I recently hinted at some exciting news (http://ow.ly/mwgzk ). That news was being @Freshly_Pressed by the WordPress.com editors. Now, there's something else coming!
My @Freshly_Pressed essay — "Is This Failure?" — just reached 100 likes, and has 55 comments thus far. You can read it here: http://ow.ly/mq4qU
Is This Failure? While house- and pet-sitting in a tucked-away place in the Lake District, I’ve been reading a collection of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s letters, and it, coupled with our slow-traveling situation, has had me thinking about failure — what it is, whether I’ve found it, or whether, in fact, it’s something which one achieves only when one has succumbed to it. In other words, is it possible that failure cannot be put upon a person but is, rather, a garment with which one can only clothe one’s self?
At the very time of writing this post I should be leading a writing workshop in Lancaster, just outside the Lake District, in Lancashire.

Writers-in-Residence@Yours!
If you've always liked the idea of dropping into the conversation that you've got a couple of writers-in-residence staying with you for a short time, then why not take a look at this possibility?Alternatively, if you'd like to bring a Write from the Heart writing workshop to your town, then do get in touch — we'd love to hear from you!
Tonight, I'm writing a review of Paul Scott's Booker Prize-winning novel Staying On (1977) — his final book and coda to The Raj Quartet.
So stay tuned ...
With warm regards,
Sean
Hello friends,Can you perhaps help us connect with folk?
We're looking for house-sitting and pet-sitting opportunities in the South East of England, and the British Isles generally, in support of our Spring/Summer 2013 British Isles Writing Workshop Tour.
You'll find more information here.
With warm regards,
Sean & Mufidah
Mufidah and I are presently house- and cat-sitting for a couple friends in our old hometown of Lewes, East Sussex — while organizing writing workshops here in the South East of England, and beyond.
Anyway, our friends have a good collection of books, and I noticed they have a copy of Paul Scott's Staying On, the Booker Prize-winning follow-on novel to Scott's likewise critically acclaimed Raj Quartet.
You can read more about my reading the Raj Quartet here. But while I've had a copy of Staying On for years, I've not, for some reason, read the whole of it. High time I do so.
I'm only a quarter of the way through the novel at this point, but it's quintessential Paul Scott — topnotch writing and characterization based upon a thorough knowledge of post-Raj India — with an extra dose of wry humor thrown into the mix.
Looking forward to continuing with it.
Presently reading "The Art of Non-Conformity" by Chris Guillebeau http://ow.ly/krrKs — given to me this week by a stranger, now friend.... Despite my life having been, for decades, off the non-conformity map.
As of this past Thursday, Mufidah and I are back in England, after 11 months thus far of slow traveling in Europe, with no end in sight.A week-and-a-half ago we drove out of Burgos, Spain — where we'd been living for about seven-and-a-half months — and continued on to and through France, stopping off in the Dordogne to run a 2-day writing workshop in St Julien d'Eymet.
On Thursday we arrived in Dover via ferry and drove to Hastings, where we led a writing workshop this past Saturday at The Beacon, a lovely venue where the sun shined magically and we decided to hold the whole of the workshop on the lawn, overlooking the sea and wide horizons beyond Hastings below.
We'll be in the British Isles this spring and summer running our Write from the Heart writing workshops. So, if you'd like to help us bring a workshop to your neck o' the woods, do get in touch!
You can learn more about our Spring/Summer 2013 British Isles Writing Workshop Tour here:

Thank you to everyone for all your Goodreads friendships and support this past week! I really appreciate being connected with you all here. With warm regards,
Sean
