Write letters via snail mail. Close your eyes and add the ticking of the clock, the raging wind outside, and the neighbors arguing next door. If you are in college with writing assignments, do those first, and turn them in right away. Then ask, "What more can I do?" Be interested. Have fun writing. It is not a chore. It is an accomplishment. It is a reflection of who you are, like a photograph, and you can redo it from different angles, add peripheral highlights, and just have fun!(less)

I don't force it out, ever. It comes as a stream on a riverbank, flowing downward over the rocks. I can see the main story, and also the waters off to the periphery (i.e., the 'side stories'). In my case, the words come faster than I can type, and my nails grow fast, so I have to get them cut once per week just so they're not in the way!(less)

Mike Wells

“Maybe you’re right,” Kyle said. While Kyle drove, he was deep in thought, trying to grapple with the future. Briana’s future. So, the green water had saved her again today. But what about tomorrow? And the next day? And the next? What was she going to do, just keep coming back to the lake and swimming down to the bottom for her green-water fix, like some sort of aquatic vampire? And what about school? She was supposed to leave for State in another week. It was a three-hour drive away. What was she going to do then?”
Mike Wells, Wild Child

“Briana watched him for a moment and then looked back out her window. “You don’t know what you’re missing, Kyle.”
Mike Wells, Wild Child

“In many cases, people hold on so tightly to their past pains to avoid letting go of the “excuses” and the fear of having to be accountable for their life.”
Yvonne Pierre, The Day My Soul Cried: A Memoir

“For every person who closed the door in my face, thank you. For every person who told me I wasn't good enough, thank you. For every person who laughed and told me that I was wasting my time going to college, because I was going to fail, thank you. For every person who tried to break me, thank you. For every person who took my kindness for weakness, thank you. For every person who told me I was wasting time chasing my dreams because I would fail, thank you. It could of broke me. From the core of my heart, I thank you. I truly mean it, because if it weren't for each of you I wouldn't be who I am today. I wouldn't of spend hours and loss sleep studying. I wouldn't developed tough skin. You pushed me to think about what I "really" want out of life. You pushed me to master my craft. You helped me develop the drive, passion and determination. You pushed me to not wait for someone to believe in my vision, but to find a way to make things happen. I know you didn't "intend" to, but I thank you for teaching me to believe in myself! AND you taught me to TRUST in God and lean on my faith, not man. Thank You!”
