Writer’s Block

I have a question for all you authors out there: do you believe in writer’s block?

Has there ever ben a time where you just couldn’t write? Where absolutely no inspiration came to you whatsoever? Why do you think that happened? Was it writer’s block, or was it something else?

I know that last winter I found myself with free time on my hands, yet I was unable to write. I don’t know why that was. I wanted to write. But I couldn’t. I tried adding to one manuscript, but nothing sounded right. It was hard for me to edit or write new books, too.

Has this happened to you? What did you do?

Review: The Night I walked off of Boot Hill

Reblogged from lesimonis:

As someone who isn't entirely drawn to the Western style, I was pleasantly surprised with "The Night I walked off of Boot Hill" by Briana Vedsted. The main character Tom, an outlaw who had a final run in with the law and thinks he's a ghost, goes on a sort of journey with Jim, a kid he finds alone in a saloon.

What my editor said…

Here’s a quick update on my book, Me And Billy the Kid. Here’s what my editor had to say about the whole:

The story is very interesting as it involves real life stories or certain infamous people in history. The story itself can ignite an interest in the history of the situations that you wrote in the book. I believe you were able to accomplish your goal of making the readers think this story is true as I, myself, was lead to doubting the written history and in believing that what you wrote in this manuscript is the real deal. The happenings and the people involved were so smoothly meshed that if a reader who doesn’t know anything about the Battle of Lincoln could natural believe this as the behind-the-scenes story. The characters are all authentic and coincides with those stated in history, so too with events and the actions. I commend you for writing a very amusing and interesting book. The text is short and so easy to read that it becomes page turning.”

How cool is that? I’m VERY happy with this. Especially since it came from an editor. I have a lot more confidence in my writing abilities now!!!

My crazy week

So I do have a few goals, but my schedule is so crazy, I doubt I’ll get much writing done.

Monday: Gather cows. Change water. Water my garden and check the live trap for squirrels and raccoons.

Tuesday: Sort, pair, and haul cows to permit. Change water.

Wednesday: Must have monthly column for the Fence Post e-mailed to my editor. Hopefully not have to do anything else with cows. Change water. Water garden.

Thursday: Get done with the first round of manuscript editing and e-mail my other editor with my changes. Change water. Water garden. Maybe be able to plant the rest of my garden.

Friday: Change water. Water garden. Not sure what else yet.

Also this week I need to: get some new blog posts written and go through my Reader. Maybe write some chapters of my new western book or edit my werewolf book. I doubt that will happen, but my fingers are crossed. And hopefully next weekend I’ll do something fun. Maybe go to the pond and try out the new kayaks. So wish me luck, and good luck to you all, too!

Flashback

While out and about with my family today, for some reason, I suddenly remembered something from the past. (Kind of makes me sound old, doesn’t it?)

Does anyone remember a long time ago when you could mix and match a six-pack of soda while shopping at City Market? For example, you could get a root beer, two cream sodas, an orange, a cherry, and a grape soda. I’m not exactly sure if you can still do that now, (I can’t at my local City Market, anyway) but I remember it was pretty darn neat.

Okay, that concludes my flashback for the day. ;)

Today, I have a guest blog from Briana Vedsted a young author who is working on getting her first officially published.  Her book is a Western entitled 'Me and Billy the Kid' and she has done a lot of research for this.  I asked her to write a guest blog about how important research is when writing historical fiction and if she had any advice for aspiring authors that want to write in this genre.

Without You

Reblogged from The Community Storyboard:

I am so lucky to have been welcomed into the Land of Worpress and virtually embraced by so many wonderful people.

The other day as I was searching the web for quotes about friendship, and I came across this one that just made me stop and smile. I used a line similar to this in one of my books, and have felt this way about my family for as long as I can remember.

I’m an Author

Today I got an e-mail from my editor with his edits, comments, and suggestions. And while sitting here working on my manuscript, I finally feel like a real writer.

I’m an author now! My book is at long last taking shape.

I have a beautiful cover, I couldn’t be happier with it. The cover artist took my ideas and transformed them into a masterpiece. And now, my editor has read through my book and given me a few suggestions. I was actually pleasantly surprised when I got the e-mail, that there was not that many recommended edits/changes. And apparently, my grammar wasn’t all that bad either! I have not read this book since I finished writing it last summer and have not even opened the document since submitting it to the publisher in November. So today, going through the pages, reliving the days in which I wrote this book, I’m happier than I have been in quite awhile. What a joyous day!

To write a book takes time. A lot of time. But it is a labor of love. I love my job. And most importantly, I love my book. I can only hope there will be thousands of other people who love this book as much as I do. ;)
