  MY REVIEW:⭐  ⭐  ⭐  ⭐  ⭐

An intense, intricate mystery filledwith heart-pounding action and a strong faith thread . . .

This octane-fueled launch to theauthor's newest series, 'Lake City Heroes,'has made me look forward to reading book two! I've read many of this author'snovels, but this is—hands down—my favoritestory yet.

Lainie Jackson is a Physician Assistantwho is trying to put the pieces of her life back together after a brush withdeath at the hands of her ex-fiancé, Adam Williams. Even with all she's been through,Lainie remains undeterred as she works to solve this mystery without allowinganyone else to get hurt in the process.

Lake City Police Detective James Cross washonorably discharged from the Army Criminal Investigation Division due to his wounds. Now he's back home in Lake City, North Carolina, and he's living with his bestfriend and partner, Cole, until he decides what he wants to do with his future. His family's dynamics have caused James to withdraw into himself, but whenLainie Johnson becomes someone's target James goes all out to save his sister'sbest friend.

I enjoyed the discussions between James and Lainieabout their faith journeys throughout the story because of their honesty and because of thepoignant truths they shared.

The story is completely clean inlanguage and content.

~ RARE JEWEL OF EVERLEIGH WHEATON ~

 💎💗🏡🔎🧩💎💗🏡🔎🧩💎

The Rare Jewel of Everleigh Wheaton JustRead Blog + Review Tour

Welcome to the Blog + Review Tour for The Rare Jewel of Everleigh Wheaton by Susan L. Tuttle, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

 About the Book

The Rare Jewel of Everleigh Wheaton

Title: The Rare Jewel of Everleigh Wheaton
Series:
The Treasures of Halstead Manor
Author:
Susan L. Tuttle
Publisher:
Kregel
Release Date: January 16, 2024
Genre:
Women's Fiction / Romance

In her search for a rare gem, will Everleigh end up uncovering the true treasure of her heart?

Personal care nurse Everleigh Wheaton knows it only takes a few well-placed lies to ruin a reputation. She's experienced it time and time again. But there's a silver lining to repeatedly proving herself: she's confident and self-reliant.

When she loses yet another job and an enigmatic stranger offers her a potential way out, she's game. After all, she loves a good mystery, and an invitation to visit the legendary Halstead Manor is irresistible. But she's not about to let her guard down--especially with the other women who received the same invitation.

A strange voice on the phone tells them he's gathered the three of them to work together as treasure hunters. The first assignment requires Everleigh to be a traveling nurse for retired FBI agent Gertrude Levine, who has one cold case she just can't let go of: the Florentine diamond that went missing when the Austrian Empire fell.

With Everleigh's keen ability to solve puzzles, Natalie Daughtry's vast knowledge of history, and Brooke Sumner's connections to the antiques world, they're bound to track down the diamond. Except that Gertie's nephew, Niles Butler, doesn't trust Everleigh's innocent act . . . even if he finds himself falling for her. Worse, Everleigh's walls of self-preservation may doom the entire team.

Hints of real-life historical events combined with contemporary characters make this first book in the Treasures of Halstead Manor series a masterful blend of romance, mystery, and strong female friendships. Readers of authors like Denise Hunter and Nicole Deese who enjoy unfolding relationships and the organic discovery of God's love will relish this new series.

EXCERPT:

As Everleigh left her second stop, her eyes snagged on avehicle in her rearview that raised her suspicion. By the time she pulled awayfrom her apartment, that suspicion was confirmed. Someone was following her.The same silver sedan had been on her tail since she’d pulled out of Kroger. Ifshe had her guess, Palmer had sent someone to watch her. Might as well find outif she was right.

Spotting a strip mall ahead anchored by a coffee shop,Everleigh pulled into the lot. She joined the drive-through line and ordered atoffee nut latte—might as well enjoy the excuse for a midday pick-me- up. Thesedan had parked at the far side of the lot, providing whoever sat behind thewheel with a perfect view of the exit. The way they’d parked, however, prevented them from seeing the end of the drive-through line.

Everleigh swung around and approached the sedan slowly. Ifshe thought about it too long, common sense could nix her impulse. Instead, shegunned it, parking at an angle with her passenger door practically touchingtheir front bumper. Taking off her sunglasses, she met the surprised gaze ofthe person who’d been following her.

“You!”

~ WRITTEN BY AUTHOR SHERRY ELLIS ~

5 Interesting Behind-the-Scenes Factsabout Bubba and Squirt’s City of Bones

1.    Bubba and Squirt’s City of Bones was originallywritten in past tense. After much thought, I changed it to present tensebecause I felt it would add to the suspense. Readers can experience theadventure along with Bubba and Squirt without knowing if it’s all going to turnout okay.

2.    Parisis a place I’ve visited many times, so naturally, I wanted to use it as asetting in one of my Bubba and Squirt Adventures. The underground catacombsseemed the perfect arrival place for them. Totally creepy!

3.    There’sa scene where Squirt is looking at a sculpture of a young ballerina (LittleDancer of Fourteen Years by Edgar Degas). She mentions that it’s the same oneon the necklace her grandmother gave her after her first dance recital. Thereal-life inspiration was when my daughter’s grandmother gave her that necklaceafter her first dance recital. It’s a special memory!

4.    Myfavorite treat in Paris is hazelnut, chocolate, and banana crepes. Streetvendors make them, and they are absolutely the best! Bubba and Squirt have somewhile they’re in Paris. I’ve shared the recipe in the back of the book soreaders can enjoy them at home.

5.    The original City of Boneswas called ArtThieves in Paris. It was written ten years ago and was intended to be partof an open-ended series. Since then, I’ve revamped the story line, making booksthree, four, and five of the Bubba and Squirt series part of a trilogy. Theoriginal story is still part of the final version, but I’ve added more magicand mythical creatures.

5 Interesting Facts about the Catacombsof Paris

1.    Thecatacombs of Paris are home to more than 6 million former Parisians.

2.    Thetunnels that make up the catacombs were once quarries for mining the gypsum andlimestone that were used to build the city.

3.    Thecatacombs are hundreds of miles long, but only 1 mile of them are consideredsafe and open to the public.

4.    Thenormal temperature inside the catacombs is about 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

5.    Thetunnels of the catacombs were used by Nazis and the French Resistance atdifferent times during World War II.

MY REVIEW: 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

The well-paced, engaging story of Bubbaand Squirt's latest adventure . . .

I previously read and reviewed theauthor's 'Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure,' the second book in this series. Ifeel this new book can be read as a standalone.

Once again, siblings Bubba and Squirthave a fun, amicable relationship as they work together to solve the mystery offinding their missing father.

The brother and sister dig up theentrance to a tunnel under the sycamore tree in their back yard so they cantravel to France. The passage about their journey will delight youngsters whoare fans of fantasy.

While in Paris the pair's adventuresgain momentum. With the help of some new friends who know the city very well,Bubba and Squirt wander through some of the great sites of Paris—the EiffelTower, the Museéd'Orsay, the Tuileries Garden, and the Louvre Museum. Readers are introduced todescriptions about French architecture, art, and some unexpected and creepyhistorical locales I didn't know about prior to reading this book!

The back matter in this book isextensive and exceptional. Facts about some of the sites and events in thestory are included along with a bibliography of books for children to readabout Paris. A Glossary of French Words, Numbers (English to Frenchtranslation), a Recipe, a Bibliography, and a Map of France will aid inanswering questions readers may have about the experiences of the maincharacters.

Highly-recommended for middle-gradereaders who are fans of fantasy, adventure, and historical fiction stories. Theauthor has filled this story with the rich history of France by blending factwith fiction. This book is completely clean in language and content.

I received a copy of this book from thepublisher. All of my thoughts and opinions shared here are solely my own.

~ Carrie's Fave Christmas Recs forKids & Adults ~ My good friend, Carrie Schmidt, is an Author, Book Reviewer, and a Blogger at 'Reading is My SuperPower.' She is also the co-founder of JustRead Publicity Tours.

CARRIE'S RECS FOR ADULTS:

My most recommended Christmas read is An EndlessChristmas by Cynthia Ruchti. There is such love and warmth and laughter andfriendship in this quick-read novella about a loving family, a misbegottenproposal, and the true meaning of Christmas. Ruchti’s engaging writing voiceand sense of humor bring the Binder family to life and make readers feel likewe’re right in the middle of the holiday celebration with them. One that willlinger in your heart long after you’ve finished reading.

My favorite Christmas romance is The MistletoeCountess by Pepper Basham. The heroine, Grace, is the most endearing protagonistever written. Her infectious openness, her imaginative-but-genuine heart, andher endless love of books are a true pleasure to discover on the pages. Add in Freddie's swoonilicious yet wounded soul, a hauntinghouse, and a few mysteries afoot… you enthralled from beginning to end. I lovedevery word and smiled BIG all the way through.

RECS FOR KIDS:

A recent fave children’s picture bookfor Christmas is Once Upon the Very First Christmas by country music singer & gentle farmer RoryFeek. He and illustrator Christine Cuddihy have beautifully captured thoseprecious & unpredictable moments that pop up in a children’s Christmaspageant. The bright colors, gentle farm scenes, and even a few chuckles tuckedaway in the pictures combine with the lyrical lilt of the text and the timelesshope of the Christmas story to make this a book that families will enjoyreading each holiday season!

A classic favorite of mine for kids atChristmas is The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. (Apparently I really enjoy children’s books set around Christmaspageants lol) This comedy of errors, complete with difficult-but-hurtingchildren and life lessons galore, will tug at your heart and your funny bone. What I love most about it is that the Herdman kids strip away the ‘churchanswers’ (because they don’t know them) and bring the story to the human level, helping us remember that it happened to real people just like us. Adults willlove it just as much – maybe even more – than the kids.
