Out with the old and in with the new!

Happy New Year!

Yep it’s that day of the year. . . The day of lounging, snoozing, regretting that extra glass of wine and working out just what exactly one plans to do with the whole year ahead. A whole year! A fresh start! A new beginning. . . Or if you are a cynic like me, exactly the same crap as last year but under the title ‘Crap for 2014!’

No, I am only teasing, I of all people know just how much your life can change in a one year. This time last year I was sitting on a novel that no one wanted to publish let alone read. In the space of one year the novel has not only been published but people actually love it and enjoy it and I have managed to write it’s sequel and a whole lot more.

Last year I was wondering if I would ever meet people who I could become friends with and share my passion of writing with. This year I have so many new friends to talk books and writing with its impossible to keep track of my conversations with everyone – and I love them all.

Last year I started the year a little bit on the plump side due to eating and drinking too much over Christmas. This year, oh bugger, that one’s still the same!

So you see what I mean, I could label this year as ‘ Crap for 2014′ or I could embrace it, chuck out the old, bring in the new and see just what amazing things I can achieve with the help of my friends and family.

Happy new year everyone and thank you so much for your support over the last twelve months it wouldn’t have been possible without you!xxx

The Art of Forgiving

The Art of Forgiving has released today, and for fans of Lilah McCannon and Ben Chambers, it is a must read add-on to The Art of Letting Go.

Retelling Christmas Day from Year One from Ben's Pov, it fills us all in on what went down that day. No Christmas Day is complete without a game of scrabble, mince pies, tearful sing songs and over cooked turkey.

I hope you all enjoy Christmas, Ben and Lilah style.

The Saving of Benjamin Chambers – Sneak Peek

Image

One week to go until The Uni Files Short – The Saving of Benjamin Chambers is released, causing Kindles and knickers to explode the world over.

The Saving of Benjamin Chambers is a prequel to The Art of  Letting Go retelling the first time Ben meets Lilah. Ben has far more to say on the matter then Lilah ever did, but that’s because she can’t remember the event due to excessive alcohol consumption. . . Way’d it go Lilah!

Just to get everyone ready, here is a sneak peek from the man himself, and as always with my writing there is a song to go with it. Thankfully my boyfriend Brandon Flowers is completely in tune with me and released this amazing video for “Just Another Girl” in time for Ben’s release.

I so wish I could post the cover art now, but I am holding out for Friday. (It’s the biggest secret I have ever kept I’ve only shown it to three people – which is a miracle in itself.)

The Excerpt

We are just coming back from our break when I catch sight of her again. I actually drop my guitar.

Delilah, Lilah or whatever she is called is, standing over on the far side of the room, her back against the wall wearing a figure-hugging red, floor-length dress. Her dark hair and eyes stand out in contrast. She looks like a Forties movie star, all curves and perfect poise, watching everyone with a critical eye. She hates this place and she hates the people that are here, that is clear to me straight away.

I want to jump off the stage to get to her. I can’t tear my eyes away, even though Dave has picked up my guitar and shoved it back into my hands, hissing, “play, you idiot.”

I am walking to the front of the stage still staring when I notice that I am being watched but not by her.

Some guy who looks like a pretentious arsehole is watching me watch her and then he starts to move across the floor to get to her before I can leave the stage. I am stuck like a rabbit in headlights, rooted to the spot as I watch him clearly move towards her like he is proving he has ownership.

When he gets to her he pulls her in close and winds his hands around her waist. I have to physically restrain myself from leaping off the stage and punching him. That’s what I want to do, a deep urge burning inside me. Jump from the stage, bop him on the nose, hopefully causing significant blood loss, and then throw her over my shoulder and march her off with her someplace. Someplace where I can kiss her and talk to her, in no particular order. Then I may well ask her to marry me because I am pretty sure that I want to.

I don’t though, I don’t move from my spot on the edge of the stage. I start to play my guitar instead but not the song the rest of the band are expecting. Luckily it has a long intro so they are able to catch up.

As I start to sing ‘Wonderwall’ I watch as the banker wanker twirls her onto the dance floor.

It’s not a song for twirling, what is he doing the bloody arse?

She has her hands on his shoulders and her back to me but I can clearly see an enormous diamond ring sitting on her left hand from my spot quite a distance away on stage.

Damn it to hell.

I nearly stop singing, but I hold it together and as I head into the second verse my choice of song becomes even more appropriate.

The banker wanker pulls her in even tighter and I get a nasty taste in the back of my mouth. I am just in the middle of the chorus when they take a turn and I catch a glimpse of her face.

That’s what does it. That very moment gives me something completely different to live for.

Her.

The Art of Forgiving

ImageOfficially introducing the second Uni File short story to be released in December. The Art of Forgiving is Christmas Day from Year One: The Art of Letting Go, retold from Ben Chamber’s perspective.

Just what did happen the day of the Turkey Stalemate, the Midnight Dinner and the one day that Benjamin Chambers had to win back the girl of his dreams..

Blurb

Benjamin Chambers found the girl, won the girl, and then lost the girl all in two months. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t that girl. The one that had already got away once.

Left to his own devices, wallowing in self-pity, drinking whiskey and killing ballads on his guitar Ben is looking forward to the worst Christmas in history. That is until an unexpected offer of help arrives.

It’s coming soon…watch this space

Scene stealing song

I am working on my secret project like a demented person at the moment, mainly because I have promised that I am going to take two weeks off over Christmas (?) I am working on a full second draft of an idea I have been playing with, so that come January I can start the edit. I so want to tell everyone about it, but at the same time I also want to keep it to myself for a little longer. All I am going to say is it’s not The Uni Files.

So anyway, last night I was writing this scene and it made me get really emotional. Crying at my computer is nothing new to me, but I think it might have been the song I was listening too as I wrote.

I love this track, always have, and last night it completely stole the scene I was writing.

Make sure you listen right to the end.
