Spring is blooming in Sierra Pines, and everyone’s busy preparing for the annual Spring Fling Festival. Ali Winston takes her B&B guests for a tour, and their first stop is the face painting booth. Local school board president, Melvin Renville, is there to honor a bet he lost to the student body by having his face painted. However, things turn tragic when he has an allergic reaction and ends up dead. No one is more surprised than Ali’s best friend and art teacher, Lyla Lane, when it’s discovered her face paint contains peanut oil, an ingredient Renville was highly allergic to. Lyla insists she’d never use store bought paint, only homemade, because in teaching elementary school, she’s aware many kids have food allergies.
Ali suspects someone wanted Renville dead and cleverly framed Lyla for the crime. The question is who had motive and the opportunity to pull off such a daring deed? "Renville hopped off the podium stand and sat down in the chairnext to the paint booth while everyone clapped and cheered him on.How he managed to express such a pleasant disposition in public yetact so vindictive disturbed me. He had most people fooled. Too bad thenice guy had a dark side. Lyla placed pads on Renville’s eyes then applied a base with a dampsponge. Once done, she dipped a thin brush into a can of purple paint,which was actually lavender. She was the artist and thrived onaccuracy.Carefully she outlined the face then switched to a broader brush andbegan covering his entire face. “Ursula! Ursula!” Students, mostly from the high school, clapped andchanted as Renville was transformed. Lyla stood back and smiled. She reached behind her and pulled out awhite wig, then handed it to the school board president. Renville’s smiled quivered as if he struggled to keep his pleasantexpression in place. Hesitating only a few seconds, he removed his ballcap and tugged the wig over his head.Laughter broke out, along with whistles and cheers, followed bysomeone shouting words that were difficult to comprehend. Soon, othersjoined in the chant.
I chuckled as I figured out what they were saying. “Poor UnfortunateSouls. Sing it. Sing it.”
“Do you think he will?” Gladys stepped alongside me.
“Well, he’s gone this far. What’s a line or two of a song going to hurt?”I grinned. “All in the name of school spirit. Isn’t that what he said?”
Renville held up both arms to quiet the crowd. “I’m afraid I don’tknow the lyrics. How about our school victory song instead? We cansing it together.” Without waiting for a response, he belted out thefirstline of the spirit song but almost immediately stopped to clear histhroat. “Could someone please get me a cup of water?” By now, he was coughing uncontrollably and his face turned bright red. He stumbled severalyards away from the booth before stopping to bend over and clutch his throat.
Lyla quickly pulled a water bottle out of her cooler and popped thelid. She hurried to Renville and handed him the bottle.
I raced to where they stood with Gladys right behind me. “Pleasestand back, everyone,” I said. “Give the man room to breathe.”
“I’m calling for the EMTs.” Lyla’s hand trembled as she pressed thebutton on her phone.
“Maybe he’ll be okay. The water seems to help.” I tried to calm her butkept a wary eye on Renville. The coughing had stopped but his breathing became labored as his mouth gaped open to gulp air.
“Yes. Please come to the Sierra Pines festival grounds. A man seemsto be in distress. I’m not sure what’s wrong, but please hurry.” Shecovered the phone and stared at me unblinking. “I don’t understand. He was fine. Laughing, joking. I don’t get it.” She pressed the back of herhand to her lips. “Oh, my gosh.” Her eyes widened as she pointed.
I turned to follow her gaze. Renville lay on the ground, eyes closed.His chest moved up and down in a rapid pace.
“Is he dead?” A young woman cried out.
“No, look. Isn’t he breathing? I mean, sort of.” Someone else said.
A siren screamed in the distance and grew louder. I hugged Lyla. “It’sgoing to be okay. You’ll see.” I whispered without an ounce ofconfidence. By now, Renville’s face looked distorted. Tiny blisters covered hischeeks and his eyes looked puffy. Whatever happened came on fast and with no explanation.
Just then, the EMT van steered onto the lot and came within a fewyards of us before stopping. Two men jumped out of the vehicle andcarried a gurney across the field until they reached us. One of them knelt down to check Renville’s pulse then signaled to the other. He jabbed a needle into Renville’s thigh and placed an oxygen mask on his face.
“Is he . . . will he be okay? I mean, he was fine a few minutes ago.”Lyla’s voice hitched, and she clutched my arm. “Ali, I have a reallybadfeeling about this.”
I motioned for Gladys to help me guide Lyla to a chair. I couldn’t findany words to comfort my friend. Instead, I focused my gaze on the EMTs who knelt down next to Renville. The scene played in slow motion, as if each detail divided into tinier details, each step they took lastedinfinite seconds long.
Yeah, I had a really bad feeling too and the worry lay heavy on mychest as I struggled to take a deep breath.
“Ali?” Lyla rasped and squeezed my hand.
The EMT who spoke to his partner finally glanced our way. He didn’tneed to say anything. I could tell by his grim expression. Withoutwaiting any longer, he turned to help carry the gurney to the van. I heaved my chest and a quivering breath eased out of me. I knew in my gut. Melvin Renville was dead."

What you may not know is that as an author, I have used this awesome company to promote 5 of my fiction books during the past 4 years! In early 2019, JustRead promoted my Christian historical romance, 'Handmade Hearts.' This short story was inspired by my aunt and uncle's real-life World War II romance in New Orleans. This event was the first time that I hired someone else to organize my blog blitz. Prior to that, I organized my own tours for my first two books, 'A Holiday Miracle in Apple Blossom' and 'Robin's Reward.' I actually enjoyed my blog blitz because JustRead was monitoring and following through on getting things done on my behalf!
In late Spring, 2019, JustRead organized the blog and reviewer tour for my debut children's novel, 'RES-Q Tyler Stop.' What a wonderful job the company did of creating appealing graphics, monitoring the commitments that reviewers and bloggers had made to get the word out about my book, as well as promoting the book release on their own social media channels.
In January of this year, I approached JustRead about promoting my 'Bonita Creek Series.' Instead of a single book, this campaign included the first three books of my Christian romance series--'Robin's Reward,' 'Jorie's Journey,' and the recently-released 'Christmas in Bonita Creek.' Because there were three books included in the tour, JustRead made three times as many graphics and organized three times as many book spotlights and excerpts. I was very pleased with the results and the buzz this tour created for my series.
A word about my 'sister' blog hosts--The individuals who sign up to post for JustRead are volunteering their time and talents to share the word about Christian and clean, wholesome fiction and non-fiction because they are committed to introducing their followers to these genres and the authors who write them. They deserve a huge nod of gratitude for their selfless efforts. As an author, I want to thank all of these bloggers for their efforts in my behalf.

MYREVIEW: An intense story about forgiveness andteamwork . . . 'Blind Trust' is the conclusion to theauthor's 'SNAP Agency' romantic suspense series. I previously read Book 2 inthe series, so I was familiar with the two main characters, Lyla Fox andNicolas Garcia, and their team at the agency. Lyla is an iron-willed, impulsive womanwho constantly challenges serious, methodical Nic Garcia's every last nervewhen they are working together on a case. Her seat-of-the-pants actions andreactions drive him absolutely crazy. Readers are left to wonder about Nic'strue feelings but must wait patiently until the author reveals his core valuesas the story unfolds. The novel is filled with danger, action,and close calls. A good amount of on-page time is spent on the SNAP team'spersonal relationships and romances. Kekoa's strong personality adds comicrelief to the tension surrounding the agency's missions. There are plenty of surprising twistsand turns that fans of this genre will enjoy. The villains involved in thisplot are appropriately reprehensible, and I found the ending of the story to bephenomenal! I received a copy of this book from thepublisher through their Revell Reads Blogger Program. All of my thoughts andopinions shared here are solely my own.

Plus, it sounded nothing like my sister. Was it my best friend, Pat?No, it didn’t sound like her, either.
“It … it … it’s me,” the voice said betweensobs. “Cherry.”
“Cherry?” I wasn’t sure I’d heard her right.
Cherry burst into a fresh bawl. “You have tocome,” she said. “He’s not moving. You have to help him.”
“He? Do you mean Marcus?” My mind raced as Ithought about her romantic surprise date. “Is something wrong with Marcus?”
Another hiccup. “Please come. He needs help. Ineed help.”
“Cherry, if there’s something wrong with Marcus,call 9-1-1.”
“You don’t understand,” she cried. “I don’tremember. He wasn’t here. So, I don’t even know how he was attacked.”
Attacked? What was she talking about? Was she in themiddle of a bad trip? Was THAT the romantic surprise? I tugged a hand throughmy wild, brownish- blondish hair, trying to decide if maybe I shouldhang up and call 9-1-1. “Cherry, what is going on? Talk to me.”
“I ca … can’t. Please just come. Hurry.” Therewas a click, and the phone went dead.
I stared at the receiver. Really, the smart movewould be to call 9-1-1 myself. I had no business heading over to her house inthe middle of the night, especially if I was going to end up in the middle ofsome dangerous situation. Best to let the professionals take care of it.
Yet … her voice tugged at me. She soundedterrified … like something had gone very wrong.
What she really needed was someone in her cornershe could trust.
Before I was even aware I had made the decision,I was striding over to my closet to pull on a pair of jeans and an oversizedUniversity of Wisconsin sweatshirt. I headed into my en suite bathroom toquickly brush my teeth, wash my face, and try to do something with my wildhair. I finally managed to gather it into a loose ponytail, although a fewtendrils had snuck out and were framing my face. I stared at myself in themirror. My hazel eyes were puffy from lack of sleep, and I looked far olderthan my early thirties.
Well, it’s not like you’re going to a party, I scolded myself. If you’re gonna do this, then hurry up and do it.
I left the bedroom and hurried to find my keys.

It was like he was in a smoke funnel. His knees locked beneath him as heblinked at the same blue eyes that had hung around in his dreams. They belongedto the woman he’d rescued out of the fire.
As if they’d never met, she stood and extended her hand. “Goodafternoon, I’m Natalie Atkinson from the Ridgeman Center. I’ll be the counselorassessing you and your firefighters.”
His lungs ached at the memory of her collapsing and him cradling her. Natalie.The name suited her, but this was not how he’d imagined them meeting.
He wrapped hishand around hers and, for a moment, they stared at each other, until sheslipped her hand away. She’d been beautiful yesterday, but with her hair up andthe spark in her eye, he wished they were introducing themselves during dinnerat Backdraft Bar and Grill instead of a professional meeting.
Macon cleared his throat. “I’m Chief Macon James.”

A suspenseful talefilled with many twists and turns . . . From page one to the end of this bookKayla Swartz is tormented by memories of her father and his lifestyle's effecton her life. She is on a continual roller coaster of danger as she is chaseddown by unknown assailants for a reason she has yet to discover. Her emotionsare all over the place as she bounces from one stressful event to another. Iadmired her perseverance in the face of obstacles coming at her in quicksuccession. Nicholas Galanis, a bodyguard who ownshis own security company, reenters Kayla's life when she returns to theirhometown of Snowberry, Montana, at her father's request. Nicholas is a solidguy who remains steadfast to Kayla and her family throughout the story. He is aforgiving person who is willing to take people at their word and give themanother chance. I found him to be a three-dimensional man of faith who isfilled with courage and fortitude. The couple work together to eventually solvean intricate case involving some surprising villains. The addition of Kayla's mother—Hillary,Kayla's three-year-old half sister—Olive, and Sasha, Kayla's trained therapydog, brought some rays of sunshine into this dramatic story.
