Genre: Historical/Victorian  Romance

Miss Eleanor Sheffield is a talented evaluator of antiquities, trained to know the difference between a genuine artifact and a fraud. But with her father’s passing and her uncle’s decline into dementia, the family business is at risk. In the Victorian era, unmarried Eleanor cannot run Sheffield Brothers alone.

The death of a longtime client, Baron Lydney, offers an unexpected complication when Eleanor is appointed the temporary trustee of the baron’s legendary collection. She must choose whether to donate the priceless treasures to a museum or allow them to pass to the baron’s only living son, Harry—the man who broke Eleanor’s heart.

Eleanor distrusts the baron’s motives and her own ability to be unbiased regarding Harry’s future. Harry claims to still love her and Eleanor yearns to believe him, but his mysterious comments and actions fuel her doubts. When she learns an Italian beauty accompanied him on his return to England, her lingering hope for a future with Harry dims.

With the threat of debtor’s prison closing in, Eleanor knows that donating the baron’s collection would win her favor among potential clients, saving Sheffield Brothers. But the more time she spends with Harry, the more her faith in him grows. Might Harry be worthy of his inheritance, and her heart, after all? As pressures mount and time runs out, Eleanor must decide whom she can trust—who in her life is false or true, brass or gold—and what is meant to be treasured.

~ MMGM SINKING OF THE VASA ~

~ MARVELOUS MIDDLE-GRADEMONDAY NON-FICTIONHISTORY PICTURE BOOK ~ --  'THE SINKING OF THE VASA: A SHIPWRECK OF TITANIC PROPORTIONS'  -- AUTHOR RUSSELL FREEDMANILLUSTRATED BY: WILLIAM LOW

LEARN MORE ON GOODREADS
ABOUT THE BOOK {from Goodreads}:

In full sail with flags flying, the mighty warship capsized and began to sink.

This is the saga of the great Swedish warship, the Vasa. Built to be the crown jewel of the Swedish Navy, the Vasa capsized not a mile into her maiden voyage in 1628—a tragedy resulting in many deaths and great loss. But who was to blame? Russell Freedman explores the history of this ship, and her resurrection from the seas in 1961.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR {from Goodreads}:
Russell A. Freedman was an American biographer and the author of nearly 50 books for young people. He may be known best for winning the 1988 Newbery Medal with his work Lincoln: A Photobiography.

He grew up in San Francisco and attended the University of California, Berkeley, and then worked as a reporter and editor for the Associated Press and as a publicity writer. His nonfiction books ranged in subject from the lives and behaviors of animals to people in history. Freedman's work has earned him several awards, including a Newbery Honor each for Eleanor Roosevelt: A Life of Discovery in 1994 and The Wright Brothers: How They Invented the Airplane in 1992, and a Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal.

Freedman traveled extensively throughout the world to gather information and inspiration for his books. His book, Confucius: The Golden Rule was inspired by his extensive travels through Mainland China, where he visited Confucius' hometown in modern day QuFu, in the Shantung Province.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:
William Low is a much-lauded illustrator, author, and painter who has received numerous awards. His books include Chinatown and Old Penn Station. He lives in New York City.http://www.williamlow.com/
MY THOUGHTS:

This book presents the amazing true account of the sinking of a Swedish ship, the Vasa, in 1628. I discovered this book on one of my online library catalog searches under historical books for children published in 2018.

This book is in an oversized picture book format which I think is the perfect format because of the size and grandeur of the Vasa. The artist has included many large-sized diagrams and paintings which will engage middle-graders in this true-life disaster. There is even a four-page fold-out spread of what the ship looked like under water. The artwork in this book is simply awesome!

King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden ordered construction of the 'mightiest warship the world had ever seen' in the mid-1620's. The ship was named after the royal family's name, Vasa. Apparently, Sweden was frequently at war with her neighbors at this time and was known as a powerful maritime foe.

The king not only wanted to impress and frighten its enemies with a huge ship, he wanted it to overwhelm everyone who saw the Vasa. The ship was almost as long as a city block and was as tall as a fourteen-story building.

The ship was a work of art with hundreds of sculptures and carvings which were painted and gilded on the hull. There were gun decks on either side of the ship which could hold sixty-four bronze cannons. Can you just imagine the weight of this ship?

I won't spoil the details of the story for you, but the ship sunk on its maiden voyable, like the Titanic, and lay at the bottom of the ocean for three hundred thirty-three years. As dramatic as the sinking of the ship was, I found the second half of the book to be even more engaging with the story of how the Vasa was salvaged in 1961.

This true-life account will come to life for children and adults through the excellent writing of the author and the amazing artwork and diagrams of the illustrator.

***Extremely highly-recommended for teachers; librarians; children of all ages; fans of oceanography, marine history, maritime history, Swedish and European history, shipbuilding, and engineering. This book would make a fantastic read-aloud for primary students and an independent read for middle-grade and older students. This is definitely one of my top ten MMGM reads of 2018!***

BONUS CONTENT:  I enjoyed my virtual visit to the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. If you wish to learn more about this ship and see photos of how the Vasa looks now that it has been restored, click on the following link:  The Vasa Museum

I borrowed this book from the children's section of the local public library.

~ BLOG HOP FOR SANTA'S DOG ~

~ FRIDAY FICTION FEATURE ~BLOG HOP STOP FOR --  'SANTA'S DOG'  -- AUTHOR JoANN SKY~Post Includes:  Book Spotlight,Five Behind-the-Scenes Facts About the Book Shared By the Author, and a Giveaway~
About the BookSanta's Dog Cover Page_07-24-2018In this rhyming picture book for dog lovers of all ages, readers follow the adventures of Santa’s best dog, Lance, when he falls out of the sleigh one Christmas Eve. He’s taken in by the animal shelter and then brought home by a military family who needs some help as Dad is called to serve his country. When Christmas Eve comes ‘round the next year, Lance must decide whether to return to the North Pole with his friend Santa or stay with his new family.

Kirkus Reviews describes SANTA’S DOGS as “a sweet, powerful Christmas story.”

SANTA’S DOG would be a great addition to any library or classroom reading program! To accompany this book, we have developed full teacher resources, including a Teacher Lesson Plans packet as well as an Activity Packet, both of which are available for FREE download from the Dogs & Books website. JoAnn also offers FREE virtual author visits to schools. Additional information about all of these resources can be found here.
GOODREADS About the AuthorJoAnn Sky has written for years as part of her job (business and marketing plans and the like). One day she tried her hand at writing for fun—and liked it. Now she authors adult contemporary romance and young adult romance with a magical twist as well as children’s books. Behind-the-Scenes Facts About the Book1. Lance in the story is a combination of two rescues we’ve been lucky to have as part of our family over the years: Sampson and Lance. Sampson was our first rescue, and I adopted him from a kill-shelter while my husband was deployed to Iraq about 15 years ago. Lance was a wonderful older dog who spent about five years with us. Lance crossed the Rainbow Bridge earlier this year.

2. This story didn’t start out intending to be a children’s book. I began writing this as a short story that I thought I’d give to readers to encourage them to sign up for my author newsletter. As I wrote it out, it would only come out in rhyme—it just didn’t seem to work any other way. Then once I was done, I had a huge desire to add illustrations. The whole thing just snowballed after that!

3. The illustration of Santa going to pick up Lance and finding the shelter closed initially didn’t have the cardinal or the cat. I thought it needed “a little something,” so Ed Koehler (the most awesome illustrator in the world) added the cardinal. But it still seemed to need something! I asked Ed if he would add an animal peeking through the window. He wasn’t convinced it was necessary but added a cat. We both loved it, so that cat got to stay!

4. For the illustration of when Lance packs his things and waits for Santa, I had this vision with his dish on his head. I’m pretty sure Ed thought I was nuts when I first described it. But then he added the photo of the kids, and it was absolutely perfect!

5. SANTA’S DOG would not exist in its final form as a beautiful hardcover with dust jacket if I had not purchased Bobbie Hinman’s book, How to Create a Successful Children’s Picture Book. Bobbie is a successful author and editor. Her book is the bible for writing and publishing a children’s book. Seriously.

~ BOOK BLAST RHAPSODY & REBELLION ~

~ BOOK BLAST ~ --  'RHAPSODY & REBELLION'  -- AUTHOR AUBREY WYNNE~Post Includes:  Book Spotlight, AuthorBio, Excerpt & Giveaway~

Rhapsody and Rebellion by Aubrey Wynne
An enduring legacy... A rebellion... A destined love... Raised in his father’s image—practical and disciplined—there are no gray lines interrupting the Earl of Stanfeld’s black and white world. Until his mother has a dream and begs to return to her Highland home.

Alisabeth was betrothed from the cradle. At seventeen, she marries her best friend and finds happiness if not passion. In less than a year, she’s a widow. Vowing to honor her husband’s memory, she joins his activist group of Glasgow weavers and is soon embroiled in the Radical War of 1820. Crossing the border into Scotland, Gideon finds his predictable world turned upside down.

Folklore, legend, and political unrest intertwine with an unexpected attraction to a feisty Highland beauty. But Lissie doesn’t trust the Englishman or the rising desire between them. When the earl learns of an English plot to stir the Scots into rebellion, he must choose his country or save the clan and the woman that stirs his soul.

Excerpt -

“Mama, you were dreaming.”

Gideon’s thumb stroked the top of her hand, his voice soft and soothing.

“Look at me, Mama, and you will see.”

Maeve slowly turned her head, tears now spilling down her cheeks.

 “Oh Gideon, it was ghastly.”

“What did you dream?”

“It was not a dream.” Her voice faltered. “Your cousin, Ian, is dead.”

“What? Did you receive a letter from Scotland?” Gideon had not seen any correspondence from his mother’s family over the last week, and nothing had arrived today.

“I do not need a letter. I saw it. There has been a terrible slaughter in Manchester, and Ian was trampled by a Hussar’s charger...” She lifted her chin and wiped her wet cheeks with determination.

“You must take me home to my clan.”

“To the Highlands? You haven’t been there since your wedding.” He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.

“I can’t just run off to Scotland with my aging mother because of a dream.”

“Aging?” Her eyes narrowed, anger shining from beneath her lashes. “I have more stamina than most of those mutton-headed females of the ton.”

He had to agree with her but bit back a smile. “This is folly. A trick of the mind from lack of sleep.” He pressed his lips to her fingers. “Let’s have a glass of sherry, and you’ll feel better after we eat.”

“Don’t patronize me. Your father didn’t believe in…” She took his face in both her hands, strength growing in her touch and her gaze steady and direct. “It doesn’t matter. Listen to me. It was not a dream but a message that we are needed at home.”

“This is our home.” Gideon stood and leaned an arm against the fireplace mantel, worried the past year had also taken a toll on her mind. An uprising in Manchester? There had been rumblings throughout parts of the country but nothing significant.

“This is your home. Mine has always been in Scotland, regardless of how long I’ve been away.” Her eyes pleaded with him. “What about Marietta’s visit in September?” That would end this foolishness, he was sure.

“It will have to wait until October. You must promise we will leave as soon as you return from London. Or I will go alone.”

He looked up to the ceiling, hoping for some divine intervention. None came. “I give you my word.”

~ FIFTH ANNIVERSARY 'A HOLIDAY MIRACLE IN APPLE BLOSSOM' ~

~ SPECIAL EVENT ~-- FIVE-YEAR RELEASE DAYANNIVERSARY OF 'A HOLIDAY MIRACLE IN APPLE BLOSSOM'  --

Greetings this eighth day of October, 2018 ~
It's hard for me to believe, but five years ago today my first book, 'A Holiday Miracle in Apple Blossom', was released by Cedar Fort Publishing. I was especially excited because this book won the publisher's '2013 Holiday Tale Contest'.

Since then, I've written and indie-published the first book in my contemporary inspirational romance Bonita Creek Trilogy titled 'Robin's Reward'. My historical inspirational romance short story, 'Handmade Hearts', will be released in January, 2019. This story was inspired by a true story.

My debut middle-grade historical novel, 'RES-Q Tyler Stop', will be released in March, 2019. I'm currently working on Book 2 in the Bonita Creek Trilogy -- 'Penny's Promise' and the sequel to 'RES-Q Tyler Stop'.

To read more about 'A Holiday Miracle in Apple Blossom', follow the links shown below. For a chance to win your own e-book copy of this Christmas novella, enter the Rafflecopter contest at the end of this post. The contest is open to International winners. I'm giving away three copies of the book courtesy of the publisher. Good luck!

Thank you to those of you who have followed my writing career since the beginning and to those of you who have found me somewhere along the way. I truly appreciate your kind blog post comments, emails, and Facebook likes/follows/shares/comments.

~ MMGM STEAM FEATURE PLANT, COOK, EAT! ~

~ MARVELOUS MIDDLE-GRADE
MONDAY S.T.E.A.M. FEATURE
~ --  'PLANT, COOK, EAT!: A CHILDREN'S COOKBOOK'  -- AUTHORS JOE ARCHER and CAROLINE CRAIG

LEARN MORE ON GOODREADS

ABOUT THE BOOK {FROM GOODREADS}:
For beginners and green-thumbed foodies, this all-inclusive garden-to-kitchen cookbook is part lesson in gardening and part collection of healthy, delicious, kid-friendly recipes.

With photo-illustrations and clearly organized sections, discover how to plant seeds in patio containers, window boxes, or on an allotment; harvest fruits and vegetables; determine which plant parts are edible; spot pests in the garden; and use home-grown crops to cook everything from bean and bacon spaghetti to polenta chips to tomato, feta, and basil pizza.
MY THOUGHTS:
The farm-to-fork movement is sweeping across our nation, and this book targeting middle-grade students is the perfect example of why!
As a gardener and cook, I am interested in learning about natural ways of growing and preparing healthier foods in my kitchen. This book is a great resource for families who wish to teach their children earth-friendly growing and healthy eating habits.
The Introduction encourages readers to get involved in planting their own gardens even if they don't have room for a large garden. The authors suggest hanging baskets, window boxes, fences, and window ledges as great spaces for growing vegetables.
A section on the 'science' of plants and seeds covers a wide range of topics. Readers will learn what parts of a plant we eat, what happens when we plant a seed, and what plants need to grow. This section has some excellent photographs which support the text visually.
The soil and compost section was informative. A detailed 'recipe' for making valuable compost from kitchen and household leftovers is provided. I found the entire process of creating compost fascinating, so I know middle-graders would love this activity, too.
A discussion of preparing the soil, planning a vegetable patch, sowing seeds indoors, sowing and planting outdoors, and weeding is accompanied by photographs or young gardeners in action. This is the perfect lead-in for the section on healthy eating.
The food groups are discussed in detail and readers are encouraged to eat a rainbow of fruits and vegetables each day. Produce in a variety of colors and textures is recommended. This section leads in to the cooking section of the book. Health and safety tips are presented for cooks along with a list of cooking equipment along with tips about asking an adult for assistance when using the oven and stove top.
The second half of the book is entitled, 'Let's Get Started!' I really liked the way the authors formatted this half of the book because they went through each vegetable methodically taking readers from 'Growing ______' to a recipe using that particular vegetable. For instance:  'Growing Carrots' to 'Carrot Scramble'.
I felt some of the more unique vegetables were included in this cookbook, making it appealing to adults and children. Vegetables I don't usually see in cookbooks included cranberry beans, spinach, garlic, Swiss chard, eggplant, and beets. This is a great way to expose children and their families to new-to-them vegetables.
I noticed that most of the recipes are vegetarian in content, and I felt the quality of the recipes presented was excellent. Some of my personal favorites which I plan to try in my own kitchen were:  Lettuce & Tuna Scoops, Onion Soup with Baguette Slices, Bean and Bacon Spaghetti {but without the bacon for me, please}, Tomato/Feta/Basil Pizza, and the Spinach Omelette. There is even a Chocolate Beet Cake recipe for dessert. Yum!
The back matter of the book includes 'Growing Varieties', a detailed 'Glossary', and an 'Index'. The cover of the edition I read was a sturdy hardover with an old-style woven cloth cover filled with a vintage-style jumble of vegetables and kitchen tools. ***Highly-recommended for families, teachers, youth group/scouting group/4-H group leaders, gardeners, and individuals such as myself who love to try out new, healthy recipes!***
I borrowed this book from the children's section of the local public library.************

~ SUMMER PLANS AND OTHER DISASTERS ~

~ FRIDAY FICTION FEATURE ~BLOG TOUR STOP FOR: --  'SUMMER PLANS AND
OTHER DISASTERS'  -- AUTHOR KARIN BEERY~Post Includes:  Book Spotlight, Link toExcerpt and Author Bio~

 * * * * * * * * * ABOUT THE BOOK:
Elementary school music teacher Callie Stevens thinks she’s finally figured out God’s plan for her life—she even made a list to keep her on track.

Moving in with her brother and reconnecting with her ex-boyfriend are at the top of the list. What’s not on the list is running into her childhood crush, Ryan. God wanted her to connect with Kyle, right?

Trying to figure out God’s plan is hard enough. But a dating-averse older brother, the young blonde who adores him, a pregnant best friend, and Callie’s continual mishaps make her wonder whether her best laid plans were truly God-inspired.

Now available from Elk Lake Publishing!

EXCERPT:
Jack led Callie into the shadow of her home for the summer. Decades of history creaked beneath their feet as they stepped onto the faded deck of the Old Mission lighthouse.

She smiled as a long-forgotten peace settled over her. “I can’t believe I’m here.”

“Can’t believe good, or can’t believe bad?” He propped open the screen door.

“I’m still deciding, but mostly good I think.”

She followed Jack into the lighthouse. He walked right in, but she couldn’t help stopping to admire everything she loved about early twentieth-century construction. The outdated but solid oak cupboards in a cozy kitchen that opened into the quaint, window-lined dining room with its corner booth seating and well-used table top.

Turning right and moving up three stairs, she froze. Gone were the ripped couch cushions and laminated build-them-yourself bookshelves. The wood-burning stove still greeted her at the top of the stairs, but everything else had grown up. The new brown sofa and recliner appeared to be on steroids, but they weren’t what captured her attention. She couldn’t resist the magnetic pull of the built-in entertainment center. Blond wood intricately crafted and carved with a rustic but delicate ivy inlay.

Through the open archway in the adjoining room, she spotted a matching desk and bookcases. What had once been a bachelor’s sitting room, complete with a splintering Papasan chair and two cracking bean bag chairs, appeared to be Jack’s new office.

Jack walked up to Callie and grabbed the box from her arms. She ran a now-empty hand over the carved ivy leaves trailing along the side of the desk.

“You made this, didn’t you?”

He cringed. “It’s one of my early pieces. It’s rough.”

“It’s beautiful. I didn’t think you were ever going to get rid of that old furniture.”

“You harassed me about it every time you visited. After five years, I figured you might have a point, so I decided to go back to these pieces and see if I could make them work.”

“When did you have time to make it?”

“I have to do something during the winter.”

“I thought you tinkered with your truck.”

“I don’t tinker.”

He carried her box to the nearest bedroom, the one connected to the living room.

“I don’t want that room.”

He ignored her and nudged the door open with his foot, then disappeared. He reappeared without her boxes. Callie popped her hands onto her hips.

“I don’t want to stay in that room. It’s like a powder blue bomb exploded in there, and the wallpaper is awful.”

“Sorry.” Jack walked past her and out the front door.

Callie hustled after him, but the heel of her sandal snagged the carpet and she tumbled down the steps into the dining room. Her elbow smacked the thinly-carpeted cement floor. Pain shot up her arm and shoulder. Grabbing her elbow, she rolled onto her stomach to mute the moans.

Two feet appeared out of the corner of her eye. “What are you doing?”

“Testing my balance.” Callie hissed the words through clenched teeth as she willed the throbbing to stop.

“Well, get up and help me.” Jack tapped her foot with his heavy work boots as he walked by. Callie pushed herself up with her good arm. She couldn’t let Jack think she couldn’t handle a little pain.

She grimaced, but not because of her elbow. “Why can’t I have your old office? You obviously aren’t using it. Can’t I turn it into another bedroom?”

“It’s already a bedroom. Ryan’s staying there.”

Callie blinked. “Ryan Martin?”

“Yep.”

Tall, handsome, off-limits best friend to the big brother? Her heart dipped. Fabulous.

“Why?”

“His roommate decided to get married. Ryan had to move out.”

Jack walked past her and out the front door. Never mind that he’d just altered Callie’s entire summer plan. She followed him outside. If she was going to share a bathroom with Ryan for three months, then she needed to know how everyone felt about the arrangement.

“Does he know that I’m staying all summer?”

Jack opened a car door and pulled out two suitcases. “Yep.”

“And he’s okay with that? You’re okay with that?”

Callie stepped right up to Jack. At almost six feet tall, she still looked up to her brother.

“He’s not sharing a house with you. He’s living with me.”

“Whatever. We’ll be in the same house.”

Jack looked at her like she’d sprouted horns. “You’ve lived in the same house before. It’s no big deal.”

He moved around her and back toward the deck.

Callie’s heart skipped. “He went on vacation with us and spent the
night. This is different.”

Jack ignored her as he banged the black luggage into everything on his way inside. He clearly didn’t care about the living arrangements. Well, if Jack didn’t mind, and Ryan didn’t mind, maybe she was overacting. Or not.

Callie slumped against her car. Ryan Martin. The schoolgirl crush that wouldn’t fade. He’d known her since she was ten, and she’d been invisible to him for just as long. Not that she could blame him. She’d been an obnoxious, weird-looking, awkward girl until five years ago.

* * * * * * * * * ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Karin wrote her first novel in 2007 to cope with her husband’s cancer diagnosis (no worries – he’s cancer free now!). With the support and encouragement of her family, she submitted that manuscript. That particular manuscript has not been published yet, but Summer Plans and Other Disasters, her first published book, released in September 2018.
Karin writes contemporary and speculative fiction stories with a healthy dose of romance, but she’s also expanded her repertoire: she writes feature stories for the local paper, copy material for businesses, and blog posts for herself and others. She even edits (offering copy editing, fiction editing, and critiques through Write Now Editing Services) and teaches (she’s the Substantive Fiction Editing instructor for the PEN Institute and can be found around the country teaching writing and editing courses at conferences and at her local college).
When Karin’s not reading, writing, or editing, she enjoys cooking and baking. She plays the piano and sings (the key of E, please). She kayaks with her husband in the summer, watches football in the fall (Go Blue!), and enjoys Christmas lights all winter long. Shy but extroverted, Karin adores her nieces and nephew and loves spending time with her family.  Learn more about Karin at: karinbeery.com.

RHPS Book Blast Banner**ABOUT THE BOOKS**The Unwanted Suitor1-The Unwanted SuitorWhen Cornelia Greystock received a proposal from Sir James Hawkston, she couldn’t bear it. It had been inspired, she knew, from pity and remorse—not love. Unable to face him afterward, she leaped at an offer of employment from the Countess, Lady Du’Breven. Serving as her companion, Cornelia struggles to adjust to the change in her social status, but the hard work distracts her from her broken heart. That is, until the Countess decides to hold a summer house party at her family estate and invites Sir James.

Sir James has never recovered from his disappointment when Miss Greystock refused his proposal and then fled, according to her family, to live with an unheard-of aunt in Ireland. When he grudgingly accepts an invitation to Lady Du’Breven’s house party, however, he is astounded to find Miss Greystock there. One thing is certain—this time he’ll court her the way he always should have.

He is almost certain she returns his feelings, but he must tread carefully. If she refuses his proposal a second time, it would not be gentlemanly to ask a third. As time grows short and she continues to hold him at arms-length, will he find a way to at last win her hand?

But when he meets a damsel in distress unwilling to accept his help, Anthony realizes his attraction to her may be his downfall.

Isabel Townshend is at her breaking point, caring for her ailing father and her innocent younger sister. She has a family secret to protect and no time for handsome young men, even at a house party with so many eligible bachelors. When Lord Anthony disturbs her well-laid plans, Isabel realizes her determination to protect her family may cost her future happiness.

With hearts at odds and defenses drawn, will Isabel and Anthony be able to put aside their differences and find love at last?

But when he meets Jessica Standish, he wishes she didn’t think he was someone else.

Jessica Standish has never been considered worthy by the ton and now that she and her mother are penniless, the chances of a good match seem out of reach. Even the matchmaking schemes of the Countess Du’Breven seem doomed to failure. This house party will change nothing, though it’s hard not to hope when she sees Lord Ian again. The connection between them grows, though he seems so different from the man she remembers.

With his family name and fortune on the line, Conrad knows he should leave with his secret intact. After all, how can she truly love him if she thinks he’s someone else?

When Lord Henry Courtenay discovers a new attraction to his childhood friend, his role as one of her chaperones at the house party becomes near impossible. Irrationally defensive about any potential suitors and seeking time alone with the enticing Tabby, maintaining friendship with her brothers proves more difficult than he ever imagined. When Tabitha’s choices might lead her to danger, and doubt and distrust are high, Henry must prove himself or lose her forever.

EXCERPT:
SEPTEMBER 1866WATCHFIELD HOUSE, OXFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND
A thI did not believe Lord Lydney had ascended.
And yet Lydney had been my father’s friend, patron, and benefactor. Many spoke admiringly of him. Truth be told, he had on occasion been charitable to me. I had once believed he would be my father-in-law.
That notion had passed.
