Are typos in a book a big deal?

Of course they are to some extent! Typos happen. Typoshappen in books that are self-published and traditionally published. Typos happen to new authors and seasoned authors.Typos happen in eBooks and print books. It doesnt matter how many people you have edit, proof read, re-read, etc. there is always a chance a typo (or two or three or four) is going to slip through. Does that mean the world is over, the author should never write again, or that the

Barsetshire Diary Reviews.

jorobinson176:

Get a wonderful book from a witty, wise, and wonderful author for your new year!

Originally posted on barsetshirediaries:

I admit Im not very good at the promotion of my books also at checking reviews. Today I was reminded that a review of my first book is on most of the Amazon sites and in an effort to promote it I add a link to not just the review in question but to all of them. Like many authors I tended to think that once the book was written, my responsibility is over. Not so, theyre like little babies that need nurturing and like proud parents were expected to delve into our pockets for photographs to show at any opportunity.

My Barsetshire Diary is a gentle romp through the vagaries of life in a small village where one might be asked to officiate at the jam making competition at the local village fete. It may just be the place where one competitor is determined to win whatever the cost

Book Review – Echoes of Narcissus in the Gardens of Delight by Jo Robinson

A massive thank you to my lovely friend Sally for posting this wonderful and insightful review of Echoes of Narsissus in the Gardens of Delight. Its very first one!

I dont give people stars for their reviews for the books that I read. However, for me a book has to deliver three key elements to engage my interest in the first place and keep me reading to the end. These three elements are Physical, Mental and Emotional connection to the story, characters and narrative.

jo-robinson-photo-1-21

Even if I was not familiar with Jo Robinsons writing in other books, her blog and her social media posts, and was reading her work for the first time I would certainly be emotionally drawn in.

Donna is the main character of Echoes of Narcissus and from the first time you meet her you know and feel both her fear and her pain. This empathy is not drawn from a text book description of how the victim of a narcissistic personality feels, but from some experience and deep understanding of this form of corrosive relationship

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! 2014 Was a crazy, wonderful year for me. Lots of stressful, scary things happened, but other things happened too that were more wonderful and unexpected than I could have ever hoped for. So I have only gratitude and not a single regret for last year, as well as a much firmer belief that many of the things that happen in our lives are most definitely not random.

Online Ive had a ball, meeting new friends, entrenching old friendships, and meeting new friends that instantly became old friends. Lifes funny fantastic like that sometimes. Ive learned a lot, and grown a lot, and am a little more comfortable in my skin now than I was for a while. For my goals for 2015 I definitely plan on firstly being careful with treating myself like a new recruit in the army and piling on the pressure, as is my way. One thing Im definitely planning on doing is spending a bit more time with my art and photography. Ive wanted to write and illustrate a childrens book for ages now, so thats definitely in the works for this year, and some of the designs Ive been playing with I might start selling as one off premade ebook cover art too. Shadow People two and three, a few more short stories, Princesses Africolonial Cuisine tongue in cheek recipe book needs to be finished, and a couple mainstream books are all in the pipeline, so Im looking forward to it all.

I want to thank all of you for sharing your worlds with me, and allowing me to share mine, but mostly for being the awesome friends that you are. You’ve taught me, made me happy, made me sad sometimes, and made me laugh. Your support and friendship means the world to me, and I wish you only joy and success in all that you do – Im happy and grateful to be with you for the ride. Here’s some crazy doodle memories of my 2014.

Writers Resolutions

Originally posted on Lit World Interviews:

Happy New Year fellow scribblers! Its that brand new shiny first day of another new year, sprinkled with fairy dust, hope, and endless possibilities. Writers all over the world are cracking open the first page of their special edition unicorn diary and filling it with resolutions for the year to come. Some writers are also staunchly refusing to write that list on the grounds that these things just set you up for disappointment when you fail to reach all your goals. I see their point, which is why my resolution for this year is to not set myself unrealistic goals. For those of us who like a challenge, Ill share a couple of my favourites.

Be Gentle with Yourself

If youre going to set yourself deadlines to publish, or minimum daily word counts for this year, its a good idea to err on the side of caution. Just because you

Mainstream vs. Self-Publishing 2014 – The numbers are looking very interesting.

Very interesting facts and figures of traditional versus self-publishing from Sally today,

Mainstream Publishing vs. Self-Publishing

As 2014 comes to an end here is a brief look at the year in publishing and some interesting statistics are emerging about the figures associated with Mainstream Publishing vs. Self-Publishing. We tend to keep track of the progress within the industry as our involvement in Self-publishing began in 2001 with one of the largest Canadian publishers before we established Moyhill in 2004. I was with an agent for two years with my first book back in 1999 and I made the decision to self-publish following that experience.

There is no doubt that for some writers the mainstream option is still the way to go and we advise all authors who approach us to do their research on both alternatives before making their final decision. Here are some of the areas that we encourage authors to consider before deciding which route they will take when publishing

Psychological Trauma by Author Ryder Islington

Originally posted on Chris The Story Reading Ape's Blog..... An Author Promotions Enterprise!:

We all know that major events in our liveswhether good events or badchange us as people. A victim of a crime, a spouse in a violent marriage, a couple going through an ugly divorce, a parent who has lost a childall of these people are changed by the events they go through.

RI 01

A close friend of mine was recently in an auto accident wherein someone passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. I watched my friend go from an easy going, funny, content man, to a sad, quiet, withdrawn man. The accident wasnt his fault. And his physical injuries are healing nicely. But his mind is much more damaged, and healing much more slowly. Psychological trauma can be so devastating that the victim can no longer cope with life, while the same trauma may make the next person stronger.

We tend to judge others by how

My Favourite Things

When I was invited by fellow author Kylie Betzner to share some of my favourite moments from my debut novel Dorys Avengers, I jumped at the opportunity. In case youre unfamiliar with Dorys Avengers, a brief synopsis would be as good a place as any.

A brutal regime. A docile population. A glimmer of hope.

In a stifled and oppressed Britain, where freedom of choice is but a distant memory, the dictatorial Sponsors reign supreme. Headed by the malevolent Lord William, a man whose cruelty knows no bounds, the Sponsors dictate every aspect of life to their fearful and brainwashed public. For over quarter of a century the Sponsors power has grown exponentially. Surely all

Festive wish lists – One for Santa and one for the New Year!

Originally posted on Smorgasbord - Variety is the spice of life:

I think of New Years resolutions in the same vein as Santas present wish list. They are wishes for riches, beautiful bodies, George Clooney look alikes, sunshine every day, new jobs, happiness and other gifts we feel have been lacking in the previous year. There are of course purists who will spend hours refining their list and there will be a few noble causes in there too. The average New Years Resolution has faded away by mid-February along with the diet and the search for George Clooney!

The reality is that making a list of 20 wishes for 2015 will usually result in disappointment and failure. Instead some years ago I created a Must Do list. Just three projects that I will complete in 2015 giving myself the whole year to achieve it. This year the must dos are Sell our House in Madrid, Maintain my current weight and
