I've been writing stories since I was twelve years old, but it was studying archaeology, especially prehistory, that really sparked my creativity. Working on excavations allows me to touch (pre)history in a very direct way, but to fit the pieces of the puzzle together, to reconstruct the missing parts of people's long-forgotten lives is something I love just as much. This inspired me to write my prehistoric children's novels. And I'm not done writing yet!

There has been so much amazing research lately that has the potential to completely change the way we see these people, that I strongly felt I wanted to contribute to this change. Neanderthals have been - and still are - mostly imagined as hairy, grunting half-apes, but with all this new knowledge I think it's finally time to admit it: they were simply humans. Most of us even carry up to 4% of neanderthal-DNA! It's interesting stuff to dig into, and a real but fun challenge to make this story different from all the neanderthal stories that have gone before.(less)
