I always live in hope that one day I will earn an income from my writing, being an eternal optimist. Until then, I keep working on my writing technique so that I can maintain a professional standard and I endeavour to produce a novel every twelve months (as per a possible publishing contact). But most of all, I love writing and I know I can't go wrong if I enjoy what I'm doing.
I wish you every success with your third novel and never mind about being an oldie. Us oldies have a lifetime of experience. And that counts for a lot. (less)

My inspiration for Songbird came about when I suddenly imagined a young woman running down steps clutching her music sheets. I wondered what she was doing. Slowly the story formed (long before I set it down on paper), but when I started writing I needed a model for my Isabelle, so I decided on Katherine Jenkins. I played a lot of her music as I progressed through the story. (less)

When I was studying with the Open University I remember completing assignments that asked me to 'Describe and Discuss'. This instruction always comes to mind when I read reviews; for my own novels and for those by other authors.

I firmly believe that reviews should keep well away from the 'describe' and concentrate on the 'discuss'. Not an easy task, I know; almost akin to the 'show don't tell'... Read more of this blog post »
