To be truthful ~~ All the time!!! I have suffered author envy while reading dozens and dozens of novels. Great books with plot twists that totally floored me, and with amazing writing.

February 1 question - If you are an Indie author, do you make your own covers or purchase them? If you publish trad, how much input do you have about what goes on your cover?
The very first impression of a book is the cover. So, I believe it's important to have an excellent one!
I'm an indie author, and I have an awesome cover artist: Melissa Stevens of The Illustrator and Design. And, the formatted interiors are amazing too!

January 4 question - Do you have a word of the year? Is there one word that sums up what you need to work on or change in the coming year? For instance, in 2021 my word of the year was Finish. I was determined to finished my first draft by the end of the year. In 2022, my word of the year is Ease. I want to get my process, systems, finances, and routines where life flows with ease and less chaos. What is your word for 2023? Why?
I don't have a word for the year. And trying to think of just 1 word, I find many words shoving and pushing together to form a mangled complicated web. LOL.

December 7 question - It's holiday time! Are the holidays a time to catch up or fall behind on writer goals?
During the Holidays, I rarely find time to write a word. My WIP has been simmering on the back burner for months. My muse has dried up a bit, and I'm hoping the New Year will bring inspiration.

Reviews, for an author, are very appreciative and can be kind of scary. I love readers, especially if they take the time to review. Some are critical. Some are glowing. Writers can learn from them. Yet, sometimes when I read those reviews, it boggles my mind.
Below are a couple of mind bogglers... (sorry I couldn't enlarge the print, you'll need a magnifying glass) The reviews are for the same book: The Upside Down of Nora Gaines which I put on NetGalley.
The 1st reviewer says it 'reads as middle grade', and the 2nd reviewer 'definitely recommends this book for 16+.' LOL!
We can all read the same book and come away with differing perspectives.
For those of you who are in the midst of beginning your writing career and/or publishing for the first time, learn to roll with the punches.
Not every book is a persons 'cup of tea.'

My quick answer: Magical Realism. I tried writing MR a while back, and it always turns into Fantasy. LOL.

August 3 question: When you set out to write a story, do you try to be more original or do try to give readers what they want?
I never write what's big in the reader's market, so to say. If I do, it's a coincidence. I write what I enjoy writing. When I begin a new story, I never know where it's going to take me. Though, I tend to veer toward YA/fantasy. Even when I write mysteries, a bit of supernatural wiggles its way in.
