Published in 2018. Attorney Dismas (Diz) Hardy is in his office when he gets a call from Abby Jarvis. She was a former client of his in a DUI case. She was found guilty and spent five years in jail. Upon release, she found a good job as a bookkeeper, but she’d just been arrested for the murder of the owner of the company, Grant Wagner. Diz heads to the Hall of Justice to see her and is convinced of her innocence. However, he’s not sure he wants to take on a murder case as he approaches retirement. He agrees to take on her case in the beginning because there’s no time to select another lawyer. He gets the judge to agree to a delay for a week to hear his argument for a bail hearing. Diz has a week to make a decision. The best way out of this case is to find the real perpetrator, but where to begin?

This is the author’s twenty-eighth book and this is the first one I’ve read. I’ll look for the rest. I enjoyed reading it although I must admit I figured out who did it before anyone else did. I don’t know, call it a gut feeling. You know how it is. At any rate, a nice mystery novel with good characters that I empathized with.
