A French-British hybrid who grew up in Cornwall, a place saturated with myth and fantasy. Being a child of two cultures taught her everything she needed to know about trying to fit in at the same time as trying to stand out.

She speaks English and French, and can hold a vague conversation, usually about food, in Greek.

A random selection of favourite things: Terry Pratchett quotes, characters with questionable morals, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Häagen-Dazs cookie dough ice cream, anything Trent Reznor is remotely involved in even if it only extends to 'he once touched this artist's arm', bad 90s dance music and anything a bit weird (see: Davids Lynch and Cronenberg).

Cornwall is the kind of place that makes it easy to believe in magic. There are areas of the county that make you feel very small, and yet very connected to the ground underneath your feet. They have an atmosphere, those places, almost as if they weigh heavier on the universe. You go to somewhere like Tintagel (in legend, the birthplace of King Arthur under very dark circumstances) - stand on the cliff and look down at the coastline, where there's a bit of it that sticks out like a giant dragon's claw, and you become convinced you'll see a mermaid if you just stay there long enough.

Because of all this, Cornwall has always been a draw for the bohemian. It's packed with artists and surfers and hippies, which generates a particular kind of lifestyle. I grew up there in the nineties, when New Age spirituality was undergoing a huge resurgence, and my childhood was filled with people who meditated and performed Reiki and read Tarot cards as naturally as they ate lunch. It felt like counter-culture, you know - it felt like a rebellion towards what I understood to be the more normal world. It's a very alluring way to grow up :)

And this is a very long answer. I apologise.(less)

So.The Curses.Let me tell you about it. It's the sequel to The Graces, and it is finally, definitely on its way.It is told, this time, from Summer Grace's point of view, and it picks up events a couple of weeks after the ending of The Graces. So if you've read that, and you're wondering how the hell things will possibly go from that ending... you'll find out.I'm extremely proud of this book. It... Read more of this blog post »
