A ravenous reader with a burning love for pop culture and balloon animals, Jack writes about comics, libraries, and comics in libraries. He is the recipient of two master's degrees, one in Library and Information Science from Kent State University and the other in English from Ohio Dominican University. He now works as a manager for a public library in Greater Cleveland, where he lives with his husband, two dogs, a cat, and pet rats.

Quick note: I review books personally and professionally and they are different. Goodreads is for my personal reviews and taste. Sometimes a book is great, but it's not for me. My professional reviews appear in the occasional LIBRARY JOURNAL and are more detailed and objective.

New webinar approaching

Good evening, all! I hope your holidays were pleasant and your end of the year is looking nice and relaxing. Once that’s all done, if you’re so inclined, I’ll be part of a Brodart webinar January 4th, talking about upcoming graphic novels and other comics I’m excited about. That’s a bit different for me, since I’ve every panel I’ve been on in 2022 was talking about censorship.

Though there is an arena’s worth of exploration on the themes of power, privilege, and entitlement, this addition to The Hunger Games series ultimately fails to justify its own existence.

Thanks to dull, detached writing, this potentially suspenseful and darkly-whimsical tale has had the charm sucked out of it.
