It’s her heart…or his life. What will protecting Charlie cost her?
Another edge-of-your-seat Elite Guardians thriller!  💜 💜 💜 💜 💜   EXCERPT:

A black haze filled the room at an alarming rate. “Charlie!” Lizzie coughed and covered her nose and mouth with the neck of her shirt. She couldn’t see beyond a couple of feet in front of her. “Charlie!”

She lifted her arm to shield her face. The heat rolled off the flames like waves tumbling toward her. She grabbed a kitchen towel, poured the remaining water from her bottle on it, and covered her nose and mouth. She had to find Charlie and get them out before they both died of smoke inhalation or worse—burned to death.

 💜💜💜💜💜ABOUT THE AUTHORSSami A Abrams

Sami A. Abrams grew up hating to read. It wasn't until her 30s that she found authors who captured her attention. Now, most evenings you can find her engrossed in a romantic suspense novel. In her opinion, a crime plus a little romance is the recipe for a great story. Sami lives in Northern California, but she will always be a Kansas girl at heart. She has a love of sports, family, and travel. However, a cabin at Lake Tahoe writing her next story is definitely at the top of her list. Visit her at http://www.samiaabrams.com.

~ FRIDAY FICTION FEATURE MIDNIGHT'S BUDDING MORROW ~

~ FRIDAY FICTION FEATURE ~ -- 'MIDNIGHT'S BUDDING MORROW' --
AUTHOR CAROLYN MILLER
~Post Includes: Book Spotlight + Link to
Excerpt, Author Bio, Review & Giveaway ~

About the series:

While most stories set in Regency England focus on the rich, the young, and the beautiful, award-winning author Carolyn Miller decided she wanted to give readers something different for a change. Her new Regency Wallflowers series follows the commoners, away from the hustle and bustle of 1810s London, out in the Lake District of England. She tells the stories of women who are slightly older and have few prospects for marriage, women who might be considered “wallflowers.”

Midnight’s Budding Morrow is the second book in the Regency Wallflowers series. The first book in the series is Dusk’s Darkest Shores.

About the book:

Can real love grow between a wallflower and an unrepentant rogue?

Sarah Drayton is eager to spend time with her best friend at her crumbling Northumberland castle estate. Matrimony is the last thing on her mind and the last thing she expects to be faced with on a holiday. Yet she finds herself being inveigled into a marriage of convenience with her friend's rakish brother.

When James Langley returns to his family's estate, he can't be bothered to pay attention to his responsibilities as the heir. War is raging and he wants only distraction, not serious tethers. But his roguish ways have backed him into a corner, and he has little choice but to obey his father's stunning decree: marry before returning to war, or else. Suddenly he finds himself wedded to a clever and capable woman he does not love.

Sarah craves love and a place to belong, neither of which James offered before returning to the battlefront. Now everyone around her thinks she married above her station, and they have no intention of rewarding her for such impertinence. It isn't until her husband returns from war seemingly changed that she begins to hope they may find real happiness. But can she trust that this rake has truly reformed?

When tragedy strikes, this pair must learn to trust God and his plans. Will they be destroyed . . . or will they discover that even in the darkest depths of night, the morning still holds hope?

Review:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A powerful tale of forgiveness, healing, and love . . .

Set in 1811 in Yorkshire, England, this Regency era romance pulled at my heartstrings from the first chapter. Sarah Drayton is a woman past her prime according to society norms of the time. She is not pretty nor does she wear the latest fashions. She is treated like a doormat by her aunt and uncle with whom she lives. She still grieves the loss of her mother and father whom she lost years ago. Most of all, she is a kindhearted, sweet woman who is lonely and sad.

The author leads her readers through Sarah's unenviable life as she navigates the snobbery of the members of society in the area where she lives in her best friend Beatrice Langley's family home—a crumbling castle on the coast. Secrets and hidden travesties are revealed at exactly the right moments which I believe keeps the story moving to its conclusion at a good pace.

The villagers of the area adore Sarah because of her kindness and the generosity she shows to those in crisis, but she is bullied and demoralized by the upper-class families who are longtime members of the community. Sarah proves how capable and special she is in many ways, but she still battles with not being accepted or tolerated—or loved—by those closest to her.

The faith thread in this book was beautiful and realistic. I think it may be my favorite part of the story. Watching Sarah blossom and thrive as the pages are turned makes this a rewarding read for fans of Christian historical romance, Regency era romance, and Christian romance.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Audra Jennings Publicity. All of my thoughts and opinions shared here are solely my own.

“Look out!” He reached over and jerked the wheel to the right. She whipped her head around in time to see a crop-dusting plane headed in their direction, nearly on top of them.

“Why is he flying over the road!” Nicole spun the wheel, sending the cruiser off the road and skidding into the grass while the plane passed them. She knew the pilots sometimes flew as low as eight feet above the crops. She’d never seen one up this close before. She hit the gas and her tires spun in the grass and mud before finding traction again on the paved road.

Her questions were answered when the plane did a staggering loop in the air and roared back toward them. She floored it, trying to outrun this new threat. Bullets rained down on the road from the craft.

They’d become the killer’s new target.

There’s no such thing as a free cruise in Cuban American author Teresa Dovalpage's addictively clever new Havana mystery.

Cuban-born Mercedes Spivey and her American husband, Nolan, win a five-day cruise to Cuba. Although the circumstances surrounding the prize seem a little suspicious to Mercedes, Nolan’s current unemployment and their need to spice up their marriage make the decision a no-brainer. Once aboard, Mercedes is surprised to see two people she met through her ex-boyfriend Lorenzo: former University of Havana professor Selfa Segarra and down-on-his-luck Spanish writer Javier Jurado. Even stranger: they also received a free cruise.

When Selfa disappears on their first day at sea, Mercedes and Javier begin to wonder if their presence on the cruise is more than coincidence. Mercedes confides her worries to her husband, but he convinces her that it’s all in her head.

However, when Javier dies under mysterious circumstances after disembarking in Havana, and Nolan is nowhere to be found, Mercedes scrambles through the city looking for him, fearing her suspicions were correct all along.

EXCERPT:

Surprise Tickets

The cruise ship Narwhal, all twelve decks of her, towered above the terminal building. It had a festive air, with the hull painted white and bright ribbons of red, yellow and green splashed all over. From a distance it looked like a giant tropical bird that had inexplicably landed on water.
August in Miami was, as usual, ninety-four degrees with a devilish mix of heat and humidity that made you want to crawl inside a refrigerator. The Nautilus instructions said to be at Terminal B before noon, but it was well past one and the line to enter the building wasn’t moving. It was worse than being at an airport, por Dios! Then I remembered that we had no right to complain. After all, we had gotten the cruise for free.

I was still scratching my head about the whole thing. It all began when a young woman showed up at Pretty and Pampered, the pet grooming salon where I worked part-time, asking for me. She looked like a teenager, but dressed professionally in a beige suit, and introduced herself as a Nautilus representative. I was getting ready to give a summer cut to a standard poodle when she presented me with an embossed envelope and cooed, "Congratulations, Ms. Spivey! You’ve just won two cruise tickets to Havana!"
I was born and raised in Havana. After marrying Nolan in 2008, I had returned many times to visit my grandmother but never thought of taking a cruise back. And in July 2017, sailing to Cuba was the last thing on my mind. "I’ve won what?" I asked.
The poodle took advantage of my surprise to get away and hide under a chair.      "A couple of tickets!" the girl chirped, perky as could be. "Aboard the Narwhal, our most popular ship! The cruise’s departing on August the tenth."       Nautilus Cruise Line had started to offer short cruises that included Cuba in their itineraries, she explained. They were carrying out their biggest ever promotional campaign with many giveaways. I was one of the lucky winners. Cool, eh? What that chick didn’t say was how and where I had signed up for the raffle or whatever it was that I had won.  Praise for Death Under the Perseids:  “Dovalpage allows Mercedes a vivid, emotional tour of Havana as she explores the areas where she grew up and how the city still lives in her heart . . . Death Under the Perseids offers as many surprises as the meteor shower it is named after.” —Oline H. Cogdill, South Florida Sun Sentinel   “From the start of Teresa Dovalpage's Death Under the Perseids, a highly entertaining mystery set in Havana, there’s an ominous tone, a hint of something repressed beneath the main character’s narration . . . Like the Perseids meteor shower that once every hundred years or so lets us ‘look back across time’ in the universe, this trip to Havana forces Mercedes ‘with a biting awareness’ to confront her past.” —Carole E. Barrowman, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel   “[A] refreshing and elusive Cuban crime novel.” —Jack Batten, The Toronto Star  🚢🌊🌅🚢🌊🌅🚢🌊🌅
On Sale During the month of June at Amazon $2.99  🚢🌊🌅🚢🌊🌅🚢🌊🌅  About Teresa Dovalpage

MY REVIEW: When this book recently arrived at my home, I felt like I was a kid again because I was reminded of all those years ago when I got to choose a new coloring book at the grocery store! I loved to color with my crayons and colored pencils and markers, so I went through a lot of those coloring books. There is a lot more to this book than coloring pages, however.

The Table of Contents lists the 100 promises individually for quick reference. A 'Note to Parents' is a warm, welcoming review of the book's purpose and meaning which encourages parents to use the book with their child to maximize the learner's knowledge and understanding of God's promises.
Each 'Promise' begins with a title for the page. Promise 1 is 'God Keeps His Promises.' This is followed by a scripture containing the promise and a devotional written in language a child can relate to and appreciate. The facing page is a coloring page which applies to the promise. The artwork by this gifted artist is detailed and appealing. The faith element throughout the book is strong, positive, and hopeful. This book would be an excellent family time devotional or small group devotional.

As a retired educator and literacy mentor, I was pleased with the number of literacy and spatial recognition activities the author included in this book. There are mazes, writing and drawing exercises, dot-to-dot pictures, and complete-the-picture pages. The Back Matter of the book includes several crafts for children to make that support a particular Promise devotional.
Highly-recommended for families, church libraries, small groups, and Sunday School teachers.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through JustRead Publicity Tours. All of my thoughts and opinions expressed here are solely my own.

The Fourth of July is coming, and for professional food lover Samantha Barnes, it’s all about the picnic. Okay, and the fireworks. And the parade. But mostly the picnic. What could be better than a DIY clambake followed by the best blueberry buckle in the world? Sam has finally found the perfect recipe in the kitchen of Clara Foster, famed cookbook author and retired restaurateur, and she’s thrilled when Clara agrees to a buckle baking lesson.

But when Clara dies in a house fire blamed on carelessness in the kitchen, Sam doesn’t believe it. Unfortunately, her doubts set in motion an investigation pointing to the new owner of Clara’s legendary restaurant—and a cousin of Sam’s harbormaster boyfriend. So, in between researching the Cape’s best lobster rolls and planning her clambake, Sam needs to find Clara's killer before the fireworks really start....

Amy Pershing, who spent every summer of her childhood on Cape Cod, was an editor, a restaurant reviewer and a journalist before leading employee communications at a global bank. A few years ago she waved goodbye to Wall Street to write full time. Murder Is No Picnic is the third of the Cape Cod Foodie mysteries featuring Samantha Barnes, a disgraced but resilient ex-chef who retreats home to Cape Cod where she finds herself juggling a new job as the local paper’s “Cape Cod Foodie,” a complicated love life, a posse of just-slightly-odd friends, a falling-down house, a ginormous dog and a propensity for falling over dead bodies. Elizabeth Gilbert called the first book in the series, A Side of Murder, “the freshest, funniest mystery I have ever read,” and Kirkus Reviews gave the second book, An Eggnog to DieFor, a starred review, saying, “A delightful sleuth, a complex mystery, and lovingly described cuisine: a winner for both foodies and mystery mavens.”

〰 ABOUT THE BOOK:

"Romantic suspense fans will not want to miss this."--Lisa Harris, bestselling author of the Nikki Boyd Files

In 1964, a group of scientists called the Los Alamos Five came close to finishing a nuclear energy project for the United States government when they were abruptly disbanded. Now the granddaughter of one of those scientists, aerospace engineer Elinor Mitchell, discovers that she has highly sensitive information on the project in her possession--and a target on her back.

SNAP agent and former Navy cryptologist Kekoa Young is tasked with monitoring Elinor. This is both convenient since she's his neighbor in Washington, DC, and decidedly inconvenient because . . . well, he kind of likes her.

As Elinor follows the clues her grandfather left behind to a top-secret nuclear project, Kekoa has no choice but to step in. And with danger closing in on all sides, Elinor will have to trust the man who has been spying on her to ensure her discoveries stay out of enemy hands--and she stays alive.

  MY REVIEW:

A complicated, high-tech romantic suspense story . . .

This is the first novel I have read by this author. Although I did not read Book One in 'The SNAP Agency' series, I did not feel out of sync with the characters or their jobs because the author introduces the needed background information at appropriate times.

The male lead, Kekoa Young, is a former member of the US Navy who is now a brilliant cryptologist for SNAP. The female lead, Elinor Mitchell, is an aerospace engineer whose grandfather was one of the Los Alamos Five in 1964.

Their paths cross when the SNAP agency is asked to investigate Mitchell's possible involvement in some unethical behavior involving leaking and/or selling her designs to outside parties. Coincidentally, Kekoa and Elinor are next-door neighbors in their condo building.

Readers learn about the admirable depth of Kekoa's ethics when he is asked to keep an eye on Elinor by his employer, SNAP. Circumstances lead to Kekoa and Elinor sharing time together which leads to a bond of two damaged, grieving souls.

There are many humorous moments throughout this book which involve Elinor's love of chemistry and math. Kekoa is a wonderful companion and does everything he possibly can to keep Elinor safe from whoever is preying upon her.

There are many villains in this story, so readers are kept on their toes from start to finish—the hallmark of a great suspense story!

The inclusion of diverse characters such as Kekoa, Elinor, and Garcia added cultural interest to the plot and enriched the story in my opinion.

Healing, friendship, faith, and family are the main themes of this moving story. There were several touching scenes toward the end of the book that led me to tears. The book is completely clean in language and content.
