Maja is a South African/Croatian writer. She spent her childhood in South Africa and her late teenage years in Croatia. She then spent some time hopping between Africa and Europe, before finally deciding to settle down by the Adriatic coast. Her lifestyle has allowed her to gain varied insights about life from different people and places. She has many interests, which come through in her work.

Her first book, the 360 Degree Heart - a poetic anthology, was published in July 2013, followed by her second anthology, Expressions of Humanity, in December 2013. There's a song by Sting called Englishman in New York.  I altered the lyrics a bit to come up with South African in Europe.  To make it work though, one would have to say the word Europe in an African accent (so "yu-rop", emphasis on the "rop").  Here is the original song:

And here is a Sax rendition without the lyrics.  So imagine this Sax rendition... Read more of this blog post »

A lovely tale. The story is told almost as a biography so one wonders which of the events are true and which are fiction. It was a pleasure to read.

John Lennon
“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”
John Lennon

Winston S. Churchill
“Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.”
Winston S. Churchill

Frank McCourt
“You might be poor, your shoes might be broken, but your mind is a palace.”
Frank McCourt, Angela's Ashes

Ted Hughes
“The only calibration that counts is how much heart people invest, how much they ignore their fears of being hurt or caught out or humiliated. And the only thing people regret is that they didn't live boldly enough, that they didn't invest enough heart, didn't love enough. Nothing else really counts at all.”
Ted Hughes, Letters of Ted Hughes

J.K. Rowling
“If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
