Librarian Carrie Singleton must catch a killer before she can say “I do” in the 8th delightful installment in Agatha Award-nominee Allison Brook’s Haunted Library mystery series.

Carrie Singleton is ready to kiss the single life goodbye. Her wedding to Dylan Avery is just a few weeks away, and a happy ending is about to be hers. But when a body is found on the lawn of their wedding venue, happily-ever-after is looking deadlier than ever.

The victim turns out to be Billy Carpenter, a young man recently released from prison after serving time for a bank robbery. The stolen money he’d buried is gone and Carrie and the police suspect Billy’s two alleged co-conspirators, his friends Luke Rizzo and Tino Valdez. But then Luke is murdered and Tino is nowhere to be found.

With no leads and only a week to go before her big day, Carrie is on the hunt for clues. She hopes to wrap up this investigation with a neat bow before she and Dylan tie the knot. Carrie has something old, something new, and something borrowed ready for her walk down the aisle. Now she needs to find the killer without becoming the ‘something blue.’

 📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖  ~ Author Guest Post ~

ThoughI’ve never met a ghost, I’ve read enough about ghost sightings and hauntings tobelieve they exist. Experts in the field say some spirits remain earthboundbecause they’ve experienced a brutal or sudden death and don’t realize they’redead. Others remain here because they have unfinished business or issues theyneed to resolve before passing on. Ghosts, whether you believe in them or not, havea permanent place in our literary lore. Readers find their manifestationsunnerving, thrilling and intriguing. I include ghosts in some of my books.

As youwould expect from the title, there are a few ghosts in my Haunted Libraryseries. Evelyn Havers,a ghostly figure in her sixties, used to be an aide inthe Clover Ridge Library where my sleuth Carrie Singleton works. In fact, it isEvelyn who urges Carrie to consider accepting the position of head of programsand events instead of leaving town as planned. After getting over her shock thata ghost has spoken to her, Carrie accepts the job offer. Carrie and her littlecousin, it turns out, are the only people who can see and talk to Evelyn.

Evelynhelps Carrie ease in to her new position, and soon she is helping Carrie solvethe murder of a retired police lieutenant who has come to talk about a coldcase he now believes he's solved and is poisoned in front of his audience.Evelyn knows the people of Clover Ridge and many of their secrets. She providesCarrie with vital information, and together they analyze clues. However, whenEvelyn fears that her niece, the unpleasant reference librarian who resentsCarrie, might be the murderer, she withholds valuable information, at least temporarily.

Carrieand Evelyn continue to solve murders. Carrie even uncovers the real facts ofEvelyn's death in the library parking lot one cold and icy night.Theirrelationship deepens, and as the day of Carrie and Dylan's wedding approaches, Evelyntells Carrie she is the daughter her husband and she never had.

Thelibrary acquires the adjoining building for a much needed expansion. Thebuilding is derelict and requires a complete renovation. A body wrapped in ablanket is discovered in the basement. When a worker breaks through the joiningwall, the dead man's ghost enters the library. Unlike Evelyn, this ghost can beseen in a ghostly form. Agitated and disoriented, he causes a stir in thelibrary, fluttering pages and knocking books from shelves. Carrie and Evelyn quicklywhisk him to the library attic that's rarely used so he won't disturb thepatrons. The ghost turns out to be Dylan's uncle Alec. Carrie and Evelyn identifyAlec's murderer and Evelyn helps him move on. Evelyn remains in Clover Ridge, continuingto oversee the well being of the town and its residents.

WhenCarrie and Dylan are looking to buy a home, Carrie's great aunt and unclesuggest they look at a house quite close to the Singleton Farm where Carrieused to visit when she and her brother were young. Though the house isbeautiful and in good condition, it has been on the market for three years.Carrie and Dylan soon find out why. Two little ghost girls occupy the house and havebeen frightening prospective buyers. But they don't scare Carrie, or even Dylanwho knows of Evelyn's existence and has spoken to his uncle in his ghostly form.Carrie and Dylan decide to buy the house, and the little girls can't wait forthem to move in. Carrie has told them she'll get Evelyn to help them move on.

Do youknow of other series that have characters that are ghosts?

~ FRIDAY FEATURE 'WEAVING FAMILY HISTORY INTO FICTION' ~

~ FRIDAY SPECIAL FEATURE ~ --  'WEAVING FAMILY HISTORY INTO FICTION'  -- AUTHOR GUEST POSTS:June McCrary Jacobs & Carrie Schmidt

 💠💠💠💠💠💠💠

As I waspreparing to write this article, I realized just how much my readingpreferences as a child have informed my reading habits throughout my life.Historical fiction is still my go-to genre.

My favoriteauthors as a middle-grade reader were Louisa May Alcott and Laura IngallsWilder. Besides the fact that their stories were historical fiction, both ofthese women wove their personal family histories into their work. When I was ateen I read 'Christy' written by Catherine Marshall; it remains my favorite historicalnovel to this day. This author was inspired by her family's history to write apoignant story of a young teacher serving an Appalachian community by educatingtheir children.

In two of myown original Christian historical romance works, 'Handmade Hearts' and'Christmas in Bonita Creek,' I wove a thread of faith, love, and militaryservice based upon my extended family's journeys through life.

'HandmadeHearts' was inspired by my aunt and uncle's love story which began in NewOrleans during World War II. My uncle was a wounded Marine who met my aunt bychance at a church social one evening after he returned from Guadalcanal. Inthis short story the main character tells his new friend (my aunt) about theservice records of his two brothers.

💠💠💠💠💠💠💠

In'Christmas in Bonita Creek,' I wove different aspects of my uncle's World WarII and Korean War military experience into the lead male character and onesupporting male character.

When we worked together on his narrative for theVeterans History Project at the Library of Congress in the early 2000s, myuncle shared many deeply emotional and painful events from his combat years inthe South Pacific and Korea. He emphasized with great feeling how much hemissed being at home for Christmas (which happened four times in his longcareer in the military). As he related his experiences, I gained valuableinsight into the toll that combat takes on our soldiers. These insightsprompted me to approach the feelings and actions of my characters in adifferent light.

💠💠💠💠💠💠💠

My shortstory written for middle-grade readers, 'Penny Says Goodnight,' was published in my 'Banjo & More Pet Stories for Children' story collection and was inspired bya true story shared with me by two of my aunts about the family's pet Cocker Spaniel in New Orleans in the early to mid-1940s. They told me that theirbeloved pet, Penny, wandered through the house each night to make sure everyone wastucked into their own bed before she would snuggle down in her basket in thekitchen for the night.

Personallyknowing my relatives my entire life and hearing the excitement in their voices as they told metheir stories when I was a child and an adult gave me a deeper connection tothe characters I later created for my fiction. I've been told by readers thatmy heartfelt ties to these beloved relatives shines through in my writing.

Thank you for letting me share some treasured family memories with you! I have a special treat for all of you! My dear friend, Carrie Schmidt, is here to share her thoughts about this subject with you! Enjoy her guest post below.

💠💠💠💠💠💠💠

I reachedout to author, blogger, influencer, and co-founder of JustRead Publicity Tours,Carrie Schmidt, to ask her to share her perspective on authors weaving truefamily history into their fiction writing:

"Ithink readers love it when they know an historical fiction author has (looselyor otherwise) written a book based on their own family history. Pepper Basham,Laura Frantz, Amanda Wen, Patricia Lee, Marguerite Martin Gray, and CarrieFancett Pagels, among others, have written novels like this. For Basham andFrantz in particular, nearly every historical story each writes has a bit ofthe author’s family history in it, but it’s most prominent in Basham’s 'Laurel’sDream' and 'The Heart of the Mountains' and Frantz’s 'TheRose and the Thistle.' Wen’s 'Sedgwick County Chronicles' – a series ofsplit-time novels – is inspired by the author’s ancestry, as is Patricia Lee’s 'TheDescendant’s Daughter,' respectively. Marguerite Martin Gray tells her familystory in her 'Revolutionary Faith' series, and Carrie Fancett Pagels expands onher own ancestors from a similar era in 'Saving the Marquise’s Granddaughter.'For readers, this personal connection to an author’s story gives us a feelingof community and camaraderie that in turn leads us to continued investment inthat author’s career."

CarrieSchmidt isan avid reader, book reviewer, story addict, KissingBooks fan, book boyfriendcollector, and cool aunt. She also loves Jesus and THE Story a whole lot.Carrie started the popular blog ReadingIsMySuperPower.org in 2015 and sincethen has had the honor of co-founding the Christian Fiction Readers’ Retreatand JustRead Publicity Tours. MY REVIEW:

A complex tale filled with mystery andsuspense in Alaska's wilderness involving a twist from the past. . .

In this final installment of theauthor's 'Missing in Alaska' series, former FBI agent Ivy Elliott has returned to Alaska at the request of hermother. Her mother wants her find a missing Jack London manuscript from theearly 20th-century. Although Ivy is reluctant to return to the cold ruggedlandscape of Alaska, readers quickly learn that someone is pressuring her tofind the manuscript. Ivy does not want to let her mother down for severalreasons.

Nolan Long is a well-respected,experienced Alaska State Trooper, who is assigned to the missing person caseIvy inadvertently falls into when she arrives in Southeast Alaska. These twocharacters are definitely not strangers, and they discover that the spark they eachfelt when they originally met on another case has not died off.

This story is filled with amazing actionscenes, deep conversations between the two lead characters, dead ends, twistsand turns, deceit, betrayal—everything fans of this genre want to read. As for romance—thereis a tender and touching romance that blossoms as the story progresses. Familyrelationships play a large part in the arc of this story.

The author's descriptive writing of thesetting and action scenes is excellent! The faith thread is subtle, but everpresent. This book is completely clean in language and content.

MY REVIEW:

 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
A colorful, meaningful bedtime story forchildren to share with their families and caregivers time and time again . . .

Told by Mother Red Panda, this sweet boardbook about prayers for her little ones truly touched my heart. Her wishes forher children include a wide array of personality traits and life experiencesincluding having fun, being polite and kind, standing up for the right thing, working hard, and loving the Lord.

Rhyme, rhythm, and repetition are keybuilding blocks for early literacy in youngsters, and this author haseffectively provided a narrative which reinforces these three elements. He alsointroduces the concept of prayer in a way that young children will understandand enjoy.

The illustrator has created amazingillustrations filled with vibrant colors, fun background details, andexpressive faces on the wide variety of characters. I envision families andcaregivers playing 'I Spy' with young readers as they move through the engagingtext.

EXCERPT:

The familiar scentof new books triggered a cascade of memories. Yankee, her father’s loyalcharcoal lab, used to greet her at the door with enthusiasm. She half-expectedto see him running to her but nothing but silence greeted her. A wave ofloneliness washed over her, and she yearned for the comforting touch of the dogand the gentle thud of his tail against the floor and the warmth of hiscompanionship. She couldn’t help but wonder what may have happened to the olddog.

As she walked around to the back of thecounter, she tripped over a pile of books and papers scattered on the floor. She stopped to gather up the mess when a note in her father’s handwritingcaught her attention. She ran her finger over his perfect penmanship, realizinghim being gone was still too enormous to grasp.

It was like she was swimming through amuck of guilt and grief, trying to keep from drowning. If only she had stayedand faced her mistakes. Instead, she ran and hid her shame from her father andthe boy she truly loved.

The crack finally opened, and she fell back, hid her face in her hands, and let her heart shatter. Thirty minutes later, herbody ached from the aftershock of her emotional outburst. She had not beenprepared for how hard it was to step back into a life she could no longer sharewith her father.

Magazine crafts editor Anastasia Pollack may finally be able to pay off the remaining debt she found herself saddled with when her duplicitous first husband dropped dead in a Las Vegas casino. But as Anastasia has discovered, nothing in her life is ever straightforward. Strings are always attached. Thanks to the success of an unauthorized true crime podcast, a television production company wants to option her life—warts and all—as a reluctant amateur sleuth.

Is such exposure worth a clean financial slate? Anastasia isn’t sure, but at the same time, rumors are flying about layoffs at the office. Whether she wants national exposure or not, Anastasia may be forced to sign on the dotted line to keep from standing in the unemployment line. But the dead bodies keep coming, and they’re not in the script.

Craft tips included.

AUTHOR GUEST POST:

🎂🎈🎉 ~ How to Craft a CraftyBirthday Party ~ 🎉 🎈 🎂

By Lois Winston

I write theAnastasia Pollack Crafting Mysteries, a humorous amateur sleuth series where myprotagonist is the crafts editor at a women’s magazine. She’s also drowning in debtand dealing with a loan shark demanding fifty thousand dollars, thanks to herdeceased husband and his love affair with Lady Luck – an affair Anastasia knewnothing about until after he dropped dead in a Las Vegas casino. She thought hewas at a sales meeting in Harrisburg, PA.

That’s theopening of Assault with a Deadly Glue Gun, the first book in the series. Sinceit debuted in 2011, the series has grown to thirteen books and three novellas. Sorry, Knot Sorry, is the latest release. Each book features a differentcraft.

Even thoughAnastasia’s financial situation is more dire than most, most of us deal withbudgets. If you have young children, you know how expensive it is to throw abirthday party these days. Most of us aren’t rolling in the kind of dough ittakes to rent out the local cineplex or skating arena. We’re more the Play-dohand pizza dough types.

So what do youdo when it’s time to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of your very ownchip off the old block? Some parents tell their kids they can only invite asmall number of friends to a birthday party – five kids for the fifth birthday, six for the sixth, seven for the seventh, etc. Try explaining to a six-year-old thathe wasn’t invited to his friend’s birthday party because he didn’t make thecut.

Instead oflimiting the number of kids and causing all sorts of hurt feelings, as well asyears of therapy (don’t we parents always get blamed for everything?), plan aparty that doesn’t cost the equivalent of your next mortgage payment. Invite allyour child’s friends to a crafting party.

Forget the partyfavors. Instead, buy inexpensive T-shirts at your local crafts or big box store.Washthem ahead of time to remove the fabric sizing, but skip the fabric softener.

Depending onthe age of the kids, buy supplies for either sponge painting, rubber stamping,or fabric painting. Fabric markers or crayons work best for very young children. Supplybuttons, pompoms, or “jewels” for embellishment. Make sure the paints, inks, andglue are made specifically for working with fabric. Many white glues aren’twaterproof. Read the labels.

You’ll alsoneed a sheet of cardboard for each shirt (cut up those shipping or cereal boxesyou normally recycle) and either plastic grocery bags or plastic wrap to coverthe cardboard. Slip the cardboard into the shirt to keep the paint frombleeding through and the front from sticking to the back.

Working outsideat a picnic table is ideal, but if the weather isn’t cooperating, make sure youcover your floor with a plastic drop cloth and use one on the table.

Now, let thekids have fun. They’ll have a blast creating their own shirts and take home aparty favor that won’t break or be consumed within five minutes of leaving.

Afterwards, putyour feet up and relax with a glass of wine and Sorry, Knot Sorry, the newestAnastasia Pollack Crafting Mystery. 😀

ABOUT AUTHOR LOIS WINSTON:

USA Today and Amazon bestselling author Lois Winston began her award-winning writing career in 2006 with Talk Gertie to Me, a humorous novel about a small-town girl in Manhattan and the mother bent on bringing her home. That was followed by the romantic suspense Love, Lies and a Double Shot of Deception. Lois wrote her first mystery thanks to a conversation between her agent and an editor looking for a crafting-themed cozy series. Thus, was born the Anastasia Pollack Crafting Mysteries, which Kirkus Reviews dubbed, “North Jersey’s more mature answer to Stephanie Plum.” The series now includes thirteen novels and three novellas. To date Lois has published twenty-two novels, five novellas, several short stories, one children’s chapter book, and one nonfiction book on writing, inspired by the twelve years she worked as an associate at a literary agency.
