Owen R. O’Neil is a physicist, a writer, an amateur historian and the descendant of a long line of engineers. After three years working for the US Navy as a missile systems engineer, he became a member of the intelligence community and spent the rest of his career there. One of the last generation of Cold Warriors, he worked on topics as diverse as satellites, telecommunications, infrared semiconductors and C4ISR. He is an expert on technology projection and threat assessment, and did groundbreaking work on IW/IO before it was cool.

These days he writes, exercises a passion for photography he inherited from his father, and indulges in his two principal vices: cooking 'unhealthy' food and ferreting out exceptional but under-appreciated wines.

Joyel, thanks so much for asking.
The news on Book 5 is that it is progressing nicely (especially compared to the last book), but we do not yet have an anticipated release date. We estimate we are about three-quarters done with the draft, but (as always) the last mile (or 2) is the longest.

Thank you again for your interest! It is very much appreciated. (less)

It seems to me that reviews, as they are now commonly used, can cover a quite a bit of ground. They can, for example, be pretty much just a recommendation. They can be a purely statement of how a reader feels about a book, and how that book made them ...more

“The trouble is that we have a bad habit, encouraged by pedants and sophisticates, of considering happiness as something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil interesting. This is the treason of the artist: a refusal to admit the banality of evil and the terrible boredom of pain. If you can’t lick ‘em, join ‘em. If it hurts, repeat it. But to praise despair is to condemn delight, to embrace violence is to lose hold of everything else. We have almost lost hold; we can no longer describe a happy man, nor make any celebration of joy.”
