As a child, I was often kept up at night by an overactive imagination. When I got to college, I decided to study writing so I could put that imagination to better use. I am an avid reader and rarely let a week go by without finishing at least two books. I love the way that books allow passage into other people's thoughts and let me see how they view the world. I've read a lot of them and love most, but when I came up with the idea for The Durand Duology I was getting tired of always reading the same plot. I was talking about books with my sister, she reads all sorts of stories as well. We were looking for something different to read and couldn't find anything. That's when I started talking about writing a book where the plot doesn't follow the path a reader would expect. I wanted to write something that would take readers by surprise. I certainly hope I managed it. (less)
