henry V

Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down like a game of solitaire. It is a grand passion. It seizes a person whole and once it has done so, he/she will have to accept that his life will be radically changed.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

“In riding a horse, we borrow freedom”
Helen Thompson

Robert Frost
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.”
Robert Frost, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Rita Mae Brown
“The only queer people are those who don't love anybody.”
Rita Mae Brown

A.L. Okay everyone, get ready for a new release and Giveaways!
Soaring Hearts by A.L. Boyd Soaring hearts will be coming out in e-book format on September 25th. It's all uploaded and ready to go live. You can pre-order and have it delivered as soon as it's official. Also, one of the minor characters in the book was inspired by a good friend of mine. He wanted a print copy, so that's what he's getting. Soaring Hearts will be available in paperback, and there will be a Goodreads giveaway starting on September 29th for five author signed paperback copies.
Crest Ridge by A.L. Boyd Crest Ridge was also formatted in paperback and there will be a giveaway for five signed copies of it as well.
Enjoy!
