Our Marvelous Earth Suit
The address of every human being begins with: the Physical Universe, the Milky Way galaxy, the Solar System, and then planet Earth; which is our temporary home. According to the spirit guides it is also one of the least spiritually evolved planets in the cosmos. When I mention the spirit guides, I am referring to those spirit beings who have grown down from their lighter planes of existence to the heavier earth plane to communicate through their medium with the sole desire to enlighten the incarnated spirits presently roaming the earth.
The earth plane is dark and heavy in comparison to the higher planes of being, which are brighter and lighter. Higher planes of being are constantly fluctuating and blending into each other as they flow around the earth plane. The most constant message the world has received from the spirit guides is: “You are not a body with a spirit, but a spirit with a body.” The human body, our marvelous earth suit, allows us to live in the lower heavier earth plane.
The older deep-sea diving suits were basically a heavier body designed to house the human body so we could explore the depths of the oceans. It has an air hose attached to an air supply system on a boat floating above in a lighter sphere known as the atmosphere. Like the deep-sea diving suit, but far more complex, the heavier human body has been designed to house the spirit body so we can explore life in the denser earth plane. The indwelling spirit is also connected to a higher plane of existence by a silver cord, which when broken, according to the bible, releases the incarnated spirit, causing the human body, like all earthly things, to crumble; ashes to ashes and dust to dust.
The spirit guides say we visit the higher planes every night while our body is sleeping so we will become accustomed to the light when our tour of duty on planet Earth is over and we go Home. When our lessons on earth are over, when our silver cord is snapped, we will go Home to a higher plane of being, one that matches our level of spiritual awareness. These spiritual journeys go on every night while our body sleeps, which often awakens in the morning when our spirit body returns and enters our physical body. Here is my poem, at the head of the chapter entitled: The Brain, in my book, The Third Path:
Morning’s come…
.....It’s time to go back again
Leaving Home…
.....It’s such an awareness drain
Catching dreams…
.....Sliding down my silver chain
Pardon me…
.....While I slip into my brain.
The brain is the control center of the human body, which allows the inhabiting spirit to navigate the earth plane, and is far more complex than any computer operating system. All of our earthly experiences stem from the way the brain interprets the data collected from the body’s five senses. If a blow to the head results in a concussion, the brain’s observations will not be fully reliable and our body may not function properly until it heals, even though our inhabiting spirit remains completely unscathed. Nothing can harm our divine spirit, it is eternal. When spirit beings from the higher planes lower the vibrations of their spirit body to communicate with human beings on earth, they do not see us as we do, but as beings of light.
Your eyes are essentially cameras which collect visual data for the brain to process into images the indwelling spirit is capable of seeing. If the visual cortex of the brain is damaged we would see nothing, even though the eyes remain visually perfect. When you are taking pictures with your camera you sight through the lens and point the camera to the scene you wish to capture. Every day, in the same way, you point your eyes at what you want to see. The brain is content to instantly process the visual data, while constantly overseeing the myriad of functions needed to keep the body running smoothly. The brain is quite content to do its maintenance chores, and if you leave it alone–by sitting still to meditate or by lying down to sleep–that’s all it will do.
Back to the camera. You point your camera to capture a picture you would like to have and you turn your head to position your eyes to what you want to see. The brain is not selective. It doesn’t determine what you should look at, YOU do. The body is the slave, the spirit is the master. You have always been, and always will be, an eternal spiritual being. You use your body, your marvelous earth suit, to navigate your life while you are away from Home attending the University of planet Earth.

I'm Spiritual
When someone says, "I'm spiritual," I ask them what they mean. I get all sorts of answers. When I searched for "I'm spiritual" on the Internet I found many people had posted what being spiritual meant to them. Some said they were seekers of truth. Others said they found no comfort in organized religions, but still believed in a Higher power or felt they had a personal relationship with God. Others said they were spiritual because they had a close connection to the Universe or to Nature. Those practicing yoga and meditation saw themselves on a spiritual journey of self-discovery. A friend told me recently she considered herself spiritual because she helped others. Seems reasonable. How could anyone say Mother Teresa was not spiritual. But I have never heard anyone with the spiritual awareness to say, "I'm spiritual because I'm a spiritual being."
In my book, The Third Path, I write about different levels of spiritual awareness, which I categorized into five levels of spiritual growth: I Want, I Believe, I Doubt, I seek and I Know. We have within us some quantity of every level of spiritual awareness. We all have needs and probably a closet full of unexamined beliefs we have nurtured since childhood. We doubt often as we climb the ladder of spiritual awareness, sometimes simply because we did not sleep well the night before. We seek when we have the time, when the daily grind is over, when the children are in bed, when there's nothing on television, when we are alone with our dreads. The following might be the thoughts of those at different levels of spiritual awareness as they walk through a rose garden:
I Want - I wonder how much I could get for these roses.
I Believe - God created roses when He created the world and everything in it.
I Doubt - Roses evolved from wild flowering shrubs, but most garden varieties are hybrids.
I Seek - How could anything as beautiful as a rose happen purely by chance?
I Know - Roses, like all life on Earth, are physical manifestations of spirit.
When we seek spiritually it often means we have doubts about our past beliefs and are now seeking. It may be years before we come to know the truth of what the French Jesuit priest Pierre Teihard de Chardin observed, "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience." Every night as you lay down to sleep remind yourself you are a spiritual being. Do this also during the quiet pauses in your day. I found this to be a comforting reminder of the true nature of our human experience and a catalyst for spiritual growth and awareness.
Many years ago I made it a habit to seek spiritually throughout my life. Over time I became closer to spirit. Doors opened to me, new people came into my life and I began to mingle with those spiritually seeking. Within a few years I was holding a home circle for those wishing to communicate with spirit to develop their psychic abilities–we are all psychic. Now, at every opportunity, my spirit guides–everyone has spirit guides–remind me I am a spiritual being, so often and in so many ways there is no space to relate them all. But here is one which occurred five years ago.
I was born in Victoria BC, but I spent most of my working life in Eastern Ontario. I retired in 1995. A year later I left to go back to my western roots. Before getting into my car to start my journey home, I gave my brother a warm caring hug in the driveway. I didn't know this would be the last time I would see him, we frequently conversed by telephone and email; he died in November 2010. Two days after his death I quickly marched through the front room to get back to my work in the den when I walked right into his invisible, but materialized, spirit body. I could feel him hugging me, as though he was solid, the exact same hug he gave me 14 years before, and then he slowly melted away.
My brother is now living in his spiritual Home. People often say, “I want to get this done while I’m still alive.” As the spiritual beings we are, we are always alive. When the spirit guides look down upon the earth they do not see us in human form, but as beings of light. They say the world of spirit is the reality, the world of matter is the illusion. The more you come to realize the spiritual nature of who you are, the more spiritually aware you become. Once you are aware you cannot become less aware. It may take years of seeking before you come to know, and not just believe, you are a spiritual being. But the next time someone asks you what you mean when you say, "I'm spiritual," you may want to tell them, "I'm spiritual because I'm a spiritual being…like everyone else on this planet."
