100 Things I Did In 2021
Dearests,
I always love when Austin Kleon writes his 100 Things list for the year. I shared my first list last year, and adored it so much I thought I’d do it again.
100 Things I made, did or appreciated in 2021.
I quit social media. It was life changing.Did a bunch of abstract acrylic painting.Read over 200 books.Spent my birthday in magical Montville with my family.Did a pinboard DIY project again with my kid… 11 years apart.Partied like it was 1999 with my friends in my favourite B&B.Created my Work Less, Earn More program.Binge watched Bridgerton in one weekend. It was DELICIOUS.Henceforth, watched Bridgerton on the overhead TV everytime I went to the dentist. I swear it’s the best pain relief known to humankind.Started doing private pilates sessions at Noosa Flow. Afterwards, I go to my favourite bookstore cafe The River Read to drink tea, eat cake and read books. It’s my favourite part of the week.Did a deep study of Atomic Habits.Shared an important post about my gender identity & pronouns.Became a part time expert on graphic novels for tween girls. My eldest kid got OBSESSED with them this year!Created my Sales Star program.Adored an incredible encyclopaedia of diaries.Blogged everyday in April.Had this song play constantly in my brain. Also this song.Went on holidays for the first time in years! Stayed at an old Queenslander cottage in Maryborough.Went to the amazing Story Bank museum. Stood in the room where the author of Mary Poppins was born!Got obsessed with reading blogs again. Created a big list of my favourites here.Took my kids to the Cat Cafe for a fun date!Read a Famous Five book to my kids. Life goal come true!Became obsessed with Susan Branch.I did a month without internet browsing or shopping.Took my kids to a lot of equine assisted learning. It was soooo deliciously fun!My bloke &.I celebrated 20 years of love.I had a mini school reunion and met up with sweet friends I hadn’t seen in two decades.Danced like crazy on the top of a boat with a crew of hags.Did 21 days of no spending.Had an amazing Greek dinner at Spero with my darling mate M.Got obsessed with learning how to get organised. Even took notes from Martha Stewart’s book.Went boating a few times on the river.Subsisted on a diet of peanut butter & chocolate smoothies and bubble tea. I am, indeed, a basic bitch at heart.Did a painting workshop with my kids and a bunch of friends. It was so fun!Spent a day in emergency.Went to Wildlife HQ. Unpopular opinion but I like it more than Australia Zoo – as much as I revere Saint Steve & all the Irwins! I like that it’s smaller, easier to walk around & has capybaras!Had an adorably posh birthday party for the girls.Chris’ Aunt & Uncle brought their campervan to stay on our acreage for a few days. It was so fun!I went to a naturopath to get my health tuned up.My eldest was sick for 6 weeks & ended up hospitalised with suspected appendicitis. It was scary and hard. I’m glad she’s better now.Went on lots of walks: the river, the beach and the wetlands are my usual trampling grounds.I fractured my littlest toe. YOUCH.I volunteered to take my littlest kid’s class to a Brisbane museum with a fractured toe. #idiotmoveIt inspired me to write this however. In related news, this book about Brisbane love stories was one of my very favourite books this year.I also got obsessed with interior designI wallpapered a half wall & got a new art cupboard!Made a drop zone for school bagsMade a lot of homemade egg & bacon muffins for the kids.Did a reno of my eldest kid’s desk & made a desk hutch for it as well!Hauled an old bookshelf out of the garage and painted it bright pink.Cared for our ageing puppy Angel (she’s 15 now!) Everyday when we come back from school run, we wander through the house seeing where she’s decided to have her morning nap today. 9 times out of 10, she’s curled up in a tight fluffy ball on one of the girls’ beds.Went to Eumundi a few times… it’s such a cute, artsy village. Had lunch at the pub with my wee family as well.Bought a dozen copies of this book to fling at every woman who passed me by because IT IS THE HOLY BIBLE OF OUR MIDDLE AGED TIMES.Got obsessed by ethical managed funds.Restained my office doorGot back into the habit of (almost) daily journaling.Did monthly group coaching calls with all my course students. I love doing these and getting to meet so many of you!Drew covers of books I’ve readFulfilled my lifetime dream of working in a bookstoreReleased a new program – Marketing Without Social Media.Went through a few short lockdowns when COVID bubbled up in Queensland. (A short note: for the last 19 months or so, COVID has been basically non-existent in my state by locking borders, mandatory quarantines & short lockdowns when it does bubble up. It’s worked spectacularly well and I’m so blinking grateful to have lived a relatively normal COVID-free life.)Shared a day in my life.Got double vaccinated WOOT WOOT.Got my leaking office repaired.Got to read “Boy” (Roald Dahl’s childhood autobiography) with my eldest kid. We love Tammy Hudgeon’s course.Made a poster about what helps my Autism.Told the HILARIOUS story of a godawful embarrassing mistake I made. I still scream internally when I think of it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAll in all… a full year of living! I’m so grateful.
School holidays are about to begin, and we’re off travelling for a wee bit. I am THRILLED to be getting away & letting go of school routines. I need some freedom & flexibility like I need air.
I wonder what 2022 will bring forth!
Sending you much love & blessings as always,

This Frazzled Mum Life (And An Anxiety Poster)

Dearests,
It’s gotten to that time of the school year where there are two weeks to go and I feel less like my usual fuck yeah flying free eagle:

and more like this bedraggled, henpecked chook:

My adrenals are kind of fucked. I’m forgetting shit and losing my shit, my kids are starting to scrape bottoms of their wells. Each week lately I put at the top of my to do list: Keep my wee family chill and full of love. Sometimes I manage it, sometimes I fail, sometimes it’s not mine to control.
I went to my beloved osteopath this morning for some back pain management. I asked her about anxiety.
She explained it like this:

So I’ve made myself a little reminder poster.
To remind me of how to take care of my featherless chook self.
If you need it for you, feel free to take and use.

Big love,

How to use Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) to increase your sales!

Possum Blossums!
Today we’re talking about SEO, or search engine optimisation.
Before we get started: are you up to date with the series so far?
How to Work Out Your Ideal ClientOnline Networking & MastermindingHow to Sell More with BloggingHow to Grow a Mailing ListGrow Your Biz Using Free Opt-InsWant to listen to the companion podcast for this post as you read?Easyyyy babes! Just click play above, or subscribe via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, PocketCast (or wherever else you listen to podcasts!)
So! What’s the dealio about this SEO thing?SEO is the process of making sure that your business ranks highly (i.e. on the first page of results, ideally within the first three results!) on search engines like Google.
It can be immensely helpful, especially for those of you with bricks and mortars businesses and product businesses. Often the first point of call for people searching for local businesses is using an online search engine. Local businesses really need to harness the power of that to make sure that they are getting in front of the people who want them now!
Even if you’re an online business, don’t be complacent about the power of SEO. What is your target market googling? What questions do they have? How can you answer them?
If you google any tarot card, I can pretty much guarantee my mate Brigit’s website will come up. She owns BiddyTarot.com and it receives over a million website hits each month from search traffic (!!!) Brigit has done an awesome job at using SEO to make sure she ranks highly for all tarot related questions, and her company is wildly successful and profitable because of it!
First stage of SEO success:Decide what you want to rank for:
You want your business to rank highly for things like: Your business name (this might sound basic, but it’s amazing how many businesses don’t do this!)If you are a local business, your service/product + location (including suburb, town and region). For example “Yoga Melbourne” or “Ashtanga Yoga VIC” or “Yoga classes South Yarra”.If you sell online for a specific country, you want to try and rank for search terms like “Soy candles Australia” or “soy candles .au”Brainstorm both specific and wide terms people might be asking.Brainstorm what interchangeable terms people might be searching for (i.e. “energy healing” “reiki” “reiki healing”)Brainstorm what questions people might be asking on Google about your industry/product that you can create a blog post around that answers itAdditional Tool To Help You Brainstorm:Google’s free Keyword Planner tool can help you search for search terms. You can use this to:
research how many people are interested in your nichesee what other keywords they are searching for that you might want to target as wellsee if the keywords you want to target are highly competitive (i.e. harder to rank for) or lower (easier to rank for).Want a handy dandy worksheet to help you really nail down your SEO?
(function(d,u,ac){var s=d.createElement('script');s.type='text/javascript';s.src='https://a.omappapi.com/app/js/api.min...
Basic Tips To Get You Started:
WordPress websites often can get a better rankingUse the Yoast WordPress SEO pluginMake sure that you have in your website title the things you most want to be ranked for (i.e. “Your Name/Business Name, Location, Industry)Name your pages and use headings (i.e. “” and “” in html) with words you most want to be ranked forCreate blog posts with titles that address exactly the questions people would have about your product or service.SEO is a strange science. But it is doable, and learnable, just like everything else in business and life. Don’t get overwhelmed by it – just decide to implement what you can step-by-step.
How I’ve Used SEO In My Own Businesses:Early on in my business evolutions, I decided I wanted to rank highly for “goddess” as it was part of my branding and target market. It was a fairly competitive word to aim for, so I only ended up being able to reach the top of the second page, or on a really good day the bottom of the first page. I also had secondary words (i.e. “goddess art” and “goddess meditations”) that I worked hard to rank highly in SEO. And I tried to rank for my location for the events I ran. I read a couple of SEO books, read blog articles about SEO, implemented and tested. I also got an SEO report done on my website with tips on how to rank higher.
Here’s how I currently use SEO in my business (aka: steal my tips!):I make sure that I rank highly for my own name and product names.I write blog posts with my target audience in mind, and title them with questions they may be searching for.I regularly look over my Google analytics (a free resource that helps you track how many visitors your website is getting and where they are going to) to see which posts and pages are getting the most amount of traffic. And here’s my handy hint – every six months, check which ones are popular. And make sure you keep your top posts that pull search traffic current. Check over them to see if there’s anything that needs updating, and use them to funnel readers to your mailing list or your products.
So there you have it!SEO is an excellent tool to add your kit! It will serve you for years and years to come.
It still surprises me, nearly two decades into this blogging gig, what posts end up being the most popular, which ones rank highly for search terms and attract a lot of search traffic. For example, some of my most visited blog posts over the past year have been ones I wrote several years back. Why? They have great titles, well written headings, and have managed to land on the top of search results for web searches. By building up a library of well-written articles, you’re creating traffic that will continue for years to come.
Big love,

The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You can’t get there by bus, only by hard work and risk and by not quite knowing what you are doing. What you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover will be yourself.”

Write for you, not for others. And if you can’t think of what to “write”, document something for yourself and call it writing.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the mystery of blogging, it’s that the stuff you think nobody will read ends up with way more reach than anything you write thinking it will be popular.
So write about what you want, not what you think others want, and the words will spill out.
Then find a way to keep them spilling out, day after day after day.

Those periods of creative stuckness are a great time to take classes, read books, and be a beginner at something again. The time is then not wasted, but filled with things that will fill you up and further your growth.
Favourite TV shows I’ve watched:Interior Design Masters: British interior design reality show competition. I loved that it wasn’t a festival of beige… it included colourful & eclectic designs.Taskmaster. British comedians do ridiculous tasks. The GREATEST.Expecting Amy. 3 part documentary of Amy Schumer experiencing pregnancy and hyperemesis gravidarum while still continuing to create & perform. Finally, a quote from the late Norm McDonald:“I’m so happy to be alive every day, because it’s just a fluke. There are many more people who never got to be alive. It’s the greatest gig in the world, being alive. You get to eat at Denny’s, wear a hat, whatever you wanna do.”Righto, this has been an absolute JOY.
And to think… when I was wasting my life scrolling social media, I wasn’t remembering ANYTHING important, useful, good or beautiful. I was just reading mindless, forgettable trash. Quitting social media & starting to mindfully consume brilliant creations again? Life changing. Brain healing. Wildly joyful.
Here’s to all the creators!
And special reminder: If you like these scrapbooks & want to see more, please do email in to let me know! That way I know to collect & curate more for you!

Pooky bears!
Yay! Our new tradition! A monthly review!

April & MayJuneJulyAugustSeptember.Want to list to this as a podcast instead?Easyyyy babes! Just click play above, or subscribe via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, PocketCast (or wherever else you listen to podcasts!)
To start, let’s review the goals I had for October!WORK GOALS
Release new workbooks – DONE. You can find them here.Release new workshop – NOPE. But it got launched in November instead.Weekly zines – DONE.Batch create 6 Business Success Series blog posts – DID 3.Finish another Project 10% – DIDN’T. Launched workbooks instead.Test tripwire product – DONE.Finish Project X – DONE! Calm Christmas Planner was launched!LIFE GOALS
Do another 21 day challenge – decluttering & organising – DONE!Weekly pilates – DONE!Do whatever I need to do to get my creative juices flowing! – DONE!Finish food e-course – NIET!Go for 10 walks – DONE!Finish reading “Die Empty”– NIET! Only 3 chapters in.All in all, pretty stoked with the progress we made!
What else happened on the life front in October?I spent a lot of time in the parenting trenches working through some new issues with my kids. I feel like I’ve had a pretty lucky run with my kids – since they have been out of baby & toddler ages, they’ve been fairly easy to manage. Or maybe that’s just my parenting sweet spot! But now I have a tween running towards being 12 and I feel wholly unprepared for being Mama of Teens. I don’t know how to do that! So that’s been tricky to work through, but I know we’ll get through. And I’m really bloody glad I have Dawsy to parent with. He’s really good at parenting in ways I’m not, and also makes an excellent venting partner.I also did a Zoom career talk for the Year 11 & 12 students at my old boarding school. I went for the “Eccentric Creative Aunt Encourages Them All To Disobey Their Parents And Follow Their Dreams” vibe, and I’m pretty sure I NAILED IT.I did a 21 day decluttering challenge and my house feels so much more organised! I feel quite chuffed with myself!I finished estate planning and I feel very very very very fucking smug.I did a lot of abstract painting, just for myself. It was glorious. My big kid went to school camp for 3 days. Even though it’s her third year going and we know it’s her favourite thing everrrr, it’s still strange when she’s not in the house, and it makes me wonder how on earth I’ll ever adjust to being a parent of adult kids. Our little kid had her first go on happy gas at the dentist. It was brilliant (compared to the usual car wreck of an experience that dentists can be for her).I had a rad weekly routine of going to pilates, then hanging out at my favourite bookstore/cafe, talking shit with the owners, drinking tea & eating cake. It made my heart happy.I got my second vaccine. Feels fucking TERRIFIC to be fully vaccinated. After having Swine Flu a few years ago & having a godawful time for six months, I’ve been fanging for this vaccine. Was social TWICE! Had dinner on the river with a friend & tea and cake with another. Sometimes I forget to be social, but then I get a bit sad and remember that even homebodies need people.I made a practice of keeping my eyes open for beauty, and taking Instax-looking photos of it using the NOMO CAM app. This month’s ridiculous injury: I bruised my heel while stomping around the house like a monster playing with the kids. It took 3 weeks for it to recover because OF COURSE IT DID.Halloween! We had a Halloween treasure hunt at home and it was hilarious fun. I made it into a Taskmaster style event where they also had to work out clues and complete tasks to proceed. The final prize was Halloween Beanie Boos (which Dawsy and I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to buy). I don’t know what it is about Beanie Boos… they are crack cocaine for children!
Favourite books I read in OctoberThe Road Trip – Beth O’LearyThe Heart Principle – Helen HoangDecluttering at the speed of life – Dana K WhiteKeep Going – Austin Kleon (re-read because it’s so great!)Big Magic – Elizabeth Gilbert (re-listen to the audiobook because it’s one of my favourites!)Becoming RBG – Debbie LevyQuarantine Comix – Rachael SmithFavourite TV in OctoberALONE! I just fucking LOVE this show. A reality show about people trying to survive in the wilderness does NOT sound like it would be up my alley. But it IS. It so is. It touches me deeply!Taskmaster. It’s our family’s favourite bar none. (In related reading, this amused me.)
What I created in my business in OctoberOctober was alllll about books!
First up, for something completely different, I thought I’d try something new. I created an illustrated Calm Christmas printable planner to sell on Etsy. It was a bunch of fun to make. I used Procreate on my iPad with my Apple Pen to create. (You can sell all the tools I use in my business here!)

I created the Calm Christmas printable planner for a few reasons:
I was bored & needed some noveltyI’m not naturally an organised person whatsoever, but have managed to get a lottttt more organised in recent years. And getting organised for Christmas has been a really fun project for me!I thought I’d see if I enjoyed selling on the Etsy marketplace again, and if it exposed me to a new audience.I knew it likely wouldn’t be a major income producer for me, and that’s fine. I still need to give myself room to experiment and try new things because doing the same thing again and again is kryptonite to my spirit.

We also released the new Goal Getter workbooks & planner range – four books in total for that range. I’ve been creating these workbooks for 13 years now, and they’ve been used by over 450,000 people which is incredible. This year I decided to make them undated so they can be used again and again. You can read all about that decision here.

For something free I released something odd & weird & didn’t talk too much about it… but the emails I’ve gotten back about it have been just LOVELY. Makes me want to make more weird free books like this.
This month I also discovered that my accountants have missed including our investment property in our annual tax returns for two years, so I’ve been collecting all the expense accounts for that property. I’m fairly sure it will result in a 5 figure tax return for us. Nothing will show up in October’s income for this of course, but I’m glad I’ve discovered it.

I’ll do a breakdown of where that came from in a second.
In terms of volume, it’s small for a usual launch period for me, however normal for a BOOK launch period. I had two book launches this month which are always fun – they do however tend to result in lower income in e-courses. Still…. it’s more in a month than I used to make in a year so nothing to sneeze at.
What I’m noticing is that I really like having a diversified income coming in from lots of different buckets. I’m starting to consider what retirement will look like. I dare say I’ll always be doing something creative in the world. It’s more about shifting my focus from active wealth creation to just doing whatever the fuck I want whenever I want because our investments, passive income and royalties cover our expenses.

I didn’t really market any of these courses in October, so it’s great they all still bring in cash anyway!
In terms of why Marketing Without Social Media was our #1 seller in October… I have no fucking clue. Ha! This course seems to just get more and more popular. It feels like so many people are yearning to do business differently, especially with more & more research coming out showing how harmful social media can be to our mental health.
The e-course course was second most popular because I ran a live round in September, so part of the cash would be late enrolments for that, as well as the monthly payment plans that go for 3 months.
I was fascinated to see that Sales Star, the Book course & the Money course all earned the exact same amount. And that a $7 product was selling nearly as much as them! The $7 product is still relatively new however, so I’d expect for sales to drop over time on that one. But maybe not! We’ll see. I’m also going to test using this one as a tripwire product.
Shares & managed funds growthMy ethical managed funds rebounded to their previous height after a slower month in September. I was yakking to a mate this week, and she thanked me for telling me when I invested in Australian Ethical shares last year. Since then they’ve grown by over 2.5x. At the time, I had shares in Commonwealth Bank, Telstra & Woolworths – but I sold them all after the Australian bushfires, determined to only invest in ethical and climate-crisis worthy shares. I’ve kind of ignored them since I bought them – and when I logged in to check them out after our conversation, discovered my $24,000 of shares are now valued at $60,000 (!!!!) About $10,000 of that growth has happened in the last month, so I’ve counting that as income as well.
If you want to know more about exactly how I create & grow my income streams, Money, Manifesting & Multiple Streams of Income is the resource for you!
