When I’m with you,

eternity is a step away,

my love continues to grow,

with each passing day.

This treasure of love,

I cherish within my soul,

how much I love you…

you’ll never really know.

You bring a joy to my heart,

I’ve never felt before,

with each touch of your hand,

I love you more and more.

Whenever we say goodbye,

whenever we part,

know I hold you dearly,

deep inside my heart.

So these seven words,

I pray you hold true,

“Forever And Always,

I Will Love You.”

My Game Plan

Three Mamas with big hearts

That is the founding principle of the Good Hope Support Organisation as I see it. Three ordinary Tanzanian women, each of whom have their own difficult life story to tell, lives which accept living with poverty as the norm and abject poverty as commonplace.

I have no idea how these women have managed to scrape together the wherewithal to do what they do on a daily basis. They started in 2011 and have remarkable tales of achievements within that time. In all that time the mamas have not been paid a penny or even Tanzanian shilling (which has much less value that a good old penny), they fuel the operation on their love and passion and this has inspired the many volunteers that pass through their doors to go home and “do something” to help. I thank each and every one of them for that…

New Q & A on Kev’s Blog

Kevin Cooper at Kev’s Blog made my day last week by posting a Q & A with me about my book and how I came to write it. His questions made me think, and I appreciated the opportunity. The best part is connecting with new people who have lots of different interests and backgrounds—the reason I started blogging two years ago.

You’ll find interesting reading on Kev’s blog: music, book reviews, Q & A with new writers, and much more. I hope you’ll check out my Q & A and take a look at Kev’s blog!

Here are a few examples of the questions and answers:

Kevin:How long have you been writing for?
You could say I’ve been writing my entire adult life including working on my own personal projects and during my career as a writer, editor and communications specialist for corporate and non-profit organizations. Most recently, I…

Short Story – Getting away with murder.

Originally posted on Smorgasbord - Variety is the spice of life:

I originally wrote this short story ten years ago and recently edited – I was very obese for many years and eventually weighed 330lbs or 150kilos. 20 years ago I made some life changing decisions because of health issues and I wrote this story four years later.

GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER.

On my forty-third birthday, I murdered a woman. She made me do it. For over fifteen years, she had made my very life, a misery and a mockery. This woman had bullied and forced me into behaviour that had made me ashamed and fearful for my life and sanity. She jeopardized my health and destroyed my self-esteem.

As I stand before you, I freely admit to this killing. I realise that this is my chance to have my say, to explain and to acknowledge this deed of mine. Firstly, let me say that, given the chance, I would kill…

WHY I support and encourage Authors

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I believe Sir Terry Pratchett may have had an excellent point when he surmised that OUR species of Hominid survived, while all the others didn’t, because we were , or at least better at telling, and learning through, stories!

I’m not the only one who thinks so, “Our brains are structured to make sense of the world in the form of narratives – stories. Not only that, we are primed to believe the stories we hear.” see the re-blogged post last Thursday HERE!

I concede that there are probably other factors involved as well, but storytelling was (and hopefully still IS) a significant part of our species survival strategy.

If we cease to tell and learn from stories, then we too may become extinct because without them we will have created our very own ELE (Extinction Level Event).

I think this may have summed up the reaction of quite a few people at the time, even those without pointy ears!  Terrific editing and very funny.

Meet My Main Character Blog Tour

I’ve been tagged by the hugely inspiring author of Tally: An Intuitive Life, Mary Clark, to take part in a Meet My Main Character blog hop. The rules of this hop are to answer some questions about the main character in a work in progress, and then tag authors who you admire to join the hop if they want to.

The Questions:

1. What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?

I’ve decided to introduce my main character in the first stand alone book in my Ghostwriter series. Her name is Judith. Although she is the main character in the whole series of books, her clients get most of the space.

2. When and where is the story set?

This book is set in the present in South Africa. Most of the books in this series are set here, although Judith does get around and about in some of them.

3. What should we know about him/her?

Judith is a ghostwriter specialising in memoirs. Her clients are mainly elderly and rich. She is really good at what she does, charges highly for her work, and lives very well. Most of the stories she takes down are humdrum, but occasionally she’ll come across a special client, with a very special tale to tell.

4. What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?

She tries very hard not to get emotionally involved with her clients. Unfortunately, under a tough, glossy, professional exterior, Judith is a softy, and sometimes finds herself entangled in the lives of strangers who have captured her heart.

5. What is the personal goal of the character?

She believes that her goal is to do what she does as well as she can, and earn enough money to live very comfortably for the rest of her life. Unfortunately her personal goalposts tend to move when she comes across certain lives.

6. Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?

This book is called Emmaline, and I’ll post a piece of it when it’s a little more polished in a couple of weeks. Its cover will be a little different to the one it currently has though.

LB2 sized 2ab (2)

7. When can we expect the book to be published?

Soon – definitely this year.

And now I’m tagging authors whose words I love to read, and if they choose to take on this challenge they will post their own Meet My Main Character blogs next week, and tag the authors who rock their boats. I generally don’t ask for permission to tag authors even though you won’t get future links if they choose not to partake. I just choose those writers who I admire, and whose processes I especially want to know more about. Here they are.

Sally Cronin always blows me away with the things she does. It’s amazing to be really brilliant at just one thing, but Sally is an expert on health and nutrition, and publishing – not to mention that she’s hosted real live on air radio shows. She’s a popular author too, so I’m hoping she’ll partake in this hop, and most important of all, she’s my lovely forever friend.

Another author whose current work in process I’d love to poke my nose in is Janice Spina. Again she is one of those busy authors who always finds time to support and recognise Indie writers. It takes a special kind of person to write for children, and do it so well. It’s not surprising that we all love authors like this – they’re just inspiring in every way.

Completing my triad of powerfully talented authors is Olga Nunez Miret. I’m a little starstruck by Olga. She’s a brilliant author, but I hasten to add, also a translator, and forensic psychiatrist. With all of that, she is another wonderful, kind soul who always makes the time to boost and support all the rest of us. Rockstar in my book.

My Writing Process Blog Hop

Thank you to my good friend Conrad Brand for tagging me on a My Writing Process Blog Hop. As well as writing for The South African, where he gets to meet and interview interesting and often famous people, he is also an author and publisher. He runs Springbok Publications, who are the publishers of the Plight of the Rhino anthology, full of stories, poems, and art from amazingly talented creatives around the world. The purpose of this book is to donate the profits to the Save the Rhino fund, so all contributing authors and artists obviously worked without expectation of payment, wanting to help those poor disappearing rhino guys in any way they could. My contribution to this book is the short story Nkoninkoni, a story of Africa, a little boy, and a mystic wildebeest that shows him that being small doesn’t have to mean you’re powerless.
