I love how light fades away at close of day, clings to every last thing it can to linger just a half second longer, then sighs, and let’s go gentle as you like, and evaporates. Oh could we be more like light, hold tightly but let go when we know it’s time, fearless, soft.

Art in the pouring,
coffee in the morning.
In the waking,
feet to floor to stairs,
art in the breathing
when you may not
wish to.

Art in the letting go,
refusing to carry.
In the washing of ourselves,
dirt like landslide
into drain.  
Art in the standing,
shivering cold and raised skin,
steam rising
volcanic from hair,
from shoulder blades,
from hips and
hands.  

Art in the starting over,
eyes closing
with no promise
of tomorrow.
