There are a lot of great agents out there, and it's important to query those who represent your genre. I can recommend a few resources. Check out Writer's Digest's Guide to Literary Agents Blog, which features agents and has articles on writing and the publishing industry. I also like AgentQuery.com because you can search for agents based on genre and there are also helpful tips about query letters. I recommend checking out pitch contests on Twitter too. I found my publisher through Pitch Madness, also known as #PitMad.(less)

When I was writing The Sower Comes (coming in 2015), I found one section particularly challenging to write. I knew how things would unfold in the next chapter, so I made a note to go back later and moved forward. It worked, because I wasn't frustrated by my lack of progress. My mind needed a break to work out some details with the chapter that wasn’t behaving. My advice when encountering a block is to keep going and build around it. It's okay if that first draft isn't perfect. Things work out in the end.(less)
