You Are Worthy, Deserving, and You Matter

You are Worthy, Deserving, and You Matter

In our fear-based society, this is an important fact to find, maintain, and grow positivity from.

One of the most positive things you can know is that you matter and that you are worthy and deserving of finding, having, and/or creating an amazing life.

you matterI know that life is seldom easy. You and I are in a constant struggle with forces both internal and external to get from here to there. But that does not lessen this truth, and recognizing it can go a long ways towards making the most of life.

You may be thinking to yourself, no, you are wrong – I am NOT worthy or deserving, nor do I matter. Well, that’s simply not the truth. Let me tell you why (and frankly remind myself, too).

You are worthy

Forces scientific and metaphysical put you on this earth, in this time, for a reason. You may or may not know what that reason is, but here you are. That alone is the first sign that you are worthy.

Worthy of what? You are worthy of finding, creating, and walking any given path in this life you might desire. You are worthy of being happy. There is nothing you are not worthy of making for your life.

The Universe is abundant. The lack and scarcity of our fear-based society is an artifice designed by many of the “haves” to keep the “have-nots” from getting what the “haves” would prefer not to share.

Money is a perfect example of this. Think money is limited? What IS money? Nowadays it is an idea that is no longer based on a physical “gold standard” that can be as abundant or lacking as you choose to make it. AND, most of all, you are worthy of having it, no matter what background you come from.

Which brings me to the second point.

You are deserving

You and I are frequently being inundated with images of people who are held up against society as the most deserving of ‘x’, ‘y’ or ‘z’. The reason given is because they come from the right family, a proper social background, a certain nation, the right education, because of how they look, and multiple artificial and superficial matters.

But why is anyone more deserving of good in their lives than anyone else? Because there is only so much to go around? Since that’s simply untrue, that doesn’t fly. “They” want you to believe in lack and scarcity largely because they are afraid of losing their power, sovereignty, superiority, or whatever other bullshit concept they believe makes them more deserving.

The truth is that you ARE deserving of living the best life you can and being the best you that you can be. Massages to the contrary that you receive are not the truth. Why? Because you are here. Because you are here you are deserving of living a full life, however that looks for you. Nobody is greater nor lesser than anyone else, and all of us are deserving of positivity.

Which brings me to the third point.

You matter

I know that this can be really hard to accept. You look at the world around you, see all these people who are held up as important and oh-so-big, and it’s all too easy to think, damn, am I insignificant.

This is not true. YOU matter. Why? Because you are here. You may or may not know what it is you contribute to the world at large, but that is not important to whether or not you matter. The fact is that you are here, and as such you do matter to the world at large.

you matterThere is no need for you to be a mogul, celebrity, athlete, or other person in the spotlight – just by being here you DO matter. That is all the reason for you to have positivity in your life.

I know that the world seems crazy sometimes and that this can be enormously challenging. But you are worthy and deserving of whatever reality you seek to create – because you matter. You are here, you are not a burden on anyone, and you are free to make the choices that provide you with the best life you can have.

The Universe loved you enough to bring you here, now. If you were unworthy, undeserving, and did not matter, why are you here? Because you are meant to be, and that means you have something to share with this world. You do not have to be well-known or particularly special, you are, and that is what’s most important.

Take that for the positivity that it may generate, and be the best you that you can be.

Finding positivity in who you are is not hard, but it does require action

Knowing that you are worthy and deserving of finding and/or creating the best life that you can and that you matter, you can work with the abundance of the Universe. When you work with abundance from a place of knowing you matter, you can uncover things that make you feel good and make any changes that you desire to, which ultimately empowers you. When you feel empowered, your mindfulness increases, you become more aware overall, and that tends to spread to other people around you.

As such, you can build more positive feelings and discover more things to feel positivity and gratitude for.

Gratitude leads to happiness. Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude. An attitude of gratitude is an attitude of positivity that begets even more good energies – and that, like you, is always worthwhile.

Nobody Can Be “On” All the Time

Nobody Can Be “On” All the Time

Even when you are walking your chosen path, this includes you.

Working on walking your own path in this life takes time and energy. A lot goes into the necessary mindfulness and positivity required to consciously create your reality. But for all that work, and with all the time and energy invested, you still need to take breaks and pause along the way.

I know some people who seem to only ever have two modes. “On” or asleep. When they are “on” they are energetic, tend to energize others and appear to be utterly reliable, ready for anything that comes their way, and solid. If they are not “on” then they are getting some sleep.

That should be proof right there that nobody can be “on” all the time. Yet who do you tend to most expect to always be “on” and doing their work? You, of course.

In all probability, the person whom you have the highest expectations of is yourself. As such, when you do not meet your own expectations, you tend to come down on yourself pretty hard. Likely far harder than you would come down on someone else.

But the truth is that nobody can be “on” all the time, least of all you.

Why do we need downtime?

Even though you are made of energy, and energy can never be created nor destroyed, the meatsuit that you occupy on this planet needs sustenance to function.

This is not simply about consuming calories and sugar for fuel, it also includes learning new things and expanding the mind as well.

You might have the most spectacular car ever…but as soon as it runs out of fuel, what you have is an expensive paperweight. Fuel is an absolute must for your car’s performance, and that’s true for you as well.

Fuel comes in multiple forms for human beings. Food, rest, information, entertainment, and any other absorption of nutrients or information. These refuel the mind, body, and spirit so that you can continue to work on things that matter to you.

A lot of people, however, are not so good about taking downtime for this purpose.

I used to be like this. In fact, I still can be. Work through lunch. Check email while taking a rest. No stopping because I need to be “on.”

But downtime is a necessity. Why? Because if you are “on” all the time, inevitably you WILL break down.

What does breaking down look like?

This is entirely dependent on the individual. For some people, it’s a sugar or caffeine crash. For others, it’s losing time due to exhaustion. Some people get sick, and in worst-case scenarios get really sick.

Breakdowns can be mental, spiritual, and/or physical. You cease to be able to focus on tasks; you develop a cold or flu; things you love stop being joyful and enjoyable. All of these are matters of breaking down.

A lot of people are bad at taking these as the signs they are that they need to stop being “on” and take downtime. That can be foolish, in part because a slight initial breakdown tends to build to more over time. Today’s exhaustion becomes tomorrow’s cold, which in turn develops into next week’s pneumonia.

To be certain, people breakdown from exposure to other people who are ill, to unexpected life circumstances such as the death of a loved one, or some other environmental factor. But that doesn’t lessen the danger of breaking down from trying to be “on” all the time.

Feeling guilty for not being on

One of the biggest issues that a person employing mindfulness encounters can be a belief that they need to ALWAYS be mindful. Ergo, always “on.”

Because this takes a certain amount of meticulous practice, when you are not “on” you believe you are not succeeding. If you feel that you are not succeeding, that can cause you to feel that you are failing.

So the guilt comes on. Guilt, for the record, is a largely useless emotion.

Why useless? Because guilt does nothing but destroy and assign blame. Blame tends to go hand-in-hand with excuses, which can pile onto the guilt and continue to make you feel bad. As such, you develop negative feelings that do nothing but get in your way and slow growth, development, and being mindful in the first place.

Oh, and if that isn’t enough, guilt tends to cause you to be disinclined to necessary downtime, feeding into the negative loop…and then, before you know it, you’re no longer practicing mindfulness or consciously creating that which you desire to.

How do you deal with guilt and negativity?

You need to be forgiving – mostly of yourself

The first step is to recognize that you cannot and do not need to be “on” all the time. Once you do acknowledge this truth, the next step is to forgive yourself.

When it comes to forgiveness, most people have the greatest difficulty when it comes to forgiving themselves. I’ve been there before. Mistakes I made in my youth, people I inadvertently caused hurt to along the way, opportunities I failed to take – for many of these it took me a long time to forgive myself.

Truth be told, I haven’t entirely forgiven myself. That’s due largely to the matter in need of forgiveness being long buried.

This can be troublesome when a current matter requires forgiveness, but in the process of self-analysis that old matter comes up – for which you also need to forgive yourself. This, too, becomes another issue of circular logic and needs to be handled.

I would like to suggest two things for you to keep in mind.

The past is passed. Since you cannot undo what you have already done, holding on to guilt, shame, or anything else for which you might need to forgive yourself serves nobody. So you might as well forgive yourself.
Nobody’s perfect. Congratulations, you are human. As such, you are going to make mistakes, get things wrong, and act in a perfectly imperfect manner. Don’t beat yourself up…forgive yourself.

Acknowledging that you cannot be “on” all the time, nor can anybody else, you can forgive yourself when you are “off.” Further, you need to have downtime for refueling, so don’t take on any guilt when you do this.

Be the best you that you can be

There are enough complications in choosing to walk your own path in life. Guilt and disappointment in yourself for not being “on” all the time do not serve you nor anyone else.

Practice mindfulness as much as you can, but know that there will be times you need to switch off and take breaks and downtime. You are in competition with nobody else, so don’t feel guilty if you are not living up to your own over-zealous expectations.

You may not be “on” all the time, but you are still worthy and deserving of finding, choosing, and walking whatever given path you desire. Keep at it.

Can you see how nobody can be “on” all the time?

The World is Not on Fire

The World is Not on Fire

Despite appearances, the world is not, in fact, burning down.

There is no denying that we are living in trying times. The amount of hatred, anger, indignity, and negativity you and I encounter on a daily basis is utterly staggering.

not on fireIf you give this too much attention, it becomes far too easy to see the world as being on fire. Whether the dumpster fire is Trump, Brexit, corporate greed, climate change, or what-have-you, it is almost impossible to avoid.

For all that, the world is not, in fact, burning down.

How do I know this? Because of several factors.

We live in a fear-based society

Because of this truth, much of what you and I are presented by our leadership and our press is negative. Why? Because we accept it. Over time it has become accepted as the norm and perpetuated because it sells things.

Want to prop up capitalism? Get people fearful of things – then sell them solutions. Especially short-term solutions. That way you will be able to sell them more. Drugs, foods, alcohol, toys – take your pick. How much is sold based on fear?

The Universe is abundant

Despite the notion, along with our fear-based society, that we are in a constant state of lack and scarcity – in truth, we are not.

There is more than enough to go around. The cosmos is unbelievably huge, and as such is full-to-bursting with plenty. Maybe we run out of resource ‘x,’ but either a new resource will replace it or it will no longer be needed in the first place.

Most people are good people

This one can be hard to believe, again because of how much you are being sold on the notion that bad people are everywhere. Pick a group, any group, and you can be shown a way in which they are bad.

Men/Women. Whites/Blacks. Christians/Muslims. Democrats/Republicans. Straight People/Gay People.

Opinion is a matter of perspective. Those who are less mindful of their own thoughts and feelings tend to take in and hold onto thoughts and feelings of others. But for the most part, the majority of people in the world want to live good lives.

Please note – there ARE bad people out there. This is not denying that at all. But how often do you read stories about people doing good things for people over people doing bad things to people?

Yet keeping in mind that most people are, in fact, good people – such as your friends and family (I hope) – this can help you see that the world is not on fire.

YOU are a good person

Yes, I am making a presumption here. But unless you actively do things to hurt other people, intend to deny anyone else rights and opportunities, or treat other people as inferior, you are a good person.

not on fireI screw up sometimes. There are things I get wrong, and I cause people to feel hurt. This is not intentional, but it will make me feel bad and question whether I am a good person or not. But just by asking the question, I believe that it shows that I am a good person.

A bad person tends to lack empathy, and probably – I suspect – self-awareness. If you are reading this, you likely have at least some self-awareness and empathy.

Because you strive to be a good person and do the best that you can, that right there is proof that the world is not burning down. Yes, times are difficult, but if you can be a good person, then hope is not lost.

The world is not on fire

When you stop and take stock of everything going on in YOUR immediate life, odds are that you will see far fewer flames. I am not denying that you may be having issues and matters that are complicating your life. But I am pointing out that for the most part, the world around you is probably not burning to the ground.

When you practice mindfulness and being aware of your own mindset – specifically what you are thinking and what and how you are feeling – you gain perspective. That, in turn, helps you best influence your thoughts and feelings, and take actions to douse the fires that you can.

No, this is not easy. But it is important to recognize. You and I can better the world, and it begins with being the best that we can be, putting more positivity out there, and working to show how the world is not on fire.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action

Knowing that the world is not, in fact, on fire, you can take actions to see the good and expand positivity. When you are not adding to the fire and being the best you that you can be, and keeping positive in the face of all the negativity, this ultimately empowers you.

Am I Being True to Myself?

Am I being True to Myself?

How does that even work, and what does it mean?

For the second time, I am listening to Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks & Win Your Inner Creative Battles. This is a most outstanding analysis of the writing process, and facing off against what Mr. Pressfield calls “Resistance.”

What is resistance in this form? Resistance is the intangible something that whispers in your ear and gets in your way trying to keep you from advancing, growing, and pursuing the work you are here to do. Though he is mostly speaking to artists and writers, it can be applied to everyone.

“Resistance by definition is self-sabotage.” – Steven Pressfield, The War of Art

True to myselfAnother thing he talks about is that fine line between writing for your audience and writing for yourself. You do the art you do because it sings to you, the muse works with you. The danger is writing for your audience and not for yourself, and pandering as such.

In being disingenuous in this way, Mr. Pressfield asserts that you are condescending to your audience.

I have been writing weekly about seeking, finding, and creating your own path in life for 7.5 years. The majority of what I write is partially for you, my reader, but partially for me. I am analyzing my own ways and means, my approach, and my goals and aspirations.

It is my hope that in doing this not only am I being true to myself but ultimately the truest to myself I can be.

“This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.” – William Shakespeare’s Hamlet

Truth and lies in writing

Have I been totally honest as a writer with all that I present? That’s part of what Mr. Pressfield addresses. Honesty in your work is far more genuine than being dishonest. This is especially true for motivational, self-help, inspirational work.

“Writers are liars, my dear, surely you know that by now? And yet, things need not have happened to be true. Tales and dreams are the shadow-truths that will endure when mere facts are dust and ashes, and forgot.” – Neil Gaiman, Dream Country

When I am working on a fantasy or sci-fi work, I am making up worlds that (as far as I know) do not exist. Fantastical worlds where some of the rules of OUR world go out the window. Hell, I get to invent rules for things like magic, sorcery, and faster-than-light travel. Does this make me a liar?

In the sense of what Mr. Gaiman’s quote says above, yes. But that doesn’t make me disingenuous in the process. I think this is better broken down in Mr. Pressfield’s notion of the amateur versus the professional.

“The sign of the amateur is overglorification of and preoccupation with the mystery. The professional shuts up. She doesn’t talk about it. She does her work.” – Steven Pressfield, The War of Art.

This is part of why I am questioning if I am being true to myself. Do I spend too much time in analysis as an amateur rather than just doing my work?

When I look at myself, am I being true to myself, and a professional…or pandering and an amateur? Because of the growth I have experienced, both personally and professionally over the last 7.5 years, I believe that I AM being true to myself.

True to myself/True to you

I never claim to be an expert. Knowledgeable about certain subject matters, yes, but never an expert. Why? Because I am always growing, always learning, always gaining knowledge and experience.

Further, I take this quote rather to heart:

“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s there are few.”  – Shunryu Suzuki, Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind

This is not, for the record, about a literal beginner – in this application, a “beginner’s mind” is an open mind. A mind that is open to new experiences, new lessons, new ideas, new possibilities. I strive to maintain an open mind because I KNOW that there are new things to be learned, and endless possibilities ahead.

It is important for me to remain the beginner. It is all-too-easy to develop “expertise” and close down potential and possibility. When I was younger I was a lot more stubborn about that which I knew. But then I experienced a lot of things that opened me to far greater potential, possibility, and more.

When I write about mindfulness, conscious reality creation, positivity, and walking my own path, I work to be very honest. This is not easy. It comes with a lot of pitfalls and obstacles and challenges. There are good days and bad days, doubts, depression, and anxiety. What if I am wrong about my path? How do I know if I am doing any good in the world around me?

The truth is that I have much good in my life. There are many struggles I have not experienced because of my privilege, skin color, and gender. That doesn’t mean I haven’t experienced strife, but I acknowledge that my upbringing and environment impact my knowledge base as much as my education and choices do.

What does it all mean?

This is what I believe. Life is too short to just waste doing things you hate, being with people you don’t like, and having experiences that don’t thrill you. Sure, you need to do something to earn a living so you can afford a home, food, clothing and anything else – but why must it crush your spirit? That we accept the idea that a job, where you spend 1/3 to 2/3 of any given day, can obliterate our energies, is insane.

If you are content in your life, then, by all means, don’t change it. If, like me, you are not, determine why.

Then, when you know why, do whatever you can to change it.

You have only one life to live. That life is not meant to be mere survival, it is meant to be the biggest, best, most amazing life you can find and/or create. Everyone deserves this, which is why seeing our so-called leaders act in ways that deny rights or impact quality-of-life matters is so disheartening.

Choosing to live in an unconventional way can be scary. The collective consciousness has expectations for you, and not meeting them can evoke the fear of rejection, abandonment, and ultimately utter and total isolation.

“Fear doesn’t go away. The warrior and the artist live by the same code of necessity, which dictates that the battle must be fought anew every day.” – Steven Pressfield, The War of Art

Be the best you that you can be

I write this in almost every blog post not just for you, not just to be true to myself, but because everyone can use this reminder. YOU are worthy and deserving of being the best you that you can be. Whatever shape that takes, whatever form brings that to you, you are worthy and deserving of it.

You don’t have to come from money, influence, power, or any specific background – you are worthy and deserving of finding, creating, and living a life that lights you up, brings you joy, and brings out the best in you.

The Universe is abundant, and you having good things doesn’t deny them from anyone else. The examples of the selfish, the narcissistic, and the super-greedy constantly being shown to us are not who you will become – unless that is who you choose to be. But you have the choice, and you can be well-off and still be generous, too.

I am working on being as true to myself as I can be. When I do I am more content, feel more whole, and see more possibility than when I try to shoehorn myself into somewhere I don’t belong. When I ask, Am I being True to Myself? I work to make the answer YES as much as possible.

Are you being true to yourself?

Avoiding Overwhelm While Remaining Informed

To avoid overwhelm while remaining informed is not easy, but utterly necessary for finding and maintaining positivity.

Let’s be perfectly honest here. The world you and I live in today is complicated, and all-too-often full of fear, lack, scarcity, and overall negativity. All you have to do is scroll through social media. Doing so, you will see memes and links to articles about any number of terrible things going on.

overwhelmIt can be thoroughly disheartening, infuriating, annoying, maddening, and all kinds of mostly negative emotions. Yet you cannot (and should not) just ignore it all, because you need to be informed. That’s how you can know when and how to protest, speak up, vote, and otherwise take actions to make changes.

The problem is not in being informed, it’s avoiding becoming overwhelmed. The downside of our instant gratification quick-fix society and the tech at our fingertips is that you can almost receive too much information. What’s more, parsing out real data with fake information is challenging, in especial with so many people being willing to reject intellectualism, research, science, and the like.

So how do you remain informed, avoid becoming overwhelmed, and maintain positivity?

First step – Don’t read too deep

When it comes to being informed, it’s necessary to keep up with all that is going on. But that does not mean digging into each and every matter happening out there in-depth.

Being generally aware of what Trump is doing, what Congress is and is not doing, Brexit, Iran, and the rest of the world is a matter of reading headlines from solid and dependable sources. (Sources such as, in my opinion, NPR, BBC, The NY Times, Washington Post, CNN, and the like). If that doesn’t provide you enough info, maybe open up the article and skim through it.

But reading every single article in-depth, reading the comments, and digging into every nugget of information will not serve but to make you feel bad. Let’s face it, these are matters that you and I have very little control or even influence over. However, if we ignore them we may become complicit and complacent, and miss when the time DOES arrive to speak out, attend a protest, write/call our so-called Representatives, and so on.

So keep informed, but don’t make yourself utterly crazed by getting deep into every single thing happening. Be choosy, be picky. Even glance at the less-legit sources just to see what BS is being spread. Informed is good – overwhelmed is not.

Which brings us to the next step.

Second step – Be Mindful of the now

Much of the stuff we face, while it impacts the present, is focused on the past and future. The whole notion of “Make America Great Again” implies that the past is the key to the future – which is never the truth.

Yes, you can learn lessons from the past – but you cannot go back to it, nor should you. Times change, people and things evolve.

When it comes to remaining informed and avoiding overwhelm the best option is to be in the now. Right here, right now, you are. What does that even mean? It means that this is the only time that is completely real and that mindfulness has the most impact.

Mindfulness – being aware of your thoughts and feelings and the intentional actions you take from them – puts you in the now. The now is the only time that is totally real. The now is the only time from which you can best balance being informed and maintaining positivity in the world.

Which brings us to the last step.

Third step – Choose positivity

When you are careful not to be overwhelmed by information while keeping informed, and being mindful of the now, you open yourself up to influencing what you are thinking and feeling, and thus to be positive.

I know that when I am not being mindful, or when I get overwhelmed by what is going on out there, my subconscious will draw my thoughts and feelings to negative places. When I do not recognize this I will often find myself feeling anxious and depressed. If I realize the cause, I become mindful, and put myself in the position to influence and maybe even control what I am thinking and feeling, and from there intentional actions to take.

overwhelmYou have the power to choose how much news and information to take in, decide how far you can look within before it might overwhelm you, and to choose means to find, create, and maintain positivity.

You are not a selfish or bad person for choosing a positive outlook – you become part of the solution because you are not contributing to the doom and gloom and putting even more of that out there.

I know this can take work, but I also know that I prefer to be informed without being overwhelmed, and maintain as positive an attitude as I can.

Finding positivity and avoiding overwhelm isn’t hard, but it does require action

Knowing that you can control how much information you take in, you can choose and decide how much you absorb. When you actively work to be informed and avoid overwhelm, you are practicing mindfulness, which ultimately empowers you.

What Does Your End Result Look Like?

What Does Your End Result Look Like?

Finding sufficient balance of clarity and detail to manifest your reality.

end resultWhen you start down a path in life, it is usually done with an end goal in sight. But do you know what that end goal looks like?

This can be a slippery slope because while detail counts, too much detail denies the Universe its power to present you with what you desire.

Let me put a few things out there in regards to all of this, and the process of manifestation.

Mindfulness is the starting point. This is being aware of what you are thinking and what and how you are feeling. That awareness opens you to being able to influence and control thoughts and feelings.
Consciousness creates reality. This ties directly into mindfulness. Once you gain awareness, and influence over your thoughts and feelings you can better choose intentional actions. Intentional actions take you down your given path towards manifesting whatever goal you seek.
Positivity matters. Living in a fear-based society, obsessed with seeing lack and scarcity, you need to stay positive in order to keep your energy and vibrational frequency high. That will help you navigate the inevitable twists, turns, obstacles, and other issues you will likely encounter upon your chosen path.
Be present in the now. It’s too easy to become depressed about past events and anxious over future possibilities. But in the here-and-now, you have influence and control over mindfulness matters, and that can better get you to your goal.

You can’t just, as The Secret suggests, “Ask, Believe, and Receive” without taking action. You can manifest virtually anything you would desire, but not from a total void. Further, it’s important to have some definition of what the end result will look like.

Giving the end goal clarity

With most things in the Universe, you need to have some idea of what your end goal will look like…but without too much clarity and definition.

What the hell does that even mean? Ok, so let’s take my end goal for one of the paths I am currently on. I want to make my living as a writer. Ideally, I want to be a bestselling author, and as a result of that go on book-signing and speaking tours, guest lecture at colleges and universities, and make enough money to better support my household, give to charities that work to make the world a better place, and help friends with their dreams. It’s my desire to have the respect of fellow writers, as well as make a positive impact on lots of people’s lives.

There is some detail in my end goal, right? I think it could use a little more definition and clarity. How much money do I desire to make? Where do I see myself giving my talks and signing books? What impact will that have on other aspects of my life, like my medieval reenactment hobby?

All good questions I should go into and give some more detail. Yet if I get too specific, I limit the potential of what the Universe could bring me.

What is too specific?

An overly-detailed end result

What does too much clarity look like?

An example: Ideally, I want to be a bestselling author, specifically for my new sci-fi series. I want to go to San Diego ComicCon and Dragoncon to take part in panels and speak and share my process. Along the way I want Disney to buy the movie rights, and let me work on the film. I want to earn 10 million dollars, buy my wife a food truck or restaurant space, create or contribute to existing college funds for my niece and nephews, as well as my friends’ kids.

Why is this too much clarity? Because it is putting a limit on what the Universe could deliver to me. I name which specific book I want to turn into a best-seller, ignoring the rest of what I have written and am writing. I name two cons and deny the possibility of others. In naming who buys the movie rights, I close off the potential for something that could be even bigger.

Putting a number on how much I’d like to earn is not too detailed, per se, but it’s a very big and somewhat unrealistic number. Now if I were to name that number in, say, five years, it’s got more potential for ramping up.

The point here is that you do need clarity in what the end result should look like, but too much detail denies the Universe the ability to present something equal to your desire, or possibly better.

Balancing clarity and detail in the end result

It would be super cool to have Disney buy the rights to my book. But what if in limiting this to Disney I close off the potential for another big production company to buy not only the rights to this book, but to other works? What if by limiting it to a film I am denying the possibility of, say, HBO turning it into a multi-season TV series like Game of Thrones?

This is why clarity without too much detail matters. You need to have an idea for where the path will take you, but not so specific that you limit your potential.

This is also why it’s important to recognize that your path is not singular. There is more than one way to consciously create reality, and choose a direction for your life. Further, along any given path you may find detours, shortcuts, and other unexpected matters changing your path.

For example, I once wanted very much to be the person in charge of all fencing in my region of the country in my medieval reenactment society. Now, however, that idea doesn’t appeal anymore. Why? Because I found and changed my path. Still love love love fencing, still teach, help run practices and tournaments, but I don’t feel it necessary that I be the guy in charge.

Change is the one constant of the Universe. Interests, tastes, likes and dislikes change all throughout your life. As such, paths need room to change, too.

What if you don’t buy into this conscious reality creation/manifestation stuff?

A little skepticism is a good thing. It opens you up to ask questions about everything, and analyze your life, your desires, and any goals that you have.

Even if you don’t entirely buy into this stuff, do you like the idea that you have NO control over your destiny? Do you want fate, or some other unseen entity, to dictate what your life should look like?

I know some people are ok with that, but I prefer to have more influence and control over who I am and what I do. This process I share has worked for me before, and I know it can work for me again. I also know that it can work for you, too.

You are worthy and deserving of setting a goal with an end result that thrills, excites, and enlivens you. Finding sufficient balance of clarity and detail to manifest your reality, with a little skepticism, can help you achieve almost anything you desire.

What paths are you on now? What do your end goals look like?

The Adventure is Yours to Choose

In what direction would you like to take your life?

AventureEvery day is a brand new day. Why does that matter? Because it means that every day you get new choices, new options, new possibilities, new opportunities, and more. No matter how the previous day may have ended, you get a new day full of new options.

Or rather, you get to choose how to view this new day.

You could also possibly see every day as the same as all the others. Along the way, then, you will likely see the same choices and/or lack of choices, scarce options, lack of possibilities, few opportunities, and so on.

Will today be an adventure or a dull recurrence? That is entirely up to you.

You are empowered to choose your day

Your reality is entirely how you make it out to be. So it’s up to you if it will be good or bad; fun or boring; full or adventure or lacking, scarce, and stagnant.

If you have a pretty regular life, chances are it looks something like this:

Monday-Friday get up in the morning, maybe do something like reading or exercise or play online games. Go to work. Work 8-12 hours. Go home. Maybe spend time with family and/or friends, read, exercise, perform household chores, veg in front of the TV, or whatever. Go to bed. Repeat the next day.

Saturday and Sunday have little to no structure, or are all about errands/chores/projects, or doing nothing at all or something fun.

This is a serious generalization here. But the point remains that it’s all-too-easy to be carried along the pattern of a given day, and not actively decide to make it an adventure and just slog through it.

When you factor in outside influences, this gets even more complicated, because many of the outside influences you encounter lean towards negativity.

This is why recognizing that you have a choice, and can choose to make every day a unique adventure is so important. When you see life as full of potential and possibility, you can work to find it or create it.

I know how hard this can be. In particular, if you stay abreast of current affairs. There are so many messages being broadcast to you of lack, scarcity, disempowerment, and overall fear-mongering to convince you that you’re powerless.

But that’s not true. No matter what they try to tell you, you have all the power. How? With mindfulness.

Mindfulness can make today an adventure

Your reality is entirely based on how you perceive it. Depending on sensory input, environment, experiences, education, and many other factors, you have come to know reality. The reason that it belongs to you and only you is that nobody else is in your head.

AdventureYou are the only one inside your head thinking and feeling how you think and feel. While outside matters will impact upon that, you have the power to influence and even take control over it. Thus, you get to choose: focus on positivity and find all the adventure life has to offer – or – focus on negativity, and see life as a trial, unfair, lacking, scarce, and scary.

Mindfulness involves you being aware of what you think, what and how you feel, and the intentions behind your actions that you take. Being mindful of these allows you influence and control.

I know that seems too easy. But truly, it is that easy. It takes some patience and practice to be more aware. If your day is like the type I described above, letting your subconscious drive just sort-of happens along the way.

There is no quick fix here, and trust me, there will be days that you just can do nothing but get through. But for the most part, you have more options than you realize, and mindfulness is the key to them.

Mindfulness helps you decide on choosing to have a day of adventure or a day of the same-old-same-old. I know what I would prefer, how about you?

Finding positivity and choosing your adventure isn’t hard, but it does require action

Knowing that you have the power to choose to make any day an adventure, you can employ mindfulness to do so. When you work with positivity and see your day full of potential rather than problems, possibility rather than scarcity, and excitement rather than boredom, that ultimately empowers you.

Who Controls Your Fate?

You are not a victim of fate.

Just because you were born into a certain circumstance, raised in a given environment, got the education that you did, and hold the job you hold, you are not trapped. Fate is not written in stone.

You have the power to change your fate.

fatePeople tend to want to believe in fate because it means that they have a purpose. Fate means there has to be a reason, and purpose, to living your life.

So if there is no fate, how can there be any reason?

The simple answer is because you are here.

The long answer is because you, in your purest base energetic form, decided to occupy the meat suit you call your body and enter this world in this time in order to experience life.

Life is not dictated by fate. You have the power to choose what your life can and will look like.

Maybe you are currently dissatisfied with who and what you are. That’s ok, it happens, it’s a perfectly human thing to experience. But you only remain there for as long as YOU believe you must. So if you have had enough and want to change your life, take action and change your life.

Mindfulness begins the journey

The first thing anyone has to do to escape what they believe to be their fate is to become more mindful. How? Be being in the present, right here and now, and getting aware of your thoughts and feelings. What you are thinking and how and what you are feeling make up your overall mindfulness. Thoughts and feelings inform you about where you are, and from there to choose where to go.

Becoming mindful opens you up to influencing and possibly controlling your thinking and feeling in the now. Believing in fate denies choice, and puts your subconscious in control. When that happens, you go about your life half in the dark, because you are not fully aware of your here and now.

I have done this myself. When I lost sight of where I was in the now, and allowed past thoughts, feelings and actions make me feel bad about mistakes I made and opportunities missed – or – thoughts, feelings, and actions to avoid a fear and anxiety about a future outcome – I didn’t get where I desired to be and found myself at a crossroads. Decision paralysis tended to be there with me.

Indecision is borne of a lack of mindfulness. When you do not recognize your thoughts and feelings in the here and now, you close off the number of choices and decisions available to you. This tends to manifest as indecision.

By becoming more mindful of what is going on inside your head, you open yourself up to creating your life how you desire for it to be. But thought and feeling alone are not enough. Once you have gotten a better idea of these, from thoughts and feelings you need to take intentional actions.

Intentional actions belong to you, and only you

If you need more proof of how fate does not dictate your life, consider this: When you take intentional action, you are the one acting upon what you know. How you think and feel are wholly within your unique perception of the universe.

I don’t know what you want to do with your life. You could tell me your entire life story, and I would still only partially know what it is you are after. Why? Because I can’t get inside your head with you. Your perception of the universe belongs entirely to you, and nobody else.

When you are mindful of your thoughts and feelings, you open yourself up to taking more intentional actions. Intentional action is an action with specific focus on the outcome of the action. It’s not the same as acting just to put yourself in motion – it moves you with focus and purpose.

Intentional action, I would argue, is further proof that fate isn’t driving the bus. Why? Because if you possess this ability to choose and to direct your life, how can anyone other than you be directing your life?

Take control

I spent a long time with control issues. Whatever the situation was, I wanted to take charge and be in control. Most of the time this was pretty benign, but there were times along the way that it was a bit insidious.

It was also kind of ironic. I wanted to be in control but wasn’t being mindful of exactly what I was thinking and feeling. Thus, I also wasn’t taking intentional actions that would land me anywhere I really wanted to be. Instead, I got involved in uninspiring relationships, lackluster jobs, and developed some less-than-helpful habits.

Even after I managed to make use of mindfulness and conscious reality creation to speed my healing after being severely injured, I still continued on much as I had before. It wasn’t until almost another decade passed before I started to understand that real control was all in my head.

This has nothing to do with fate and outside forces of that ilk having control. They simply don’t. What it does come down to, however, is understanding that while you can direct your life and make choices and decisions to impact how you live, what you actually can control is limited.

What do YOU control?

You are the only thing within your own control. That ranges from inside to outside. You can control how you look by changing your hairstyle and color, weight loss/gain, muscle loss/gain, piercings, tattoos, and so on.

Inside your head, you have ALL the control. What and how you feel, what and how you think are entirely yours to influence. Control in many respects ignores variables that will impact what you think and feel. Because of that, it always begins with influence. You can influence your thinking and feeling, which in time can allow you to control reactions and actions.

Nobody but you chooses what you do when you do it. Fate is not anything more than an abstract idea removing influence and control from YOU. But when all is said and done, your life is in your hands.

I know that this can be challenging. You are bombarded by ideas of outside influences, be it God or gods, the Muses, the Fates, or some other omnipotent power that has written out your life story somewhere beyond your seeing. That’s just not the way it is. You and I have the power of decision and choice, and as such, there is no fate but what you make for your life.

Worth and deserving

Last but not least – you do not need to be someone special, from a certain class or environment, or whatever other factor you can think of to choose your life paths. You are worthy and deserving of making your own choices. Why? Because you are here.

If you have any fate at all, that fate is to make choices – or not – to direct the life you live. That is how you become who you most desire to be, and that begins with mindfulness of thoughts and feelings, then intentional actions to set it all in motion.

You can do it. If I can do it, so can you. It is not always going to seem that way, but that doesn’t lessen that truth. Go for it, and make those choices and decisions that feel like they will get you where you desire most to be.

What fate would you choose for yourself?

Doing, Positivity, and the Life You Desire

Doing opens the door to having. Positivity is a key to that door.

doingDo you have a dream? A goal? Is there something that you really want to make/have/or be in your life?

What are you doing to make it happen?

When I was a kid and saw The Empire Strikes Back for the first time, this line from Yoda always resonated with me:

“Do, or do not, there is no try.”

Yoda was not, by any stretch of the imagination, the first to say this sort of thing. When all is said and done, Shakespeare made the same statement in Hamlet:

“To be or not to be, that is the question.”

Whatever the thing you envision is, whether material or immaterial, you have the power to make it real. As Theodore Herzl said:

“If you will it, it is no dream.”

Action is necessary. Not just any action for the sake of action, but intentional action. When you act, and you DO whatever it is you do with a notion of the journey and the outcome in the process, you are using your mindfulness to consciously create reality. You are DOing and BEing and WILLing your life, shaping your world to the way you would desire for it to be.

Trying, not actually being, and dreaming lack intent. As such, they lack the power to take you where you desire to be. That is why you need to employ your will, and do, and be.

With mindfulness of your thoughts and feelings in the now, this becomes much more possible.

Positivity is a necessity

To manifest anything into existence you need to see it as being. When you doubt or feel it is impossible, you sabotage your power. This is why finding positivity is so important to doing and having a life as you most desire to.

DoingThis is not a question of worth or deserving, because you are. To that simple point, you deserve and are worthy of having the life you feel is most right for you. Because our society is rooted so deeply in fear, lack, and scarcity, you are led to believe that only a certain few are worthy and deserving, because there is only so much to go around.

This is completely untrue. You are living in an abundant universe. There is more than enough to go around for you, for me, for everyone.

I know that I have been afraid to do and be along the way. When I was meditating on this recently, it occurred to me that my single greatest fear, the one that stops me from employing all of my will to do and be, is fear that I will be utterly abandoned.

I have issues with this, and I know it. However, as I really examined what that would mean, I realized that even if I realize my worst fear, and everyone DID abandon me, I could rebuild and start anew. Sure, it would probably suck, but I would still be here, and still have options ahead of me.

Ergo, realistically, it’s a lot scarier to consider living a ho-hum life, not go for it, and always wonder what I missed out on.

Have what you desire to

You are only a victim of circumstance if you choose to be. When you are mindful of what you are thinking and what and how you are feeling you gain the ability to create your life however you most desire to have it.

It takes work, and dedication, and time. There will be good days and bad days. But to live the dream is far more exciting and invigorating than to just wish for it.

All of the quotes at the beginning, when you get right down to it, say the exact same thing. To sum up, this leads to quoting Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation:

“Make it so.”

Finding positivity and creating the life you most desire isn’t hard, but it does require action

Knowing that doing opens the door to having, you can use mindfulness of what thoughts and feelings you have to determine intentional actions to take to build the life you desire. When you act in your own best interest, and strive to live the fullest life that you can, that ultimately empowers you. When you feel empowered, your mindfulness increases, you become more aware overall, and that tends to spread that to other people around you.

The Philosophy of Pathwalking

I would like to explore with you the details of my personal life philosophy – Pathwalking.

When I first began to write about this idea, it was just meant to be a weekly post to my blog. I needed a topic, so I decided to begin to write about how I seek to make my own way in life.

The name Pathwalking came about for two reasons. First, because of the idea that life is an ongoing journey, so you blaze a trail (or else create or follow a path/paths) along the way. Second, to reference the notion of a walkabout.

pathwalkingThe walkabout is a rite of passage of the indigenous people of Australia. A young man makes a traditional spiritual transition to adulthood by living in the wilderness for as long as half a year. While the term is sometimes used in a derogatory way, I reference it for the spiritual journey of discovery that it represents.

Pathwalking boils down to making choices and decisions to live life on your own terms. You take paths to goals you want to achieve, but along the way learn about many things, both enormous and minuscule.

Consciousness creates reality

Over time, the primary focus of Pathwalking became conscious reality creation.

What does that mean? Let me break it down for you:

What is consciousness? It is your awareness, your senses, your thoughts, and feelings. Consciousness is perception, recognition, knowledge. This is arguably what makes each of us who we are.

What is reality? Without getting into a really deep philosophical debate on the subject, this is your perception of your life. When it comes to reality this is the tangibles such as people and things you encounter, as well as intangibles like oxygen, subatomic particles, Universal energy, and the like. Reality is how you perceive existence, substance, actuality. This is the world you live in, at least based on your perceptions of it.

What does it mean to create? This is building, constructing, making a thing become real. Whether it is a mathematical theory, a car, or a new philosophy, you are a creator. Creation includes conceiving, designing, inventing, producing. This is the process you use to build things that are both material and immaterial on many different levels.

This means that perception and experience designs and produces existence, that which you and I call reality. This is how mankind landed on the moon; communicates across the world instantly; has these amazing devices that connect us across the globe; and you have the ability to learn, to grow, and to build new and better as time goes on.

This is why consciousness creates reality. Because you and I are endowed with the empowerment to forge the world we desire for ourselves. You are only powerless when you allow yourself to be disempowered. That, like all other aspects of life in general, is a matter of decisions and choices.

I know it can be done

As Albert Einstein said, “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.” If that is true – and I believe it is – then you have the power to create your own reality with your consciousness.

I have made this work for me. When I was hit by a car crossing a street nearly twenty years ago, I got hurt pretty badly. A severely broken leg and nerve damaged arm would take time to heal. The doctors, who were amazing by the way, thought it would take years for me to recover, and I would probably never get back to how I had been before.

It was expected that I would walk with a limp the rest of my life, after anywhere from 1 to 3 years of healing and therapy. Restoring the total use of my arm might never occur.

I didn’t accept that as my reality. I used my consciousness to see no other possibility but total and complete recovery. Yes, my doctors were incredible, as were most of my therapists, but none of them could explain the speed nor totality of my recovery. Now, if I don’t tell you the story or show you my really impressive scar collection, you’d have no idea this happened to me.

This is the most dramatic example I have of using my consciousness to create my reality. But this still does not explain HOW this works.

This is both incredibly simple, and at the same time extremely complex.

Mindfulness

The most important tool for consciously creating reality is mindfulness. This is not about being aware of the world without, this is about being aware of your inner self – the world within.

Face it, there is nobody inside of your head but you. As such, you are the only one who can think and feel for yourself. No matter what you are taught, or learn on your own, or otherwise are influenced by, what goes on in there is up to you.

One of the downsides of modern society is how much it draws attention away from the now, and being mindful. All the distractions muddy your mindset and allow your subconscious to be in control.

How does that work? Mindfulness is being aware of what you are thinking and what and how you are feeling, right now. Awareness in the moment of what is happening inside your head. When you recognize and utilize that awareness, you gain influence and even control over your thoughts and feelings.

When you are not being conscious of what you are thinking and feeling, you don’t stop thinking and feeling. Instead, your subconscious does that for you.

Or rather, your subconscious thoughts and feelings will be influenced by outside stimuli, rather than your self.

Don’t believe me? I know if I start reading about what the Trump administration is doing today it’s going to make me feel negative. If I am not mindful of this, then all I have to do is read a few things, and before I know it I will find myself feeling hopeless, angry, and other negative emotions. You may not feel the same, but chances are there is something that gets you thinking and feeling negatively with no conscious act on your part.

Pathwalking is making choices and decisions

I believe that there are three ways to live life. They are:

Let life live you
Curl up in a ball and await death
Live life to the fullest

Pathwalking is about making choices and decisions that allow you to live life to the fullest. To be fair, it’s almost impossible to do this all day every day, but all attempts made to employ mindfulness for conscious reality creation are a step in that direction. Each step takes you down a path, and Pathwalking is about choosing the path you desire to tread.

Every day you have choices and decisions to make. When you practice being conscious of them you can decide for yourself what is best for you. Pathwalking is all about empowering yourself to best utilize this.

The idea of Pathwalking has room to grow. I have written about numerous ideas for how to practice mindfulness and conscious reality creation along your paths. It is not a quick fix, and it doesn’t dictate any One True Way to conscious reality creation. But it is a practice anyone can employ, and as part of an abundance mentality can do no harm.

I’ve made it work for me. In the seven and a half years I have been writing about and practicing Pathwalking, I have had incredible experiences and made active, conscious changes to my life for the better.

I won’t lie, there are still bad days and struggles. But overall in my work to live life to the fullest, I have an abundance of people and things to be endlessly grateful for.

Consciousness creates reality through the practice of mindfulness. Even if you do not completely buy into the idea of using this for Pathwalking, can you see how much it could empower you?
