Published in 2014. Danny Goodman is a writer, but the advance he’d received for his next book has run out and the book isn’t even close to being finished. In addition, his daughter attends a private school, the Lyman Academy, and he’s behind on paying the hefty fee for his daughter to attend. His daughter, Abby, has become best friends with Jenna, who’s from a family who can afford anything it wants. Danny meets Jenna’s parents and understands why his daughter’s so attracted to them.

Tom Galvin, Jenna’s dad, is a successful investor with money, a large house, a chauffeur-driven limousine, and a great family. Tom is grateful for Abby’s friendship for Jenna because she’s had so much trouble adjusting in the past. He pays for Abby’s summer trip to Italy, just so Jenna has someone to be with. He knows Danny is in a financial bind and offers to loan him $50,000 to help him pay for school and other expenses. Danny accepts and his problems begin. The DEA has tracked the electronic payment to his account and squeeze Danny for information. Danny wants nothing to do with it, but they threaten him with life imprisonment. Caught between a rock and a hard place, Danny agrees.

There are a lot of twists and turns in this plot that kept me in suspense as I read this novel. Of the novels I’ve read by this author, this is the best. If you like thrillers, this will keep you on the edge of your seat and you’ll feel for Danny all along the way.
