When she realized there might be no escape from hairy tarantulas and bad guys with guns, she decided to write about them instead, finishing her first mystery novel with custom illustrations when she was eight.
A graduate of the University of North Texas, she put the writing on hold for a while when real life got in the way (i.e.—she met and married her Canadian husband and headed north for maple-flavored goodies and real beer). She highly recommends moving to another country and not being able to work for a year for finishing any novels you may have laying around.

I continue to write something, anything until the way becomes clear. In my genre (real people's lives seen through my eyes), I sketch out a timeline of real events, then skip around and write whatever I'm in the mood for that day. I arrange and rearrange until I'm happy with what's there. (less)

I’m so excited to announce that the long-awaited audio book for The Forgotten Flapper is now available!

Jen Taylor from Cedar House Audio narrates, and she did a marvelous job creating the perfect Olive Thomas in the audio book!

She captured multiple voices, accents, and personalities in such a delightful way. I’m so pleased with the result!

"A long, rambling (in a good way) novel about the life of a battle-damaged soldier from WWI who takes a job as a history teacher at a remote boys boarding school. I’ve never read “Goodbye, Mr. Chips” but it’s similar to that, but, I’d imagine, a deepe" Read more of this review »

“It's like making a sandwich. I start with the bread and the meat. That's the architecture. Add some cheese, lettuce and tomato. That's character development and polishing. Then, the fun part. All the little historical details and the slang and the humor is the mayonnaise. I go back and slather that shit everywhere. The mayo is the best part. I'm a bit messy with the mayo.”

“I'm not a very good writer. But I'm a HELLUVA re-writer.”

“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.”

“Books aren't written - they're rewritten. Including your own. It is one of the hardest things to accept, especially after the seventh rewrite hasn't quite done it.”
